Denzil Porter – Bishop

Written by Nigel D. / 04.23.13

Bishop, Tupac’s adverse character in the coming of age film Juice, was who came to mind after Denzil Porter completed this track. With a deep New York straight gutter, street feel, “Bishop” tells the story of an unruly character who makes bad decisions after obtaining a new form of power. Denzil Porter raps, “No matter how he cheat death, she ain’t break up with him yet”. Though he gets away with so much, it’s only a matter of time before fate catches up. “Bishop” ends the same way it begins – with the exact thing that gave him this power. This is a rather common ending for those who fall victim to the streets. Denzil raps, “Last thing go through his mind, should’ve never tried nothing”.

Poppin Or Floppin: Denzil Porter – Kanye West

Written by Nigel D. / 09.28.11

Rapper Denzil Porter releases his newest single “Kanye West” off his upcoming project Home Made Music. “Kanye West”, produced by Mark XLnce, was inspired by the stereotypical New York City resident. New Yorkers: hardworking, tough and outspoken are often viewed to those outside of the city as just plain assholes. Denzil explains, “I feel like it’s just in our blood to do what we do and say what we say when we want to. Although we look at it as how we live, outsiders look at is as rude and obnoxious”.

Poppin Or Floppin: Denzil Porter ft. Connie Diamond – Haymaker

Written by Nigel D. / 07.12.11

“Haymaker”, literally meaning a powerful punch thrown to knock out an opponent, is a song Denzil and Connie used to show off their metaphorical skills when making punch line records. By throwing punch lines back to back while creating an undeniable flow of word play at the same time, “Haymaker” shows off the lyrical side of both artists.
