This Is Jim Jones Documentary: Chapter About Dipset Problems @ Def Jam

I think this played a big part in Jay-Z and Damon Dash breaking up.

Damon Dash’s Former Attorney Says, “Without Dame, There Would Be No Jay-Z”

Jay-Z & Damon Dash

Boom! Clark’s baby cousin Inga Marchand, p/k/a “Foxy Brown” made some noise and started a bidding war between Def Jam, Bad Boy, Elektra and a bunch of other labels. On the strength, they snatched her yung ass up for what would end up being the monster single “Ain’t No Nigga”. Damon played that single for me in his new offices, then located in the Wall Street area. Nigga was doing that goofy “Dame dance” with the mock dice roll even then. That record was a monster!!! Inga single handedly, in my opinion, saved Jay-Z’s career. Without her on that record, and Reasonable Doubt being Jay’s last shot, the world at large might have never heard of Shawn Carter. (Niggas don’t really put 2 and 2 together, realizing that Jay had been trying to get on since like 1987, ‘88, damn near close to 10 years before Reasonable Doubt!!!)

Reasonable Doubt dropped and sold gold out the gate. 500,000 units. Priority never expected that. Owed Dame $1,000,000.00 but couldn’t, wouldn’t pay up. Enter Irv Gotti, who snatched up the “Ain’t No Nigga” single for the “Nutty Professor” soundtrack. That led to Roc-a-fella eventually landing at Def Jam. The rest, as they say, is history. Let me set the record straight, here, and once and for all. Without Dame, there would be no Jay-Z. I know it. I said it. And I said it here.

Full Story

Damon Dash’s former attorney talks about the early days of Roc A Fella records, an interesting read. I think its outlandish to say Hov would of never blew up without Damon Dash. Jay-Z will say well make another Hov, which I think he is trying to do with Jim Jones.

Damon Dash Blames Financial Woes On Being Too Generous

Damon Dash

The rap mogul has been making headlines with his money struggles in recent months; he is facing foreclosure on his two properties in the trendy TriBeCa area of New York and reportedly owes $2 million (£1.4 million) in state taxes, among other debts. To make matters worse, his designer wife of four years, Rachel Roy, filed for divorce earlier this month.

“My mistake was watching everyone else’s careers and not watching mine.” Dash insists he spent too long planning Jones’ career breakthrough – and that has cost him dear. He adds, “After being able to settle my wife’s company, I was able to start doing other things. My first approach was the music business and getting with Jim Jones… I spent the last six months doing research, trying to figure out how to use all my resources to blow this out (make his album a hit).”

You got to be selfish to be successful, people won’t have your back like you got theirs. Looks like the wife dipped when the money got low(Put On Jay-Z – When The Money Goes).

Damon Dash’s Wife Files For Divorce

damon-dash

Roc-A-Fella Records and Rocawear co-founder Damon Dash has been slapped with divorce papers by wife Rachel Roy, the Daily News has learned. The stunning fashion designer piled onto Dash’s already sizable stack of lawsuits when she filed for divorce from her husband of four years this month in Manhattan Supreme Court.

The breakup is the latest legal mess for the has-been hip-hop titan, whose empire – which he once pegged at “about $50 million” in a New York magazine profile – has crumbled under massive debt, bad business deals and one suit after another.

Looks like he is going through some rough times but he will survive. I think the biggest blow was Jay-Z cutting him off.

“This is Jim Jones,” chronicles Jim Jones’ preparation for his new album while looking at his entire life. Damon Dash plays a prominent role in the documentary, showing Jim Jones right from wrong and trying his best to guide him to success. In one of the funnier moments of the film Damon Dash takes Jim Jones to an upscale art exhibition, where Jim looks completely out of place. Damon Dash Says Kanye Hate Jay-Z For Not Giving Him A Rocafella Chain

Video of Kanye getting his chain starts @ 4:00

“This n- [Kanye ] was like, ‘Wow. [Jay-Z] ain’t going to give me the chain,’” Dash alleges in December’s Complex magazine. “I had to take off my chain and give it to him, and I was heated. I had the real canary diamonds. That s- cost $40,000! I told Kanye, ‘Yo, you got to give that back when we get off this stage!’”

Dash contends that after Jay-Z violated the code of hip-hop chivalry, “Kanye hated Jay-Z.”

But a rep for Kanye tells us the story is “ridiculous and totally false.”

Source: NY Daily News

Anyone buying this story? Is this just a attempt to get some buzz? The fact that it took so long for him to mention it is suspect but even Kanye mad it clear his big brother wasn’t too big on him back in the days. I can’t blame Dame for being bitter about Kanye leaving him for Jay-Z, but talking about this stuff now is pointless.
