1. This is yo pussy
3. I’m cuming

via Cathryn Marie

5. “He’s My Friend“: Let’s be serious, male friends are huys that want to hit but are waiting for the right opportunity. They are waiting for a girl to get tired of their man and come running into their bed. Most of the time it never happens, especially if your nice. If there is no proof of a male being related to a girl he is put on the watch list. Once in a while a guy and girl can just be friends but I rather be skeptical of every guy.

The rest of the list is below, also feel free to leave your thoughts on the list and if you have said/heard these lies.

4.”I don’t give head“: It’s 2009 just about all girls are giving head, but a lot won’t admit to it. They don’t want to be looked at as a whore or have a reputation for giving brain. A chick will tell you she don’t get down like that and next time you see her she has a neck brace from all the head movements she been doing. So she will say this if she is just getting to know you, doesn’t like you that much or is just not in the mood. Some girls might just really not do it and will wait until marriage, but you can tell them they will need practice.

3.”‘I’m cuming“: It’s a lot harder to cum for a female than a male. So some sessions will have to get wrapped up early with some fake moans because if you not hitting it right it may never happen. Or you might just be getting some pity sex and she wants to end it quick, lol like guys care.

2.”I’m on my period“: Needs no explanation lol, YOU NOT GETTING ANY. You can try to get some dome and pray you don’t get hit with the 2,4 combo, OUCH!

1.”This is your pussy“: I can’t lie I heard this lie before and thought to myself GTFOH. It’s only yours when you in it, who knows how may guys get an easy pass for it. Even if your married the mail man might be hitting that. To be honest, females should say this is your pussy for the next few hours, night, or until a guy with better looks and more money come along. It can’t be mine cause my name ain’t on it and I don’t get a sign in sheet for everyone who enters it.

Bonus: “The Kid is Yours“(Noooooooooooooooooo)

Mac Milli..the Vanilli’s in here.. im a rascal dont get whopped,
I get brats who dont give top, (”meaning he gets girls who play hard to give it up”)
I get tassel, pass you wit a flow you could never put a brake on,
And I break on anything a nigga take on,
Feel the napalm from my trey arm, straight long, throw a nigga like im Akon,
Cuz I make cons.. Where the base gone, get the base blown,
Let the Pistons on that chopper come on cops im kamikaze drop a rock wit them Obamas,
Illie in the mind, really wit the nine, millie when I rhyme, silly anytime,
Fine, chilly gitty on da grind, Shitty on a dime, Penny on the line, (Afernee Hardaway)
Plentys in me, any guinea’s wit em bigger than a mini and remind im..
Illie and its all off G piece and a P..G walk by beep beep,
Wit a freak, skeet, Hawk Out, big feet on a jeep..
She caught by Weezy F, we be the best,
Truely to death prove me the rest,
Groupies confess, you be the ref, excuse me I left..Ha

RealTalkNY takes a look at the best and most memorable verses of 2008. If you disagree with the list make sure to comment and what verses are missing are what verses are over/underrated.

Also I want to say Lil Wayne’s verse on, “A Milli,” was pretty random but it was one of the most popular verses of the year so it has to be on the list.

They must got a death wish
they was on the road to the riches back in the day they got off on the exit
trill disrespect shit
whenever a nigga try to fuck up your investment
its hard to digest it
young niggas don’t want to get punched in they faces
so they keep the burner on, to catch a bunch of cases
these old niggas still think they livin’ in the ’80s
the shawties they knew since they were babies turn crazy
the bitches still holla at anybody
lookin’ like they have a couple dollars
fuck suck and swallow
ain’t nobody winnin’ but everybody can’t lose
dirts still there funeral home ain’t move
going in coming out gang affiliated
rather go back before being humiliated
a black cloud over the hood you can’t escape it
dust smokin’ niggas walk around in the matrix
loyalty is thin, tension is thick
look at a broke nigga’s face when you mention a brick
stick up kids come around, when they sense that you rich
cans of lizzle get lit, when you get hit with a fifth
niggas they used to hoop dreamin’ is now sellin’ the piff
and they still rattin’ but you can’t tell if you stiff
especially when the tek spit, fuck around get your head and your neck hit
lookin’ for a death wish, walk

You go see Weezy for the wordplay,
Jeezy for the birdplay,
Kanyeezy for diversity and me for controversy,
All my verses picture perfect and they meant to serve a purpose, you ain’t living what you kicking and you worthless,
Looking from the surface it may seem that I got reason to be nervous then observe my work and see that my adversity was worth it,
Verses autobiographical, absolutely classical,
last thing I’m worried ’bout is what another rapper do,
Ain’t nobody hot as me even if they rap they ass off blast off and have outstanding qualities,
Sell alotta records I respect and salute that,
but spitting real life on hot beats I’m the truth at
You kick it like me no exaggeration necessary,
living revolutionary, nothing less than legendary,
Gangsta shit hereditary, got it from my dad
flow colder than February with extraordinary swag

Who dat
Who dat said they gon’ beat Lil Wayne
My name ain’t bic, but I keep that flame boi
Who dat one
Dat do dat boy
Ya’ll knew dat
True dat swallow
And I be the shhhh
Now you got loose bowels
I don’t owe you like two vowels
But I’d like for you to pay me by the hour
Hahaha
And I’d rather be pushing flowers,
Than to be in the penn sharing showers
See Tony told us this world was ours
And the Bible told us every girl was sour
Don’t play in the garden and don’t smell her flower
Call me Mr. Carter or Mr. Lawn Mower
Boy I got so many girls like I’m Michael Lowry
Even Gwen Stefani said she couldn’t doubt me
Man, life, just ain’t life, without me
Hip hop just ain’t hip hop, without me
Young moola baby

I father, I Brooklyn Dodger them
I Jack, I Rob, I sin
Awww man, I’m Jackie Robinson
Except when I run base, I dodge the pen
Lucky me, lucky we, they didn’t get me
Now when I bring the Nets I’m the Black Branch Ricky
From Brooklyn corners, burnin branches of sticky
Spread love, Biggie, Brooklyn, hippie
I pity, the fool with jewels like Mr. T
With no history in my borough, they borrow
With no intentions of returnin, tomorrow
The sun don’t come out for many, like Annie
Half orphan, mama never had an abortion
Papa sort of did, still I managed to live
I go hard, I owe it all to the crib
Now please tell me, what the fuck’s harder than this!!!!

1. Nas – Black President

They forgot us on the block
Got us in the box
Solitary confinement
How violent are these cops?
They need an early retirement
How many rallies will I watch?
I ain’t got it in me to march
I got a semi to spark
The game’s in a drought

Public housing, projects
Cooking up in the Pyrex
My set, my click
Either getting money
Or running from homicide trial
That’s if they ain’t died yet

Trying to be rich
Still I’m pledging allegiance
A predicate felon, a ghetto leader
Lending my poetical genius
To whoever may need it
I bleed this from Queensbridge
Now living with my feet up
Never defeated
So a president’s needed
Y’know these colored folks and Negroes
Hate to see one of their own succeeding
America, surprised us
And let a black man guide us

Hmm missed out on Andre 3000 – Royal Flush & T.I. – Ain’t I remix.

While all the talk and coverage this week will be on Kanye, another rapper delivered an album this week too.
Theater of the Mind is clever, diverse, creative, and different. Hip-Hop really needs to begin assessing Ludacris’ contribution to the music and his dopeness on the mic.

Theater of the Mind is clever, diverse, creative, and different. Hip-Hop really needs to begin assessing Ludacris’ contribution to the music and his dopeness on the mic.

“If you can make me think and make me laugh that is the sign of someone truly talented.”

We often associate a comment like this with great comics, actors/actresses, and other entertainers. But in Hip-Hop how often do we solicit this desire in our rappers?

While plays on words are staples of great literary works and verbal performances, it has a particular place in Hip-Hop culture. We often playfully attempt to “diss,” “rag,” “snap,” “get at,” or “cut” on one another. Whether in person or on wax, an MC battle clearly exhibits this quality.

But while in our culture we overwhelmingly have an affinity for humor (Katt Williams, Mike Epps)—and even more so for humorous social commentary (Chris Rock, Richard Pryor, Aaron McGruder, Dave Chappelle)—we don’t like it so much in Hip-Hop. Is it our constant need to legitimize the toughness, roughness, and harshness that we often call “real“? Does it undermine the street-cred mandate, “ski mask way” mentality that is almost mandatory for all rappers?

If Ludacris had a long rap sheet, two jail bids, and was a self-professed former D-boy, would his position in Hip-Hop be different? Would he be a more respected MC?

Is Luda a respected MC?

All Hip-Hop artists have to fit into a box: neo-soul, commercial, gangsta, thug, back-packer…the list goes on. It’s to the point where we don’t know what to do with people who don’t fit into one of the boxes.

Or rather we do know what to do with it…we call it “WACK!” right away.

The videos, singles, and popular conception of Ludacris often put him in this category. With album titles like “Chicken-N-Beer” and “Incognegro;” and videos like “Rollout,” “Stand Up,” and from the new album “One More Drink,” we can see why many casual fans see his funny, joking side. This becomes the popular conception of Luda.

Images over-power music. Stereotypes over-power words.

No question Ludacris had partially created and marketed this image—and to his financial benefit: endorsements, several multi-platinum albums, a budding acting career, world-wide recognition. But it hasn’t produced respect for him as an MC. He’s not one of the first names you think of when “Top-5″ or “Hottest in the Game” list are made.

But Ludacris’ music is not a clown performing in a circle.

His music is an example of a trait we use to distinguish great rappers: lyricism- a fluidity with words; punchlines filled with analogies, metaphors, and symbolism; the ability to explain common ideas in an uncommon, yet appropriate way. His work is often the exercise of a masterful, skilled performer who displays the qualities we find in great artist: witty, charming, daring, skillful.

Theater of the Mind puts on display all these traits. The album shows an attempt by Ludacris to create a conceptual element to his work. The album’s diversity of content stands out compared to today’s standard, mainstream Rap releases (underground artists like Devin the Dude can be an example of this refreshing approach as well). There’s drunken hook-ups with women, boasts of rap superiority, “day-in-the-life” stories, lyrical expositions on what is an “MC”, and ode’s to Hip-Hop. It is a diversity steeped in a variety of subject matter, a variety of styles, and a variety in the supporting cast (ranging from T-Pain, to Chris Rock, to Spike Lee).

This is the album’s strength: it takes us into the “mind” of Hip-Hop; a wide spectrum of the culture is shown threw participants, topics, and music. In a traditional Hip-Hop manner songs like “Undisputed,” “Everybody Hates Chris,” “Last of a Dying Breed,” and “Do the Right Thing” affirm Luda’s prowess on the mic: punchlines, wit, and creativity are as present as they have ever been in his rhymes.

Indeed Ludacris challenges himself conceptually while still staying true to the daring quality that has made him who he is. But this is no overnight occurrence. A closer look and listen to his last album, Release Therapy, shows similar characteristics and maturity. It was more than the hit “Runaway Love” (featuring Mary J. Blige); it was also about growing up a screw-up (”Grew Up a Screw Up” featuring Jeezy), remembering brothers in the pen (”Do Your Time” featuring Murder C, Beanie Siegal, and Pimp C), going to war with god, (”War with God”), and examining your “Freedom to Preach.”

His body of work has proven Ludacris to be Top 5 in the game today.

The challenge is getting people to not just see this:

But to also see this:

If Hip-Hop wasn’t about marketing, advertising, budgets, labels, videos, spins, singles, radio, TV, magazines, Internet, sales, and record exec’s…this would be the Top 5.

You ever watch Rap City lately and say “How the hell they get a deal?” Or get a MySpace friend request from a “rapper,” and this person should NEVER be allowed to call themselves a rapper?

These are the things that make you appreciate great MC’s. It’s a talent; some people got it, some people don’t. The problem is that the really good rappers don’t always blow up. They don’t always become famous.

So this list goes out to the dopest, the illest, the hottest, the sickest, the nicest. This is for the best MC’s who never became famous (to the world at least).

It’s tricky since it’s not like rappers “retire” (even if they announce that they do); so you never really know when some-one’s career has ended and their time to achieve mainstream success is over.

There are a lot of underrated rappers who may lack mainstream success or album sales but do tons of shows, have critical acclaim, and have mad fans worldwide. So people and groups like The Roots, Talib, Mos, Common are out.

So qualifications for this list is crazy skills, under-recognized, and who’s time to break through has probably pasted…but still deserve props. Here we go…

Bonus (Because a Top 5 is NEVER enough)- Little Brother

For all ya’ll who think Southern Hip-Hop is what you see now, you need to be schooled. But more importantly, you need to be put on to Little Brother. Socially conscious, hella lyrical, super-fly production, Little Brother had all the ingredients for a Hip-Hop supergroup.

Label woes and internal-conflict (former member and well-known producer 9th Wonder bounced last year) has pushed the group out of the public eye. But don’t sleep, these cats are probably one of the most underrated groups of ever.

Do Ya Research

Little Brother My Space

5. Big L

L was a one of the greatest to ever bless the mic. Not only did he set the standard for punchlines, he combined it with tremendous lyricism. The original “Harlem’s Finest,” L always left you with a Hip-Hop Quotable. Before his untimely death in 1999, there was talk bout Jay wanting to sign him to the ROC. Regardless L always represented, is truly a Hip-Hop great.

“Yo, fuck all the glamours and glitz, I plan to get rich
I’m from New York and never was a fan of the Knicks
And I’m all about expandin my chips
You mad cause I was in the van with your bitch
with both hands on her tits
Corleone hold the throne, that you know in your heart
I got style, plus the way that I be flowin is sharp
A while back I used to hustle, sellin blow in the park
Countin G stacks and rockin ice that glow in the dark
Forever – hottie huntin, trigger temper I’m quick to body somethin
You lookin at me like I’m probably frontin
I fuck around and throw, three in your chest and flee to my rest
I’m, older and smarter this is me at my best
I stopped hangin around y’all, cause niggaz like you
be prayin on my downfall, hopin I flop
Hopin I stop, you probably even hope I get locked
or be on the street corner with a pipe, smokin the rock
I got more riches than you, fuck more bitches than you
Only thing I haven’t got is more, stitches than you
Fuckin punk, you ain’t a Leader what? Nobody Followed you
You was never shit, your mother shoulda swallowed you”

Big L- “98 Freestyle”

4. Cormega

Nas has a track record of getting talented understudies, then droppin them off the face of the planet: Nature, Nashawn, Lake, Quan, etc. But by FAR, Cormega was the nicest outta all them.

He dropped jewels on guest appearances on It Was Written and The Firm. But it was the material that finally got released through the street (the albums Legal Hustle and The Testament gained decent underground success), that help Mega’s talent come through to a larger audience.

“I’m from the rarest breed of people who rep the street and spit poetically
never sleep, rest assured Mega is dope in his pure form
the dealer/MC keepin it real is my protocol
fall back I got you open off the style I was workin on it
the beat is lifeless, ’till I put my verses on it
I reminisce confinement as I read a kite
from my people with secret indictment freedom and triumph
contemplating putting sprees on the tires
dominating this beat with my rhyming as if you need a reminder
I spit that drug dealer shit you might have seen on The Wire
what other lyricist is known for giving people cosignment
I’m eager to find my equal wit rhyming, I rock Iceberg jeans with the Nikes
an extremist with rhymin deep as Poseidon
breedin’ in violence now I live in a peaceful environment
a secret asylum from the streets where people be wilding
some blind with fury from seeing me shining
like a phoenix arising from the depths showin the reaper defiance”

Cormega-”A Beautiful Mind”

3. Jean Grae

Take a good look at Ms. Grae. Matter a fact, TAKE ANOTHER look.

You need to remember what she looks like because she is quite possibly the GREATEST female MC of all time (forget about the illest MC’s you probably never heard of).

Born in South Africa, bred in Brooklyn, Jean Grae been a monster on the underground circuit for a minute.

Jean is kinda the exception to this list for the fact that there is still time for her to breakthrough. But after over a decade of being the best female MC on the planet, it’s time give Ms. Grae some recognition.

Do the research!!!

“This is for Beatrice Bertha Benjamin who gave birth to
ALTHLONE, Mitchells Plain, Swazi girls I’m reppin for thee
Mannesburg, Guguletu where you’d just be blessed to get thru
For beauty shinin thru like the sun at the highest noon
From the top of the cable car at Table Mountain; I am you
Girls with the skyest blue of eyes and the darkest skin
For Cape Colored allied for realizing we’re African
For all my cousins back home, the strength of mommy’s backbone
The length of which she went for raising, sacrificing her own
The pain of not reflecting the range of our complexions
For rubber pellet scars on Auntie Elna’s back I march
Fist raised caramel shinin in all our glory
For Mauritius, St, Helena; my blood is a million stories
For surviving thru every lie they put into us now
The world is yours and I swear I will stand focused”
Black girls, raise up your hands; the world should clap for us”

Jean Grae- “Black Girl Pain”

2. Canibus

Iight, so yeah L gave him the Ether (”Ask Canibus he ain’t understandin this/cause 99% of fans don’t exist” LL-The Ripper Strikes Back).

But Canibus was one of the most intricate MC’s ever. He was droppin 100 bars and more before anybody else was doing it.

I’ll let the lyrics speak for themselves:

“At a thousand degree Celsius I make MC’s melt
Fuck my record label I appear courtesy of myself
Let me explain how I maintain thresholds to pain
I walk across the Sun barefoot lookin for shade
I rearrange your rib cage like a twelve gage at close range
and change the position of your brain
My hard raps penetrate through your hardhats and all that
nigga, get ya wig peeled back
I scalp you like the Indians on horseback
Running Bull will hit you harder than running back
Stunning man with brave and cunning rap
Swiftly running laps around 48 tracks
Like uncut crack you fiends keep coming back
Heads is flippin like acrobats on gym mats
From wax to analog tapes to digital DAT’s
It’s critical black, that Canibus is ill like that
In fact perhaps you should quit rap, instead of always
tryin to diss back, cause niggaz keep tellin you that your shit’s wack
I rip raps, hardcore raps rushin you to the floor mat
Put you in the figure four, break your thorax
Jump off the top turnbuckle and land on your back
til I hear it snap or crackle, the ref says chill black
You get clapped bringin the wrong raps to combat
Like bringin a paint gun to a shoot out with real gats
Y’all niggaz is wack, rappin over microphone feedback
My intelligence begins where yours peaks at
From Fox Boogie in the see-through brassiere, to Nasty Nas here
My nigga Nature’ll explain it further if it’s not clear”

1. AZ

Straight up, AZ might be the most underrated rapper of all-time. This man never gets the props he deserve.

He got put on by being the only guest appearance on one of the greatest rap albums ever, Nas’ Illmatic; then dropped arguably most memorable verse on the entire album (his verse on “Life A Bitch” is truly a classic).

AZ is the embodiment of vintage, classic 90’s Hip-Hop: dope beats, smooth delivery, socially conscious content, raw street narrative, stories that poignantly capture a particular experience in a particular time period. But what adds to his greatness, is that over time he getting better. Do or Die (1995) is just as hard as Undeniable (2008).

Unfortunately, he could never catch on with the mainstream (hence he’s on this list). But the lyrical skill possess by Sosa is among the best ALL TIME. Check the catalog, and pay homage to the Visualiza.

“we was already loyal to people’s minds and mulianis
now we more fucked up with a mayor named Guliani
you can try to bomb me
analyze but can’t define me
my mind’s divine heavily entwined with Ghandi’s
far from feeble, I leave your nostrils hard to breathe through
cause my cerebrals are more of a higher plane
than the Hebrews
my mic devotion brings out my deepest emotions
and since my mama, I been fucking with marijuana
strictly menace wear, macking off a Guinness beer
so where it all begins is here
so how can I be weak?

Check below for the remaining 4 things that need to be retired from Hip Hop. If you feel I’m missing something or disagree, leave a comment.

4. Auto-Tune Effect – T-Pain obviously didn’t create the auto-tune effect but he made it extremely popular with hit after hit. He became highly sought after for hooks for every rapper out. But some weren’t willing to pay 85k and others decided to use the effect themselves. T-Pain may be mad about people swagger jacking but he cant complain since he didn’t invent the effect. The list of rappers now using the technique continues to grow from Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, 50 Cent, Lil Kim, LL Cool J, random youtuber, Yung Berg, and Lil Wayne. It has become to common and often annoying, with some people forcing it. It is time to give this effect a loooong break.

3. Shouting Out Name Brands – Rappers are known for showing off and bragging about what expensive items they have in their closet. Soulja Boy got started talking about, “Bathing Apes,” & now has moved on to a, “Gucci bandanna.” Blood Raw prefers a, “Louie Bag,” The Pack rocks, “Vans,” & Beyonce named a whole heap of brands to Upgrade You. I’m not hating on people being able to buy the finer things in life, it just makes little sense to promote brands that won’t even claim you. The Pack had problems with making a video for, “Vans,” due to the brand not cosigning them. After years of boasting about popping bottles of Cristal, Jay-Z ended up boycotting them after they made racist remarks. So if your promoting a brand in a song make sure its yours or your at least being compensated for it. The worse thing to do is promote a brand that doesn’t even want you owning their merchandise.

2. The Term, “Real Hip Hop” – It seems, “Real Hip Hop,” is in the eyes of the beholder. If a person doesn’t like a particular style of rap they may feel the need to say it is not, “Real Hip Hop.” Real is defined as, “reflecting the essential or genuine character of something.” When it comes to Hip Hop it comes down to rapping over a beat, that simple. Doesn’t matter if the lyrics or beat are horrible it is still Hip Hop. Instead of saying it is not, “Real Hip Hop,” it would be appropriate to say it is not ,”Quality Hip Hop.”

1. CDs – In the new digital age every album is available for download at least a week before the physical CD drops. Most people don’t even use CD players anymore, to the point people would look down on you for having one on the train lol. MP3 players are superior to CDs in terms of capacity and portability, there is no competition. As a result CD sales are on a sharp drop, Warner Music Group has created plans to improve sales but I doubt they will work. Unless a CD has bonus footage on it you are basically just paying for the cd booklet. When I do purchase a CD I just rip it to my computer and on to my mp3 player. It is time to give up on CDs and keep everything digital(unless you got DVD footage along with it).

Notable Mentions:
Remixes with the same people over and over.
Rappers throwing jabs in hopes of popularity.
Radio stations playing favorites and trying to force people to like songs.
Hip Hop fans too concerned with sales instead of quality.

The last post for Tha Carter III week lol. I list the top 5 songs on the album in my opinion, let me know if you agree or disagree.

5. Nothin On Me – The song may actually better if Lil Wayne’s verse was taken out. Fabolous & Juelz killed their verses and Lil Wayne provided a hot chorus.

Don’t be murdered over your song before you ad-lib it
I pop up like Xzibit, forgiven I’m at your crevace
Not to put no fuckin fish’ tanks in your Civics (no)
Fuck getting your ride pimped, you’ll get hog tied, wimp
Have you in the trunk curled up like fried shimp (ah hah hah)
It’s been a good year maybe I should ride a blimp
Cause your boy just stay above the game
They tryin’ to tag ‘em, spray a brother frame
But your shots can’t reach me, I’m way above your aim

-Fabolous

4. Mr.Carter - This is the highly anticipated track with Jay-Z. The sample and beat go together perfectly. Jay-Z delivers a hot verse and Lil Wayne is a little random but does his thing.

Far from average, Above status-
Quo, Flow, So, Pro
I know
I rise slow
And when I pass
They say “what up, killer man?” Stop bringing up my past!
And next time you mention Pac, Biggie,
And Jay-Z
Don’t forget Weezy
Baby!

3. Dr.Carter – Lil Wayne delivers a very creative track as he acts as a doctor for Hip Hop. Each verse is dedicated to a different aspect, style, respect & swagger. This kind of track reminds me of something Nas would do and it shows diversity from Lil Wayne.

His Blood Starting To Flow.
His Lungs Starting To Grow.
This One Starting To Show.
Strong Signs Of Life.
Wheres The Stiches Heres The Knife.
Smack His Face His Eyes Open I Reply What A Night.
Welcome Back Hip Hop I Saved Your Life.

2. Shoot Me Down- Fire beat with a rock influence and sample. Lil Wayne delivers hot metaphors like, “I sweat money and the bank is my shower.”

i aint kind hot i’m sauna
i sweat money and the bank is my shower
haha and that pistol is my towel
ha so stop sweatin me coward
and i would die for ours ride for ours supply the flowers
this is history in the making now shut the f**k up and let me make it

1. Let The Beat Build – Cant help but blast this track, “Now that’s how you let the beat build Bitch!” Classic random lines by Lil Wayne but the shit sounds hot. The beat is crazy, Kanye West did his thing. Lil Wayne changing his flow made the song even hotter.

And yeah, we sell em’, i know u smell em’
So if u want it, You could just yell it
Be in the morning at your telly
Whole keys go for twenty, half a key go for eleven, after me there will be nothing
I am Legend and I Will Smith
Now that’s how you let the beat build, bitch

RealTalkNY takes a look at Hip Hop’s biggest break ups. It seems all good things come to an end, and relationships are put the test when success is achieved. So this trend of course is prominent in the world of Hip Hop. Hopefully some of the people listed can come to a reconciliation and get back to making great music.

*Feel free to weigh-in with some notable breakups.

5.)

Jay-Z and Dame Dash: Death of a dynasty. Even after three years, I’m still in shock over this one.
RealTalkNY: Damn these two built a dynasty and made millions together. Who would of seen this coming, they was like Batman and Robin. But as time goes on egos collide and people change.

4.)

Pete Rock & CL Smooth: One of the first producer/emcee combo groups of its time. Creative differences in the studio ultimately contributed to the breakup.
RealTalkNY: They could of made some classic hits if they could of stayed together.

3.)

Fugees: The group failed to reform after the success of Lauryn’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. And now in 2007, it looks like the critically acclaimed group might never get back together.
RealTalkNY: Success tore this group apart. Lauryn Hill lost it after her debut album and the group never recovered. To this day they still can’t get it together.

2.)

NWA: Group turmoil and money mishandling at Ruthless Records led to the demise of the controversial group.
RealTalkNY: Too many egos in one group, it was just a matter of time until they hated each other.

1.)

A Tribe Called Quest: A Tribe Called Quest = Real Hip-Hop. After performing on this years VH1 Hip-Hop Honors, we’re left to wonder what would’ve been if these creative minds would have stayed together.
