West spoke out against the idea of President Obama sworn in to office with his hands on Martin Luther King Jr.’s bible. “When I got the news that my dear brother Barack Obama, President Obama, was going to put his precious hand on Martin Luther King Jr.’s bible I got upset. And I got upset because, you don’t play with Martin Luther King Jr. and you don’t play with his people. By his people what I mean is people in good conscience, fundamentally committed to piece and truth and justice.”

Thoughts on what Cornel West had to say?

Lupe Fiasco performed an anti-war song for thirty minutes and made it clear he didn’t vote for Barack Obama during an event that was suppose to celebrate his re-election. Booking Lupe for this is like booking Chief Keef for an anti-gun rally.

Lupe Fiasco performed at this private event, and as you may have read, he left the stage earlier than we had planned. But Lupe Fiasco was not “kicked off stage” for an “anti-Obama rant.” We are staunch supporters of free speech, and free political speech. This was not about his opinions. Instead, after a bizarrely repetitive, jarring performance that left the crowd vocally dissatisfied, organizers decided to move on to the next act.
