“It’s ridiculous, if we don’t embrace what is new, then how do we progress? I’ve never actually experienced anything like that before. It’s 2008, what is that about?”

“I listen to all types of music and that’s what should happen, that’s what the world should be about, mixing culture. There’s only good music and bad music.”

“I think that hip-hop is music and an art form, it’s poetry and it should be accepted and respected like any other art form. It’s just coming from a different perspective.” – Jay-Z

Is this a case of just adding the wrong element? What would happen if the Fall Out Boys were set to headline Summer Jam? I think there would be less controversy if he wasn’t the headliner but I’m sure he will add a rock feeling to his performance.

Racist Ads Against Barack Obama Hit The Airwaves

In South Dakota, a TV station briefly aired an ad that was edited to show Obama saying, “we are no longer a Christian nation, we are also a Muslim nation.” It omitted his saying, in the same speech, that the United States is not solely a Christian nation.

The ad, which included a photo of Obama wearing a turban as part of a traditional outfit given to him in Africa, concluded with a man saying: “It’s time for people of faith to stand against Barack Hussein Obama.” A group called the Coalition Against Anti-Christian Rhetoric paid for the ad, which stations quickly dropped after the Obama campaign complained.

The Texas Republican Party recently cut ties with a vendor whose political buttons at a party convention included one saying: “If Obama is president … will we still call it The White House?”

Lil Mama Blames Lack Of Promotion For Poor Sales

lilmama

“My fan base is out of this world and the youth really look up to me and I know for a fact my album wasn’t promoted correctly because people would come up to me like, ‘Oh your album is out?’ Or, ‘This is the second one?’” She said. “It’s really disturbing to know that I signed with a company that didn’t promote my record properly. Highly disturbing.” – Lil Mama

All About the Beat: Why Hip-Hop Can’t Save Black America

“[M]any hold on to the idea that hip-hop is ever on the verge of lifting black America up in a political revolution,” McWhorter announces, one that will “lift poor blacks out of ghettos and create a new day.” His constant assertions about hip-hop’s true nature purport to prove why this cannot happen. It is “about attitude and just that,” “in its very essence, angry,” “all about that upturned middle finger,” “about being oppositional regardless of the outcome,” “all about the ‘I’ doing the rapping” and “about quick thrills and settling scores, rather than reasoning, discovering, and building.”

Two Brothers Arrested For The Murder Of A T.I. Associate

“T.I. and his group were in the VIP area,” Gormly said. “The suspects wanted to get in the VIP area and weren’t allowed to.” At one point, he said, one of the brothers was struck in the head with a bottle. Anger also flared when some of those in the rapper’s entourage threw money from the stage.

When Harris and his entourage left in two vans, they were followed by two SUVs. It wasn’t long before gunfire was exchanged from the moving vehicles on Seymour near I-75, killing Johnson and wounding the others. T.I. was slightly injured by flying glass.
