I wasn’t even impressed by any of Alica Key’s singles but she has managed to sell 2.7 million records as of this week(Beyonce is at 3 mil, Akon 2.8). R&B has taken over with Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown, & Keyshia Cole going platinum(Rihanna almost there). Some good R&B artist however are struggling, like The Dream(150k), Trey Songz(220), and Mario(168k).
As far as rap goes, Jigga is almost platinum, Kanye is almost 2x plat, 50 Cent is at 1.2 mil, Soulja Boy has sold over 700k, Common went gold, Timbaland is plat, Plies is over 400k, Lupe & Bow Wow & Omarion are over 250k.
A rap artists who named his latest album “Respect the Shooter” was shot in the head as he sat in a parked car in Brooklyn, police sources said Wednesday.
Uncle Murda, whose real name is Leonard Grant, suffered a graze wound in the 10:30 p.m. shooting Tuesday on Linden Blvd. in East New York, cops said. Grant, 27, was not seriously injured, sources said.

Lucky for him, he wasn’t seriously injured and I doubt he respects who shot at him. But seriously , a bullet grazing your head means you were a few inches from death.

Seeking to further curb criminal activities, Compton has asked a judge to ban individuals identified as members of the Mob Piru street gang — including rap mogul Marion “Suge” Knight — from congregating in a northeast neighborhood.
“This is crazy,” said Knight, co-founder of Death Row Records. “I’m a 42-year-old businessman, not a gang member. I don’t even live in Compton anymore . . . . This injunction names people who are already in jail — and at least one guy who is long dead.”
Would banning some gang members from the hood make a difference? I see how people complain about police harassment, but they over look how black on black violence is running rampant.
