I never saw any of his tour de France wins coverage on here. This isn’t a sports site, but if u can cover the man’s downfall, you can cover his rise to fame. No one knew he was doping back then, everyone loved his story.
Lance Armstrong won about 7 Tour De France titles. Founded a cancer organization and I know countless people who wore his LiveStrong wristbands. Yet I could count on my finger how many people actually tuned in to watch him rise to greatness and win any of these titles, while fighting off cancer.
Now that he’s been labeled a cheater and drug user, everybody is all of a sudden a cycling fan and tuned in to watch him fall from grace. I saw people putting up pictures and statuses in anticipation of this as if it was a good thing, yet no one was this excited when he was a great man. Human nature, they only care when you’re falling, not when you’re climbing or at the top. Sad.
@Nana, I am going to have to disagree with you. To start, I say Nigel deserves some defense on this particular issue in that, this is a transcendent story. Posting a story of this magnitude has little or nothing to do with the content. This is a Hip Hop site in general; however, relevant topics go beyond Hip Hop and have always appear here. You may disagree with the content or take issues with his position but there is no way you can criticize him for sharing relevant information.
Beyond that, I disagree with your assessment of Lance. Your own words betray your position: How could it be that “they only care when you’re falling” when, in fact, the entire reason he was so successful was because people supported him. Those organizations, those tour wins were all supported by the same people who he lied to OUTRIGHT. In the name of anyone who suffered from cancer, in the name of anyone who felt they had the ability to over come, Lance took up the mantle that he could do it and so could you. But in reality, all that rhetoric that he spewed over the years about overcoming and being the best was all total bullshit. He didn’t even believe those words himself, as evidenced by his cheating. And now you’d criticize those of us who would be disgusted? Why?
Could he have been any greedier? 7 championships? All the while reaping the benefit of endorsements and charities, claiming to be a saint and suing anyone who even CONSIDERED outing his secret? Bullshit. Lance deserves every ounce of the hate he gets over this. Point. Blank. Period.
