Rumors of, Trinidad James, signing with Def Jam for a deal worth two million started yesterday. While I was doubtful at first, a few inside sources have said it is true. It is not uncommon for an artist to be signed off of one hot single, just look at Kreayshawn. Do you think this would be a good move for Def Jam? What message would this to send to rappers that have been trying to get signed for years?

Dude is hot right now, somebody was going to sign him and def jam wanted to cash in first. Having skills on the mic does not always translate into crossover hits. Freddie Gibbs is proof of that. Dont get me wrong FG seem like a real nigga and he got flow but his songs are not on hit, Freddie Gibbs signed a deal twice in the past couple years and dont even have a single out and is once again a free agent after recently leaving CTE (Jeezy’s Label). T James got that formula on how to keep it street but still make music that can climb charts. The fact that he is brand new to the game and already gettin so much play is proof of that.

First off, you niggas keep bringing up Freddie Gibbs need to do the reasearch. For one Freddie was already in a contract with CTE and only recently left the label. Second, labels dont sign artist just because they can rap you have to have a buzz. Do you know how long Freddie Gibbs has been in the game. The dude has had two record deals and has not dropped anything besides a few mixtapes. Labels want to sign someone with a BIG BUZZ because that translates into album sales. Music business is only 10 percent talent the other 90 percent is how you market yourself as a product. Freddie got the streets on lock but he has not figured out a way to turn that into a must have product for these big labels.
