   I think you missed what he was trying to get at…it wasn’t about these types of efforts that he was reffering to…it was more so that most of their music is devoid of these types of efforts…I can’t remember a time that a Beyonce song made me reflect on the state of humanity, black struggle, violence, or any social issue…it’s always pop and nothing more. Jay barely touches on those issues as well.

   Belafonte’s point is that these acts are good but the people who need to be aware of the these important things rarely ever see these behind the scenes sort of initiatives, but rather are more exposed to their music every single day and that platform is rarely ever used to communicate like those artists of past…and I’m sure he’s not saying this should be a standard, but touching on important matters other than love once in a while will go a long way in righting the mindsets of mainstream America.
