“Hip-hop celebrates those who wanna make a killing instead of a living. I like those guys, but they make me laugh sometimes because I don’t get who they’re here for, other than themselves.” – Chuck D. speaking on “The Throne”
via NME
Chuck D. is looking for a more balance Hip Hop and seems to think Jay-Z and Kanye West did too much flossing on, “Watch The Throne.” Check out his tweets about this below.
Do you consider, “The Throne,” to be selfish?

Chuck d should make a hit record and give all the money he make off of it to the poor.. Or go perform all his hits and give the show money to the poor… But will he mmmmmm nope !!
hahahahahahahahahahahhahahaahahahhahahaha
Everybody seems to have a problem with another man and what he’s doing, mind your own business or if you don’t like it, do something to affect change! If Jay Z wanna make a billion dollars for himself then that’s his business, why everybody gotta act like they owe somebody something when they make it. Chuck D should do something and give the money away then #simple
WTT was AOTY last year doe
Section .80
Great song with a great message. Don’t’ misconstrue this as ‘hatin”, it’s just a message that needed to be said. Hip hop needs more balance. Period.
you just knew kanye and jay-z fan boys will hate on chuck d for this, better know of them have heard the song the message, of course you can’t have an opinion in hip-hop now it;s hating if you dnt like something or somebody.
It must be awkward for Jay-Z & Kanye to know all their peers have such strong (a lot of times negative) opinions about their music. Like of they walk into an event and they run into a Chuck D or a Harry Belafonte, how does that conversation even go down?
It doesn’t go down, because it’s lonely at the top and Chuck D ain’t no where to be found there. It’s a choice Jay-Z & Kanye made to be successful and rich. At this point they don’t need these people, and it seems like these people with the open opinions about them want to feel needed, when they’re not! My problem is Chuck D etc. thinks they’re speaking for people like us and I really don’t feel the way he feels! He feels like they’re only here for themselves? Jay-Z is eating, and he feeding his wife and kid just like everybody else…WHO ELSE DOESN HE NEED TO BE HERE FOR???
brother is 100 percent right….TEACH CHUCK….
i like it, if you claim king or queen what difference does it matter if we aint all eating

Who are Jay-Z and Kanye West suppose to be working for if not “themselves”?! Everyone should worry about themselves and what they do.
The level of which Jay-Z gets his dick rode is incredible. LMAO
I don’t like the system either. You give your opinion and people automatically call you a hater when they don’t even know the meaning of the word hate. Then you have other people who think just because Jay and Kanye make more money than the next rapper they are better and don’t have to defend their “throne”. “The Throne” is kind of false representation of Jay and Kanye considering there are other rappers out there who can out rap them lyrically. But since they have more money, fame, and acclaim that is dismissed as hating.
@InFamous If Chuck D said he loved WTT would you still consider him to be dick riding Jay-Z or is he a dick rider only because he doesn’t have a positive opinion on the album? Also if everyone only worried about themselves then none of us would be commenting on the post.
wtt album > classic. nuff said.
TR227,
It wasn’t about Chuck D per se, it’s more for the attention he [Jay-Z] receives in general.
…Com·pre·hen·sion. LOL
@InFamous Can you tell me the language of origin and can you use it in a sentence please? LOL
if u dont wanna look like a hater dont use the names of two of the most popular.
at the same time if u dont use their names no one will hear what your trying to say so its a 2way street.
sorta like when jayz said “magazines put me on they cover cuz i earn for them, soon as i sell to much watch them turn on him cuz that seems to be the thing that will earn for them”
just by his fame alone his name has to be mentioned in order to get ppl to listen. i’m ok with that, i just feel bad for jayz knowing that he does good, but ppl have to use him or his name just to get a message across. wtt also had alot of black power shit in it too, dont act like it was all flossing and no inward reflection at all, maybe like 75/25
“cant leave rap alone the game needs me”
I agree with u 100%
Jay-z Jay-z Jay-z… ya’ll get front page article when ya’ll speak that mans name
why everybody so concerened with Hov money lately?? niggas who never reached his level of success can sure tell him what to do with his music and money smh
I hate when people say it is better rappers out there where r they? if you are the best you make it through anything to the top right if u the best u succeed so why no other rappers who claim to be the best never make it???
ShoutOut County of Kings and Indiana85 tho
Jay Z ain’t my daddy. I make my own way and I’m happy he’s making REAL moves Chuck. Mitt Romney wants to be president and he shipped out millions of jobs at Bain. Speak on that Chuck because JayZ is small shit compared to that.
@Hiphop@gmail.com Actually you’re already wrong, he did a charity concert just this year to fix an area called “Skid Row” in L.A., which is known for being a crime & drug problem area. So yes he’s already done more than Jay-Z & Kanye. Watch the Throne was a horrible album that was only about one thing and that’s money and the message was just get as much as you can for yourself. Hip hop needs someone like Chuck D to step in and point out these social injustices to a mass population so they become educated, but with Jay-Z & Kanye just saying go out & make as much as you can while saying fuck everyone else that just sets everyone back.
Chuck D is talking out of his ass. Most of the damn records on that album are inspirational or conscious records. Ppl don’t support those type of records, that’s why they weren’t singles. Made In America is obviously a better song than Niggas In Paris…but ppl won’t buy that single or the album for it. That’s society’s issue. This pretty much goes for all music artist, they all make meaningful records but no one cares. Chuck D just chose the two biggest names he could think of so he could make headlines.
NY shut up dude. WTT is a dope album. Stop being worried about a rapper who don’t know you.
Actually if you “listened” to WTT (not just the beats, dope though they were) they did broach a ton societal subjects from a different angle. They had some truly uplifting inspirational messaging that underscored that we all can get, be and do more. In my opinion Murder-To-Excellence did it best. But because they are putting out a product with corporate to get sales and spins they did have to lace a lot of with materialism to compete in the market. That is what Chuck D is critiquing: the market forces that pressures artist to alter and dilute there messaging for the sake of profit. It is the struggle all artists, even all people, face: “How can I maintain integrity, creativity while make a living?” I commend Chuck for not being bound by corporate greed. I commend Jay and ‘Ye for finding a pathway through it.
