Chief Keef is a “Bomb”, he represents the senseless savagery that white people see when the news speaks of Chicago violence. A Bomb has no responsibility or blame, it does what it was created to do; DESTROY! Notice, no one is talking about the real culprits, the Bomb maker or the pilot who is deploying this deadly force (Labels, Radio Stations). Its easier to blame the bomb. Bombs are not chosen for their individual talents, they are tools used for collateral damage.
To think of the persona of Chief Keef as a person would be the first mistake, he will more then likely come and go without us knowing much of anything about his personal pains, struggles, great loves and ambitions beyond rap. He is a spokesman for the Prison Industrial Complex. Every corporation is expected to grow at least 4% each quarter, many prisons are privately owned with stock being traded on the open market. If these corporations were to do commercials, jingles and promotions who would they hire? You got it, most of the main stream rappers we salivate over like Rick Ross the former correctional officer turned Drug Lord Boss rapper. Waka Flocka Flame gang bang “GO HARD IN THE PAINT” and Chief Keef the newest lottery pick in the “Get paid to destroy young minds, like we destroyed yours” Sweepstakes.
Lets stop giving our intellectual power resources and admiration to destructive forces while ignoring and starving out the good that is being done, sung and rapped about by artist like Killer Mike, Lupe Fiasco, RhymeFest, Dead Prez, Brother ALI, Maimouna Yusef, Invincible, Jean Grey, Mikkey Halsted etc.

Thoughts on what Rhymefest had to say?

cosign all that, if you never had the chance to, it really is time to give a listen to all the artists he mentioned down the article…
peace
Before people bash Rhymefest , first think about what he is saying. Hip Hop every year gets dumbed down more, part of that is the new artist with no talent and of course the labels/ media. There was a point in Hip Hop that you had to have lyrics in order to be apart of it.
Truth
100% truth. Chief Keef is not an artist, not a musician, and not someone any label should be promoting as such.
It’s just music….. I grew up listening to NWA, Scarface, Geto Boys. The first cassette I ever purchased was AmeriKKKas most wanted. I’ve never committed a crime or sold drugs. I think people are over emphasizing the effect that music has on people. Young black males were selling drugs when Rick Ross was still a corrections officer. Dudes were getting killed over over 8 Ball jackets in the Chi when Chief Kief was still breast feeding. It’s just entertainment–nothing more.
I don’t believe it is that simple. We can say its just music but how many trends are set by entertainment? Musicians, Athletes and Actors are the most influential personas in the entire world. The people who feel they can relate to those personas attempt to embody them and that’s where the danger is. Sure, if Kayne West puts on a pair of dumb white glasses and everyone every does it, it is harmless; however, we know it doesn’t stop there.
The socio-economic trend that Fest is referring to isn’t just in music and hip hop though. Past generations have had their own influences whether it was the original Chronic that made smoking weed main stream for everyone or Scarface that made you feel like it was cool to live it up as long as you went out like a G. You would think people’d smarten up by this point but the problem is they target the youth because they do not have the ability to reason and understand things the way we do. And once everyone is in jail or dead its too late to grow and mature and come to understandings.
Thats Real Talk New York!!
He made his point well, I wonder what it is that makes these youngers want to perpetuate this violent lifestyle rather than make a change for the better! It gets worse every year a real slippey slope!
Shout outs from London UK,
@ Yupp bullshit sells you have Rick Ross who use to lock up and now his past is pushed under the carpet and everybody wants a feature from him, I’m mad at rappers I use to respect co-signing him mostly notably Nas. Rick Ross stole somebodies lift and ran with it he don’t know about no struggles he was locking niggas up at night time and know he raps about pushing coke ? Fraud the hip-hop tacks a big l for that.
Complete Bullshit!! i mean the message is good.. but its like a pastor, who are u really reaching if u preachin 2 the choir every sunday? i mean where was all these people when Chief Keef was being put in the system, and being put on house arrest? nobody gave a fuck.. now he has a chance to be a millionaire and now all of a sudden everybody cares.. i expect this from “the man” but never from my people.. stop waitin until after the fact to act, these kids would’nt know anything about violence if u didnt allow it in your neighborhood. So the problem is not Chief Keef or Flocka Flames, the problem is lazy niggas who dont give a shit about the hood once they make some money and move the fuck out. dont get me started man..
:::same old song::: “conscious” rappers with no fan base attacking street rappers who have real organic following… lame and desperate attention-seeking fueled by resentment+jealousy… i can hear the inner dialogue now: “why dont they like me??? why do they like him??? im so smart.. i went to college… wahhh”
@realtalkfromarealnigga everything you said made sense no one gives a fuck when keef was locked up and wasnt shit yet now he blow this washed up guy comes talking about a nigga who changed his life for the better i dont care what the fuck he talking about he getting money legit way and music is like movies entertainment thats like saying if i watch the dark knight with the joker im gona start blowing up buildings and shit people like iggnorant bad shit no matter how much they say they dont its a mystique to it but good shit to people is boring they dont enjoy it if you rap about going to school not doing drugs working a 9 to 5 aint nobdy fuckin with it but rap about drugs bitches violence people gona fuck with it lol and dont say companys push it dick head cause its like fans got choice of what they want they go to youtube and type the song they want not like back in the days where you had to listen to the radio or had to watch tv i think the next thing to go out the music buisness is the radio too watch music getting easier and easier to get why the fuck i need a radio lol
preciate it my G.. and u right
Its the Illuminati at work…

What he said….are y’all forgetting how most of us found out about him. Kanye seemingly randomly hoppin on the remix…….but maybe it wasn’t so random.
I AGREE AND APPLAUD THAT BROTHER!! CO-SIGN
i could care less about what the youngster is rapping about,, but what i do know is that he is one of the worst since soulja boy!!!
i hear whats he’s saying and i understand it. i dont 100 percent agree with him but i understand him. when i first read an article about chief keef last year i told all my friends his story out of fear that this kid is on deck, i couldnt believe after reading thesmokinggun article on him that he was on his way to success. i was scared for our culture after i read it.
i dont wanna hate on the kid he just having fun, but his music shouldnt be spread to the masses it should be listened to by himself and his crew. i dont wanna take away his opportunities or money he can make but he’s just a knuckle head kid.
if your 15, and you and your friends come up with a joke and its known around your school that this joke of nutting on a girl back, then putting a blanket on it is your joke. we can all agree its stupid and immature, but if a comedian says i wanna buy your joke for 1 million, how can we hate on that, he is spreading his stupidity yes, but we are the ones buying it. the label, radio and fans are more at fault then this kid.
him and french montana are the future, and i’m scared to death
Its funny cause I was just talking about this there has never been a rapper this age that spits this way T.I was right when he said this kid will be the voice of the generation. I think he has talent though. I think buddy tryna put em on blast now cause this kid is getting some attention…..tryna Cashout lol
I think music does have a negative affect on kids and young adults, they are vulnerable and easily influenced by there peers and the things around them. Music is the most direct form of entertainment, it follows you around where ever you are, at home, in the car, on the train, at your friends house. You will even sing it in your head when there’s no music playing. Its about people like you, in similar situations to you, using the same slang and diction as you. If you keep hearing these negative messages over and over again it does have an effect on your mood especially if your easily influenced by things like that. People look up to these guys I grew up with no father and used to look up to dblock, dipset as a kid as well.
Some one said movies are just as bad, but if you think about it if these guys were in a movie they’d probably be playing the bad guy, there condoning violence, guns and drugs and probably would have been killed by an invincible bruce willis type character showing that crime doesnt pay. You dont get any sense of reasoning with these rappers.
He also said its just entertainment and people wouldn’t be entertained by raps about going to school and working a 9-5, I think these artists are just not creative and scared to be different, they keep recycling the same old messages, its as if they want people to feel sorry for there situation when really they could be doing something positive to help there situation ok it might not be gangster to help clean up your community but how long do you want to keep living and perpetuating this bullshit existence. You cant say its just entertainment when people are going on to the streets and trying to emulate what these guys are doing most of which is factitious and glorified anyway.
Rant over, apologies for the essay! Good morning from London UK
well said…
Here’s an eternal question…..
Does art imitate life, or does life imitate art??
People argue both ways. I would say they are joined at the hip….especially if you understand that the human existance does not encompass all of “life”.
With that said, we can’t completely blame the music industry for the negativity. Let’s be honest about how we live and our choices. Stop supporting this shit and see how long they keep promoting it…
We have the power of self-determination. However, we can also let other people “sell” us on what or who we are. If you “rather be a N-I-G-G-A, so you can get drunk and smoke weed all day”, then PLEASE understand the outcome…
That Nigga Music Make Me Want To Shoot A Nigga
He ie 100% correct. I grew up listening to all that stuff too but that’s me, I had a lot of guidance! What about alllllll the kids without that? Coorporate America takes advantage of those cos they tend to be the majority. Chief Kief is utter bullshit but we act like its cool cos everyone else says so, I’m pretty sure he’s surprised by all this attention cos he knows his stuff is bullshit! He must have grown up in poverty too, so he knows!!!! I’m sure he’s wondering what the hell do they see in me? I can tell from his interviews
I believe Rhymefest meant well, I just think the message got cloudy with all the name dropping, but then again would we even be here talking about it if he didn’t mention any names. The reality is rap cannot be the starting point of where we try to “fix” a culture or our youth, I understand the reach that music has and it’s obvious, but the way we generalize this rap game and how it’s affecting our youth with negative messages doesn’t fix anything , there are many factors that contribute to the way our youth behaves.
Music is as powerful as it is because it makes you “feel” something, some music you vibe too because you relate to it, yes there are kids who can relate to Chief or maybe just like his music, but this can turn into an O’Reily v.s Cam/Dame argument a kid might say “wow I can make it too, or I can work hard at something and accomplish my dreams too” or one would say I want to wild out and do evil things it’s a catch 22 when you are someone with so many people paying attention but if it wasn’t the “senseless savagery” Rhymefest mentioned that he claims Chief is about taking the blame it would be something else.(there’s always somewhere to place the blame).
Bottom line it’s deeper than rap, no pun intended.
Co-sign everything Rhyme said as well. Chief’s a bomb in that a bomb isn’t aware of its intended purpose or danger it just does what it does. The kid is only 16 and knows no better sadly so blaming him is useless. The powers that be behind him are to blame coz they couldn’t give a fuck how many youth die coz the music being pedaled to them is full of “about that life” and “we out here my nigga” encouragements.
lets be honest with our self and stop lying everybody is entertained from sex drugs and violence all movies that are top movies has one of these things but why no one says that for movies i never heard the terminator made me pull a gun and blow someone head off but i always hear because of rap you know why they say that because the rap industry is made of mostly black people hollywood is white this country controlled by white people theyre not gonna bash there community about this nigga being the voice of the youth it is the truth cause he reprsents a certain part of the youth but not all but he had to learn that shit from what he saw if youre dumb enough to actually try to live out some ones raps your a stupid mother fucka and you deserve what ever happens to you when did being a follower be so easy now a days people dont have a mind of there own wtf twitter fucking peoples mind up smh all in all chief keef is young got out the ghetto and made a better life for his self thats it rhyme fest should of used some of his bread to help chicago but no one talks about that right the industry gonna pick chief keef cause his music is wild and reckless and people will latch on it easy but trust if he was that wild he wont get a deal like that cause they making a investment in that people get on someone who actually has a fucking talent but no one gets on the kardashians who dont have a talent at all but makes crazy money lol kim is making young girls try to fuck rich niggas to get in the lime light lol stop looking for people on the tv to raise your kids they dont know you and dont give a fuck about you for real its the same old story diffrent times shit will never change you will never hear a rapper who raps about going to school going to church not smoking not drinking not having sex be on top its not gonna happen if you see one you like who dose that try to get him on a million views on youtube and hell be sighned and it will change something but the people who talk about good music dont support it so it wont never happen lol
I agree with @PRIMO….all these lyrical rappers complaining about new niggas cuz they shit aint popping no more…every genre has its purpose and they are all apart of hip hop like it or not…p.s: when im riding i do not wanna hear boring ass beats and lyrics “REAL” hip hop or not
These ol school and underground Hip? hop heads and their fans can say what they want about this new generation you aint got to like or respect it but the show will go on with? or without you, there still is gonna be more albums/mixtapes, more shows/tours, more fans, mo money, mo money,mo money its so many different type of styles to choose from, Im so sick of all this complaining and whining nobody is forcing you to listen to something you dont wanna listen too,? nobody is forcin you to buy or download music you dont want to buy or download, if you dont like what you hear on the radio switch the station or turn it off, if you dont like what you see on TV then change the channel or turn it off.
Whether Rhymefest like it or not rappers like Plies, Waka Flocka, Chief Keef and Fat Trel is speaking the truth and reality of whats goin on in the streets with the young generation rather thats in Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, or Wahington DC. The truth of the matter is its alot of killin, gangbangin, jackin and trappin goin on in the hood and its up to parents to take more resposbility in raising their kids and stop expecting rappers to do it for them.
There is most definitely a difference between “rap” and “hip hop”
I don’t agree with everything Fest said but I will say that the industry does control what is put out to the masses. I never heard of cheif keef until the radios and blogs started to tell me about him. Do you think a 15 year old thug would understand marketing and promotion at this level? Obviously some business people are promoting the kid.
My point is if you really take a look at hip hop/ rap anyone with common sense would see that it’s filled with a lot of fantasy and boast. Rap today in my opinion speaks to just a small portion of the population, the rap artist with the most exposure Rick Ross for example has great entertaining music but I am smart enough to know what he selling is a fantasy and boast entertainment. listen to his songs they all sound like commercails for drug dealer, pimps and criminals. The truth is there’s a lot of young minds that wish they could live the lifestyle he promotes only because he intices the youth with the ashton martins, Jewelry, cash and beautiful women. The funny thing is the Real Boss is Obamma, lol but I don’t hear the media and blogs writing articles of kids that look up to the Pres! and there are a lot of kids and adults who are proud to see a black president! My issue is that too many people look at rappers and atheletes as the pinicle of success, hell nah, there are dentist, lawyers and business owners with more money than rick ross. Music is a business and business is operated by investors ( labels ). This formula makes money for the labels so why would they change it? Good news is there are young rappers like kendric Lamar, Diggy Simmons, J Cole and many more with opposing agendas. The real question to Ryhmfest is what are you going to do about it?
^^ sorry for the typos – in a rush.
Kill urself hes mad because he aint makin money with lyrics
The comments on here are stupid as hell. “Mad because he’s making money”, are these people serious? No wonder there’s no hope for black culture with stupid people like this.
