But Rick Ross delved deeper into the sound, co-opting it as his own. “That’s crazy,” says Waka. “But what you gonna say? This nigga out here making 30 fucking sounds with your sound. He watering it down, just putting words together that sounded good. Shit would be harder if it was the truth.”
If you think Waka might be supremely pissed about the imitators, you’re right. He is. “That shit made me tight,” he says. “Niggas built labels off our sound—like, literally. You know how many niggas sound like Lex Luger and Southside? I go in niggas’ studios, all their beats sound like my producers. I be like, What the fuck?” But above all he tries to maintain perspective: “You can’t be mad at something you can’t control.”

The trap sound was invented by people like shawty red. Lex is hard but he and a few others ran with the style and just added a few small additions. Jeezy, TI, Luda, and ur boy Gucci, been on these kinda beats from day 1 so Waka kill urself 4 real

I would agree every song I listen to sounds exactly the same, but it’s more hip-hop in general, not just Rozay. Plus if anything Ross made it hotter. He’s a much better lyricist so I think Waka is just mad that somebody came and did it better. The difference is Ross just uses that sound for his singles/mixtapes. The albums in full are more diverse than that tho
Whether you think he’s wack or not or whether he produces or not, HE’S RIGHT. I was just having this convo with a friend on saturday and I didn’t even think of it in this perspective but listen to Ross, Meek and Wale’s albums or mixtapes and its like the same songs or beats on repeat but with different words. I’m a Boss, I’m goin to Work, You the Boss, all sound exactly alike but by different artists…Pacman, Albert Pujols and such are also the same tracks but with different ppl’s names in the songs. 5 years from now no one will be playing these songs cause next week they’ll have the same song out again that’ll be hot in the streets but sounds exactly the same. Jeezy did it first and all but in the current, Waka popularized it and its cause of Luger so he’s right
I can respect artist that started of with real music like Nas, Jay, Pun, and others that dont get as much credit for building hiphop to a powerful entity.
