How does a DJ like DJ Drama make money off a mix tape? Its available for free download, never understood that.
He gets an upfront fee from 50 cent to host and promote the mixtape 15k – 45k 50 cent has a huge budget so who knows what he really got paid.
Yes it is a free mixtape, but DJ Drama’s Gangsta Grillz are the MOST downloaded Mixtapes in the Game right now so that’s great promotion for whichever artist. They pay DJ Drama for hosting the mixtape and the promo he does building up the tape because they know how beneficial it could be to helping generate buzz. With Just 3 of his last mixtapes : Dreamchasers 2, Cosignment & There Is No Comp. 3, he has over 5 million downloads. So even though is free, they still hit him off with some good money because with Gangsta Grillz comes a large following.
