During J. Cole’s, “Dollar & A Dream,” tour stop in NYC last night I got a chance to speak with him about his debut album, “Cole World: The Sideline Story.” In this clip I ask him how he linked up with Missy and his first reaction to Jay-Z’s verse on, “Mr. Nice Watch.” Did Jay-Z kill him on, “Mr. Nice Watch”?
More performance footage and interview questions on the way, “Cole World: The Sideline Story,” goes on sale 9.27.11.
Produced By Nigel D.

you got a Classic homie, content alone is a classic; I’m sure these artsy fartsy half homo guys are going to complain about beat selection but in all truth, the beats you did were dope too
Cole World! Album in stores tomorrow!
damn im soo happy for him…and the cover is too DOPE!!
NO WORD OF A LIE!
I swear when I heard Nobody’s Perfect – straight away I thought Aaliyah would’ve been perfect for the hook! But don’t get me wrong Missy did her thing!
I liked the album but why do I keep hearing people saying classic??? Please stop with that, there is nothing classic when two of the best songs are mad old. I am a fan so there is no hate here just being honest. Stop calling every other album a classic.
its crazy to see how far j cole has gone. Im from NC and when i first started listening to j cole nobody knew who the hell he was. Then jay-z gave him a co-sign & everybody n their momma was a cole fan. as far as his album being a classic, I don’t know about that. it is a really dope album. maybe even album of the year but i don’t think its a classic. BTW, you should have told cole his shirt looked fucked up during the interview. not on no gay ish, but just let the brotha know his shit was lookin fucked up. it’s the least you could have done after he gave you an interview.
co-sign 215AllDay
niggas throw around the word “classic” way to frivolously nowadays. is the album good? YES. is it a classic? NO
in this interview he said he had no idea that jay-z was gunna hop on the mr nice watch beat and thats why he got murdered. but in another interview he said he specifically had jay-z in mind when he made the beat. which one is it, cole????
LOL I was wondering what he was gone say about that Jay Verse lol but it didnt sound like they were together when they did it. Cole was just singing a song while jay brought dat AK 47 out lol.
yea Jay did Body dat shit Cole was just singing the song Jayz brought out da AK 47. They obviously didnt do the song together.
@bobby, it was supposed to be gods gift
Classic probably not, but easily in top 3 albums I’ve heard in the past 3-5 years.
Yes, the album is a Classic. If you don’t think so, you have to find yourself reasons why it’s not, that’s hating. Unconsciously or not, that’s your opinion.

@up top, @215AllDay, & @Music Fan; I’m interested to know; what albums you think are classics in the last 15 years? If you name any of Em’s albums and don’t name this one, then I think that’s crazy. This has the realist subject matter that I’ve heard from an artist in a loooong time, more real & genuine than anything a lot of dudes have spit and he did it well.
Again, if the Blueprint is a classic with Song Cry up there, then… lol What reasons would you not say this is a classic album, just interested to know.

@ Onlblast – The most recent Em album that I would say was a classic was Marshall Matters LP which I am sure you would agree is better than this album. Blurprint wasn’t a classic because of Songs Cry, not sure why you made that point. Songs like that merely added to the depth of Blue Print. To throw that comparison back at you, what song on this album is Takeover or Izzo or Heart of the City???? Yeah, exactly, it doesn’t add up. Which is why you don’t just throw around the word classic for every other album that comes out. Once again I am a Cole fan and the album is good.
I am not using this as a part of my evaluation for if it was a classic but I expected more from J. Cole. His mixtapes were better than this album.in my humble opinion. It lacked hunger and energy.
Da boi Cole is coLd Congrats on a stellar debut . NC is def proud of u
J. Cole talked about some real subjects(no guns& drugs) on the album. This album reminded me of some Pac material like White Man World, Brenda’s got a baby, and etc. Some artist only have one or no songs at all about real subjects and he have about 12 songs.I give the album a 9/10,Cole World is just missing that hit record.
Nobody can say what is and isn’t a classic. It’s all just an opinion.
As much as I wanted Cole to drop an Illmatic, this album was more It Was Written, an album that was supposed to appeal to the masses. It’s dope, but not classic. I would rather rock to his mixtapes. I was @ his concert in ATL 10/2, he’s still putting it on for his hardcore fans.
what makes a classic, huh? This is definitely a fucking classic!!THe lyrics are terrific, the beats are awesome. The fuck more y’ll want?A carter IV?
Fantastic site. Plenty of useful information here. I’m sending it to some friends ans also sharing in delicious. And certainly, thank you to your sweat!
