NY Times: More Men Marrying Wealthier Women

“Men now are increasingly likely to marry wives with more education and income than they have, and the reverse is true for women,” said Paul Fucito, spokesman for the Pew Center. “In recent decades, with the rise of well-paid working wives, the economic gains of marriage have been a greater benefit for men.”

The analysis examines Americans 30 to 44 years old, the first generation in which more women than men have college degrees. Women’s earnings have been increasing faster than men’s since the 1970s.

Guys do you have a problem with having a woman that is making more money? I guess some guys are shook because it means the woman can easily be doing good without them and makes them more replaceable.

In my opinion, marriage is played out. The people who we think are perfect cheat on their wives anyways.(Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, A-Rod) Why would you wanna waste your time with one girl and risk losing half of the sh!t you have? It’s 2010, just live your life, enjoy yourself, date multiple women, live happy, get money (and keep it for yourself), and progress. Life is too short to be tied down. There’s so much out there and these chicks will just put a strain on your life. But if you feel as though you found the right girl, do your thing than. Get married. But to me, marriage is the beginning of the end of your freedom. lol

I have no problem wit it. Once that bitch bounces divorces me, that’s bout to b my money tho!!! ya dig! It should work both ways, too bad it won’t.

On a real note tho, my girl be smart as fuck and she def gonna make more money than me, but don’t mean she better than me.

I think most men would be fine with their chick making more money it all depends on how the girl reacts to being in this position. Black girls and white girls typically respond differently.

Most white chicks are used to having money so they don’t trip out, but some black girls start to get cocky with their new found position.

This is obviously a broad generalization to which many exceptions may exist.

why does marriage have to be about money?
this is why america is fucked up becuz everything about your society is based on materialism. that’s why more than half of marriages end in divorce and that’s why I’m sticking with a real woman from africa if im ever gettin married becuz they understand that men and women have different roles. I guess you can say that the good thing about women having equal rights is that they were able to work and all that — but at the end of the day, it made these bitches forget what roles theyre supposed to play in the household. The man is supposed to come home from work and feed the family while the woman is supposed to nurture, nowadays it seems like women wanna do the same as men, and thats why american society is so fucked up becuz these bitches think they can do whatever the fuck they want.

In black culture the role of women in a relationship is traditionally submission.

It’s not gonna be the norm for a woman to submit to a man that doesn’t make more money than her. In 9 cases out of 10 I’m sure the man will eventually have his nose rubbed in the fact that he’s not in the position of financial dominance. It doesn’t even need to be by the woman…it could be by his/her friends/family/coworkers.

That’s just how it is. I wouldn’t be cool with it.

Number 3 and 8 are absolutely correct. I will say in the majority of the cases, if the man doesn’t make more money than the wife its almost a guaranteed argument and/or a trump card that woman can hang over your head. Now in regards to number 3 that is also true as far as how people react, for example if your coming from the ghetto, get your education, and make great money the usual response is it flaunt your success and therefore that’s where the cocky, over-confident, i don’t need you type of woman comes in. Now if a woman had more of stable upbringing there is a high probability that she understands the collective meaning in being “together” and work as whole, and most likely comes from a middle class/upper class social-economical standing vs the latter which is likely to keep the mentality of “I DID IT BY MYSELF” Food for thought
