degrading women literally has NOTHING to do with music. music is a reflection of our culture and society, it is our culture and society that condones sexism and misogyny.

i do like harvey, just not sure why he is taking this direction. i definitely support his attempt to tell dudes to grow up, because the behavior is childish. i just don’t know why he is making it a race issue

He’s on target about Men relating to Women. Credit is due for atleast raising a voice against it.

Adding that Black Men degrade our Sista’s probably b/c he doesn’t listen to other genres that do the same. But this is more about WOMEN (hence why he’s saying this during his book promotion).

Most people, especially kids, find it hard to look at themselves in mirror and constructively realize their faults. Instead, they immediately become defensive, marinate in denial, and perpetuate the childishness by name calling and insults. This is silly. Women have been sex objects in virtually every music form of some sort; Rap Music happens to be the worst form, and the relatively dominant contemporary example. Rap music DOES need to change; however, Rap music doesn’t reflect black men or black culture; it’s an industry staple designed to make money. 75% of Rap’s buyers aren’t even black; they’re usually white, middle class people. So its relatively unfair to look at rap music and blow it up to say that all black men feel this way about women.

Every person who knows absolutely nothing about black people make that assumption, as do ignorant people. Steve Harvey- You are a comedian, not a black leader. You are saying the same crap we always hear and making all black people look bad through rap music, and rap music alone. Again, I’m not saying some rap music doesn’t degrade music; that’s not debatable. But saying that something is wrong with all of the black youth and the black community because of Rap Music, which isn’t in the hands of black people as it is projected by those willing to make money off of anything, is infuriating.

Us as black folks do need to take responsibility; but this talk from the elder generation is getting old. But the older generation doesn’t know what the fuck they’re talking about, let alone the real issue. There; I said it.
