Ja Rule still couldn’t have survived in this landscape because he was tryna have his cake and eat it too. People like Drake don’t try to be tough guy. Ja dropped “Down for You” and then when 50 clowned him he had to try and man up and put out “Clap Back”. At that point people were like: JA WE DON’T BELIEVE YOOOOUU!! If 50 didn’t wreck him over that someone else would have eventually.
Also while I believe Drake was the first to fill this generations desire for rappers to truly integrate singing into their rhymes, he’s just the prototype. There’s a huge opening in the industry right now. If I were an aspiring artist, I would come along and “out-Drake” Drake. His singing ability is only good on wax; and that’s only because of the sound of his voice. Someone will a real singing ability AND real rapping ability could come along and fill the niche.
