College dropout was the greatest album of the decade. We’re talking about an lp that was supported mainly by the artist. listen to “cheers to da roc” the last track on the lp. Of course dame and jay supported ye b/c he was part of the camp, but at the end of the day everyone looked at him as a producer, and figured they’d milk whatever popularity would come. vibe rated his 1st verse on “through the wire” the best verse in 2004.
lets compare GRODT (an lp i feel should’ve at least made top 10) and you’ll notice that 50 used in addition to having DRE produce for him and em co-sign, he used the beef w/ ja (who was hot at the time) to garner interest. example first single “wanksta”. lets be honest we all know that there are hidden agendas when we talk about record labels, more often than not they’d want an artist to hit da ground running w/ a big club banger (ex. “in da club” off GRODT). my boy kanye came through w/ “through the wire” as his 1st single. yo say what u want about his antics (we all have them) this dude to me embodied his love for a genre so authentic and left field from what everyone else was doing and still put up numbers. as i write this now he has already been nominated for several grammys for 808s. all of his previous lps have been up for a grammy for album of the year, we all know if not for the whole taylor swift situation 808s would have as well. Yes, GRODT is a VERY good album, but why are you all so mad it wasn’t higher on some subjective list? Truthfully speaking, Blueprint and the Black Album are artistically head and shoulders above GRODT. Six years later and it’s difficult for me to listen to GRODT all the way through, BUT I can listen to Blueprint and Black Album all the way through. I never thought GRODT lived up to the quality presented in his mixtapes, but that’s just me I guess.

There were many classic Hip Hop Joints this decade. There were many artist who had the spot light this decade. I was suprise to not see Nelly or Luda make the list. The two of them had a huge impact and movement on the decade. Speakerboxx was definetly the most succesfu,l them not getting the nod was a shock. GRODT is 50 Cents one classic album, it should be on the list but not at the top. Jay and Kanye Blazed the whole decade. Em is in another catergory. Wayne had a lot of hit and misses, the Cater 3 is sloted way to high.
I was also suprise to see an Alicia Keys and no Beyonce. That probably is the biggest slap in the face. Beyonce along with Destiny Child have had more impact musically than A Keys.
