Stop exaggerating. Not every black dominican hate being black. However you’ll do find self hating blacks like Sammy Sosa among some afro latinos (especially women). You’ll find them in latinamericans countries where they have a pretty large % of afro latinos. Countries like Cuba Colombia Panama Dominican Republic Brazil…etc
But let’s not forget there are several black americans who do similar things. Lil kim is a good example and she’s not the only one. I used to go to school with some shorties who wanted to bleach their skin to be lightskinned. You also find Africans who bleach their skin. This is an issue that is universal among black folks.

I’m part Dominican/Haitian and I never used to acknowledge the Dominican side cuz I figured no Dominican would ever accept me as Dominican, that is until I went to DR. Only sad thing was, all my BLACK & NAPPY Dominican cousins would get mad offended when I called them Black. There is no difference between American Blacks and Dominican Blacks. We are the same, only real difference is language. American slave masters spoke english and Dominican slave masters spoke Spanish, thats about it.

I have a lot of Cuban friends mostly afro cuban and they know exactly the difference between race and nationality. It’s usually Americans who seem to think Latino is a race. I mean every country in Latinamerica has racial categories so I really don’t understand why those dominicans say “spanish”. That don’t make any sense.

Skin bleaching is not a black thing. This is prevalent worldwide among people of color. The difference is among people of african descent it’s Taboo. If you like who you are you should never bleach your skin while in Asia it’s socialy accepted. In India they even have commercials on TV how to be lighter.

I’m from Detroit but I was born in BK (East NY, Pink Houses) and believe me when I say, most people in Detroit have no idea who, what or where Dominicans are or where they are from. In the minds of the average Detroiter, Mexicans, PR’s, Dominican’s, etc etc are all the same. Sad thing is, I’ve had BLACK as night Dominican’s get fighting mad when the subject comes up about African culture being so deeply rooted in Latin America, namely DR. It makes me sad to see this kind of shit, though. I remember hearing some crazzzzyy excuses for dark skin and nappy hair, the sun burning and drying their hair was the worst one. Sad thing is, the same Dominican (and other Latins and self hating American Blacks, too) that are so quick to dismiss their Blackness but so eager to kiss the ass of Whiteness, those same people would be turned away by any white Spanish person or White person in general if they tried to claim they were the same as their White counterparts.
