As far as killing gangsta rap ..that just shows how theyre dum, ignorant and full of themselves… Gansta rap died way before they even came out… For me it died when PAC died….
Gansta rap represented the racial, economical and just overall struggle that black youth had to deal with in the 90’s …Tupac represented that in hiphop and rhymed about it and when he died, that struggle wasn’t represented the right way or atleast it wasn’t all captured, which resulted in that art form slowly fading away… At the same time, were not in the 90’s anymore and that struggle from just isnt there anymore…things got better and there’s a black president.
If anything i think the cultural change and the lifestyle difference along with the death of the rapper who was best at broadcasting the struggle, resulted in the death of the gangsta rap artform.
It’s awkward for these three goofs to come out of no where and act like they have the power to make a cultural impact.. like who the fuck are you???? do they even have albums out???

Drake is the most successful of the three and he has one hot mixtape and a few verses. But then again Obama won the Nobel Prize for doing nothing so I guess it’s really a sign of the times.

Kid Cudi had Day n Nite, a huge record & he’s dope but he under Kanye & putting up average numbers.

none of these guy have made the impact culturally that gangster rap has made.
I think music is going in the “sublime” direction. “Blacroc” styled is what I think alternative kids will listen to as well as fans of the individual rap artists doing features over band instrumentals.
you can tell lil’ wayne is trying to do something similar with his rock album. but i think he picked the wrong artists, there not as respected in the rock world as he is in the rap world. I wanna see what kind of bigger rock bands he collabs with.
either way, gangster rap stories will always be interesting if done in interesting and unique ways, the saturation was always going to lead to this era of people doing totally diff shit would take over. it’s the nature of the listeners to want something new but still the shit to listen too.
kid cudi, wale, and drake are only doing what the original dudes were doing, there stories (raek, big pun, ice t) just happened to be gangster as shit. the controversy of there mindset and stories helped carry them were they lacked talent, but as they evolved they created a defined and fluid style that influenced all rap artists.
gangster rap is just a label the industry made so they could separate cd’s for the customers. it’s all hip hop to me.
