50 Cent’s, “Before I Self Destuct,” sold 160k records in its first week of sales, including digital sales according to Billboard.com. In comparison, Rick Ross’, “Deeper Than Rap,” debuted with 158k sold in the first week. Other major releases this year were Jay-Z(476k), & Eminem(608k). What do you think of Rick Ross & 50 Cent basically selling the same amount?

50 cent spent a majority of his career if not all generating interest by talking about other people. That’s how he came in the game, and its been a formula that has worked for him. But people are starting to realize the actual content isn’t that good and really hasn’t been in my opinion since Get Rich or Die trying. People are now starting to see him as just a bully or maybe just a character.
It’s sort of funny because 50 once said about Fat Joe or either game that them talking about him generated more interest than their actual album and that their sales prove it.
Now he is in the same boat
I am actually one who doesnt care about your album sales, or how much money you make. Because that’s typically a fan’s defense. “I BET HE HAS MORE MONEY THAN SUCH AND SUCH” . However in this case I am happy to see 50 do these low first week numbers, because he’s always made such a big thing about record sales.

i feel it is time for 50 to push lloyd banks. that guy has mad lyrical ability, he just needs a little direction with someone to give him good poroduction for his albums. i could tell 50 wasnt worried about album sales because he went against his formula for success which was getting that hit friendly club song. so he of all people would probably not be surprised by his numbers. i am just an general observor but i can tell hip hop is slowly dying. 50 for me is the only one that keeps it interesting.

If he received the same sort of love from everyone as when he first came out it would’ve easily surpassed 500k but when someone is that rich and that arrogant people want to see him fail. This is 50’s best album since The Massacre and I think is better than the Massacre. You want to know why he and Rick Ross basically sold the same amount of records: timing and leaking. Ross’s album comes out at the perfect time, during the middle of his feud with 50. 50’s album doesn’t, so come on. Second, look at all the albums of this year, and none of them leaked no earlier than one 1 week. It happened for Jay, Em, Cudi, Ross, everybody basically. 50’s album though comes out 1 month, so about 400,000 to 500,000 copies are lost, maybe even more, and its not like he went back in and changed the album. There’s you reasons.

curtis dropped a good aggressive album…but there are a few things that fucked his shit up.
1. The current state of this mainstream hip hop. With all these homo trends that are coming out, niggas are getting softer and softer every year (why would I wanna ride around bumpin 808 & heartbreaks, or pierce my lips, or wear bright fruity colors, or jean sizes that are meant for bitches??). That aggressive shit is gonna be hard to sell nowadays (pretty sad).
2. Curtis’ ploys got OLD after GRODT, nigga shoulda just focused on making some good music and done what Jay has done his whole career for the most part: Send out subliminals through verses and not go around running his mouth piece.
3. All these fake ass hip hoppers/trend followers/bloggers who base the music quality on SALES (again, another point where Karma bit 50)

Thanks for posting JayZ’s numbers. 50 is still son’n him though in comparison.. Just going by sales. By the time 50 gets to album #11 he will have far surpassed Jay, if that’s the point you’re getting at. 50 is smart. He will learn from this and make adjustments.
Jay will still be very successful too. I mean he HAS sold his soul for fortune and fame according to Nas, Prodigy, and many others (success in the music biz is about more than just talent). -Lady CaCa has a huge buzz, video getting 18 million hits in 1 week. CD highly anticipated, nice budget, but only sells 180k-200k. Like 50’s, this should be considered a flop.
-Rihanna buzzed off being the lil “Chris Brown victim”, crazy reviews on the CD, crazy interviews, controversy, and promo was on point, but also selling 180k-200k. (Even sold it for $3.99) Hmmm.
-Fag bag Adam Lambert selling 210-230k. Apparently gays running things and they support their people. Plus controversy pushes records and this jock-strap has the biggest controversy base on the AMA’s right now.
-Susan Boyle. Nuff said. Fans of all genre is buying her CD. 600k is expected. She is a phenomena since America Got Talent.
-Birdman only selling 35k with all his Drake features, same #s for his new artist Jay Seam. SMH

EVERYONE knew that this album was coming out, if there were REAL 50 CENT FANS out there, they would have bought it regardless of the albums leak. It helps to have mainstream connections because they give you record sales. 50 cent flopped because he made no music that appealed to the mainstream. His album was good, there’s no doubting that, but he flopped because he didn’t spoon feed radio hits to the public. Jewish people have NOTHING to do this with; bring your hate elsewhere. Why did Game say Karma is a bitch? After all he started there beef to begin with ( or moreover, didn’t know how to deal with G-Unit beef dissing Ja Rule and 50’s hood rappers who were dissing him like Black Child and Domination, then told by 50 to not fuck with them, then when the rappers who came along who he was supposed to diss, he didn’t, pretty fucked up) thats not to mention the fact that the only real beefs 50 started was with Jada, Fat Joe and Shyne, there really aren’t any other beefs he started himself.
What 50 needs to do is go back to his hood whether he likes it or not, if he wants to make good music, as thats how rappers stay hard, look at M.O.P., 15 years and there still more hardcore then any of today’s rappers, and there fans have yet to be disappointed with there albums, and they said in a interview that they didn’t really care about the money and the fame, they just enjoy what they do and just want the money for plumbing, food and other essentials. Otherwise he’ll have to do with what he did with Curtis, made a insane bet that all his fans who torrent his album will buy it. He instead just tried to make a couple mixtapes to stir people up for this album, which obviously didn’t work very well.

I personally think that his album leaked, all his fans and others heard it, and didnt like it enough to buy it. I mean, they obviously didnt buy it and it obviously leaked. 50 cent fans also would know that he is a person that cares about those 1st week sales, so if they were fans then they woulda got it.
Secondly, lyricist are coming back. Lyrics count, maybe he should think about that before talking 100% material things and about HIS beefs with other rappers. Maybe consider talking about something, or sending a messege, or making a song that the masses would be able to relate to. 50’s low sales don’t surprise me however I do think the album should have atleast sold around 300,000. 50 Cent’s popularity dropped dramatically after the Massacre, due to the beefs, the album content, and absence of variety. If 50 had another collabo with Justin Timberlake it would have more hype, hell if he had a collabo with Ciara there would be more hype, but he doesn’t. 50 needs to grow I think he needs to listen to Get Rich or Die Tryin (album not the OST) and remember that hunger, then stop beefin, it’ doin noth for his career.

Rick Ross doesnt even deserved to be mentioned in the same breath. Has any of u lame progress hatin fools actually listened 2 d album or did u just get off a dick and decided 2 lay a bunch of shitty comments here. i mean lyrically it felt like i was listenin 2 fif when he just came out with get rich or die tryin. And if you say get rich or die tryin was the last time he was good lyrically or musically then this new album definitely shows that fif still got it. Rick ross is always tryna get on a dj khaled track or a lil wayne track. i love the guys songs but fif smokes him everytym. Heres my advice. Stop hatin fif. Get off your fat ass and listen to the album. Nobody gets that many platinums without actually being able rap.

I love how half the people who came here to talk shit about fifty start by calling out his fans and criticizin them as groupies who will love 50 no matter wat he does you guys r just as bad because ur haters who will hate him and ride his dick no matter wat he puts out. im not a fan of 50, but if u really listened to the album then there is no way u cud criticize him as being wack. his flow was the hardest its been since get rich and he stepped his lyricism way up. the only reason hes not sellin anymore is cuz rap is movin away from that real street shit. people wud rather listen to wayne and drake, so if ur gonna criticize 50 tell the truth, it was a hard album buthe dropped 5 years too late the rap game isnt tough anymore

This is a classic case of someone who made their bed and now is forced to lie in it. Don’t get me wrong fif has done alot of monumental things in hip hop. But if you compare him to the other artist nowadays. His sound is somewhat dated and antiquated. He is rapping the same way he was rapping six years ago and that within itself is very boring. If he was more humble and not always walking around showing his ass then he wouldn’t be humiliated right now. But for crying out loud how many times does he think hes going to get away with the same shit. He tried to manufacture a feud with kanye and kanye obliterated him. He tried to do the same with jay and jay ignored his desperate attempts to stay current. At this rate he’s not going to be able to show his face in public unless he re introduces himself as a person who thinks before they open their mouths. Because at this point he has already self destructed. So i give him that much.
