  4. Backlash Says:

Not only the video, but nas’s letter Also brought alot of light ..to the incident that happened in chicago …if it wasn’t for that ..the media would of just ignored it ..like they do everything else that goes on in this world in…inner cities like chicago, detroit ..newyork,Baltimore etc. ..if it’s not about any celebrities or the president ..than most likely you won’t hear about it in the media .and..maybe other celebrities will see this ..and speak out about it also…NAS!

  5. blaze Says:

    @ BackLash

speaking about this incident would not suffice. solutions need to be churned out.

  6. The Truth Says:

The greater portion of these “big name artists” efforts will go to waste. The issue doesnt lie with whether we speak positive or speak about guns and violence. As long as blacks and other minorities do not have access to the same opportunities as white do, we will continue to see these things happen. We will continue to see black and latino men expressing their will power and potential in the only avenue available to us, those that the whites GIVE to us, which coincidentally are “bad”.

Its the Truth. The whole system/attitude/culture of America needs a major shift. Do you see whats going on with this white resentment toward obama, all this teabagger BS. Racism is alive. It was behind closed doors, now we are starting to see caucasian brothers in desperation to cling on to what they have left. They have always been competitive, colonizers, destroyers, and murderers….

COMPASSION. LOVE. They need to find it. We all gonna die one day, why are they so obsessed with money and power?

  7. gary Says:

  13. shaunATL Says:

well music does put some violence but not that much i mean if u so dumb and listen to song and do what it tell you then you got problems

  14. BigLou Says:

Ya some real weak minded ass niggas if you let yourself be influenced by music, tv, or any other type of media. The root of the problem is the role models or lack there of these kids have growing up. Women having babies with niggas that want no parts of them….Men having babies with no regard for the child’s life……then these kids grow up with the lack of supervision and start acting reckless….I have a child and she takes all the attention possible from both me and my wife……….some of ya better start thinking about that shit before you start popping out kids….real talk

exactly!! …cosign Biglou ….imma big fan of gangsta rap, but i have enough common sense to ..know ..not to go out on the streets and do these things that they are rapping about ..this is only entertainment …you have to learn how to separate this from real life , most of these stories rappers tell are fabricated…their not doing half the things .they are rapping about .why would you… @blaze …tru

  16. 2cents Says:

Everyone is influenced by something; but to emulate everything, jus because, is dumb to me! Point Blank sh!ts deep and until people ain’t scared to die and ready to live for each other instead of in spite of each other everything will be F’d up!!! In general we’re too busy makin it our life goal to stunt on folks half of which could care less bout what we think we got cause, we done already gave up what we had of value, and the majority of the rest we have to step on jus to show off for those who care less…lol smh REALTALK!

I can’t fully agree with this statement. Just like the family, all the thing you listed are sources of socialization. So long as you have constant exposure to these things, it’s highly likely that you’ll be influenced or socialized by them. Any introductory sociology class tell people this. You’re right about the family being the primary source of socialization, though; if have a strong family foundation, being taught the right things by both a good mother and father (like it seems you and your wife are doing), then you’re less likely to fall victim to some of the less direct forms of influence. But because someone is influenced by music, movies, tv, etc. doesn’t mean they’re weak. Sorry ’bout the rant.

  19. allnightALLDAY Says:

yea i like nas but he is full of shyt. music does influence the actions & minds of the youth . what an idiot statement from this dude. ( thought he was smarter)

Good post, glad heads caught this interview. I think a lot of people missed it and the ones that saw it (outside of the core hip hop community familiar with Nas‘ work) kinda took it at face value that Nas is just another thug MC. The thing is that the interview was slanted against Nas from the beginning. CNN used a few basic media and PR tricks to set this up and make Nas look like an ass. I broke down the situation on a post on my site. Check it out if you’re interested in media criticism. http://boothish.wordpress.com/2009/10/07/the-problem-with-the-cnn-don-lemmon-nas-interview You’re doing some good work on this blog. I’ll be checking back. Keep it up. -k
