MTV Answers Why Eminem Isn’t In The Top 10 Hottest MC’s
His hotly anticipated return to hip-hop after a long absence drove first-week sales of over 600,000 — the highest first-week sales of the year so far. But then Em retreated to the lab, where he spent the summer crafting Relapse 2. From June to September, Em all but took himself out of the public eye, while other MCs generated week-to-week heat with mixtapes, guest appearances, performances and Web activity. Eminem is one of the best ever on the mic. His track record is undeniable. The Hottest list deals with right now, though. If the Brain Trust had compiled the Hottest list back in May, there’s no doubt Eminem would have made the Top 10.

First off the only two credible people on the panel was Sway and Sha (the pudgy black guy), the rest of the panel could be left out or replaced. Second you can’t have a hottest MC in the game right now, because all MCs have to take a break to record. So If for example Young Jeezy drops an Album 3rd quarter of last year, he carries momentum all the way to 2nd quarter of this year, he could be considered not hot in October 09 according to the way MTV does things. But then he drops 103 in december if the list is done in January he could be top three. It should not be like that because Jay-Z road the momentum of Blueprint 3 to number one. The list should take into account the whole year calendar year 3rd quarter to 3rd quarter, because the list is held in the 3rd quarter.
If it was done that way the list would look like this (my opinion)
1. Jay-Z- he had the biggest influence on hip-hop since the last list came out.
2. Lil Wayne- Constant tours, music, you name it Lil Wayne has his hand in it. Any Lil Wayne verse is a must hear
3. Drake- Without an album, besides the prior two he is the most talked about, delivering thought provoking verses.
4. T.I.- The only person to match what T.I. did in the first half of the calendar year was Wayne. He dropped a platinum album and hit after hit killing the clubs. He won awards etc. Had a show on MTV. If it wasn’t for prison he would be higher.
5. Kanye West- Fell off a bit because, lets face it he did not drop a hip hop album, but he did kill the charts and dropped hot lyrics on features.
6. Eminem- His relapse album killed the charts and he destroyed the forever track, but I can’t move him ahead of the folks in front of him.
7.Young Jeezy- Killed the clubs and mixtape circuit. He dropped smashes like Put On and had everyone saying my president is black.
8. 50 Cent- dropped two hot mixtapes and via the internet he went so hard this calendar year, he was in everyone’s mouth by embarrassing fellow rappers.
9. Gucci Mane- Killed the mixtape circuit and even had a few hits with Mario and Mariah.
10. Soulja Boy- Besides 50 Cent he has had the most internet presence, making us laugh and dance to his music.
Honorable mention- Fabolous and Rick Ross
Fabolous dropped an alright album that had some hits, but he lacks consistency and that smash that sets the clubs, charts and streets on fire simultaneously.
Rick Ross- Had some hits but 50 Cent killed his buzz and credibility.

Second you can’t have a hottest MC in the game right now, because all MCs have to take a break to record. So If for example Young Jeezy drops an Album 3rd quarter of last year, he carries momentum all the way to 2nd quarter of this year, he could be considered not hot in October 09 according to the way MTV does things. But then he drops 103 in december if the list is done in January he could be top three. It should not be like that because Jay-Z road the momentum of Blueprint 3 to number one. The list should take into account the whole year calendar year 3rd quarter to 3rd quarter, because the list is held in the 3rd quarter.
I agree that its hard to find the hottest right now b/c most MCs aren’t really relevant until their album or mixtape is about to drop. In my humble opinion whether you like em’s new cd or not it sold over 600,000 first week, nobody else has done that besides Jay this year( correct me if im wrong) I cant fuckin stand Gucci, but i can understand why he is on the list….he’s hot right now(why? who knows?) but to have the #1 ALBUM for a min that makes em HOT AT THE MOMENT.
