Homie, Curtis came out in 2007. It’s 2009 which everyones album sales is taking a nose dive. Selling 300k or more your first week in 2009 is a HUGE! accomplishment, because 65% of hip-hop albums are flopping like fat people jumping into pools ranging from 2008-2009.

If 50 Cent BISD sells less than 250,000 copies the first week, is that equivalent to Fat Joe selling 8,000. To understand my analogy and thought process, calculate these numbers for albums this year outside of Lil Wayne’s Carter III……..

1. Lil Wayne – Carter III………over 1 mil first week
2. Jay Z – Blueprint III……….476,000 in first week
3. Eminem – Relapse…….608,000 in first week
4. Rick Ross – Deeper Than Rap………..158,000
5. Fabolous – Loso’s Way…………99,000
6. Raekwon – Cuban Linx 2…………68,000

Raekwon, Fabolous, and Rick ross first week sales are equivalent to Fat Joe selling 8,000 copies. 50 Cent selling 250,000 is equivalent to Fat Joe selling 8,000 copies. How Joe gon’ recover from such a blow, is the question at hand here. I read what everybodys had to say on the matter, and the majority had valid points. Although some was just damn stupid ”At least Joe dropped an album.” I was never a Joe fan, but c’mon man he should know better on how to go about making music for his fan base. My personal opinion I think thats what its all about. Making music for your demographic, if you happen to reel in new listeners thats the icing on the cake, that also shows that you got some type of flare poppin off with your music. This is how Soulja Boy been survivng. His music is straight up high school genre shit. Thats who pay his bills. 50, to me came hard his first 2 albums, oh and especially when he was underground. After that it’s just been funny ass stunts like this that’s keeps him relevant in the hip hop ring. Its a tricky thing now, cause an artist today gotta be able to make music that keep folks rockin to as well as make you think like “damn did he/she just say that?” And at the same time pull them big numbers. You either get a rapper who can one or the other, but it’s rare to get an artist that can do both and be that complete package.
