    O, I agree.

  2. Fresh Says:

So does he know that Jay-z isn’t with Def Jam and the BP3 came out on Rocnation his own record label?

  3. 2Words, Swallow it Says:

RTNY does the same shit that radios do. so whata fuck they doing asking that dumb question. Watch them delete my post, no worries is not the first time that i touch a nerve.

  4. YourBoyJ Says:

jayz aint on defjam no more and universal motown is doing what he’s saying with drake so defjam aint the only ones lol but other than that the vid is cool

  5. young fun$$$ Says:

this nigga act like he know everything

  6. youngjaybk Says:

i definitely disagree with what he saying about def jam there is so many artists out there in the game that get no air play thats not def jam fault people just not trying to hear that music on a mainstream all day radio tip slaughter house is garbage rakweon spitting like its 94 hip hop has evoloved dramatically funny how he hasn’t mentioned lil wayne name hes not on def jam and had the radio on smash for a yr straight and jay-z not even on def jam he on roc nation he got his own label and he at the top of the game so of course he getting radio play he paid 5 million just to get off def jam to sell his album through roc nation who else doing that

  7. scorpio Says:

What kind of stupid interviewer is this? Couldn’t he have told him that Jay ain’t on Def Jam no more?

  8. S.T.A.T. Says:

You can’t place the blame solely on one record label. All Def Jam did was play the game to near perfection by getting there artist the necessary resources and exposure. No matter if the artist was wack or legendary. I bet KRS wouldn’t complain if he was on Def Jam and getting all the buzz and resources. In the end its a business.

  9. RIck Says:

I think people are missing the point. I’m willing to bet it is the YOUNGER generation too who are confused on what he said.

Yes, Jay-Z isn’t on Def Jam no more… But his last 10 Albums were, and Def Jam had a big part of him as well as other artist blowing up today. He’s not saying they are the ONLY ones still fucking up the game today. He is saying they are the ones who layed it down and originated it. And now all the other hip hop labels around the mid and late 90s followed suit to what the Biggest n Best Hip Hop label of the 90’s were doing.

That’s all I understand him completely. Def Jam is the reason for Nas not getting a fair battle with Jay back in 02. Angie Martinez & Funx Flex cashed in BIG TIME when Super Ugly & Blueprint 2 came out.

  10. SO ICY BOI Says:

Jay-Z did have a deal with Def Jam when he first was president he said this the last album he had under the record label contract was he became president he sign a 2 album deal with them kingdom come and the last is blue print 3

  11. pastor Says:

*sighs* their biggest problem? KRS ONE?

  12. Corey Says:

I agree with some of what he says, but overall I think he is leaving out the same key points that all rappers/singers leave out when they talk about their music not being played on the radio. QUALITY and CONTENT are very important! Even some of Jay’s material that many in the hardcore hip hop crowd would consider his best work will never get radio play. If Def Jams power is all that, why hasnt Method Man and Redman been all over the radio like they have in years past? Why have Def Jam artists fallen off?

And the biggest thing wrong with hip hop is the lack of originality.

  13. Peyton Says:

I could’nt even pay attention to the video, did you guys see dudes teeth???? O. M. Fucking G!!!! GROSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. County of kings Says:

Why blame def jam cuz they smashed all of their competition, cuz they got the blueprint correct, cuz that label that he claims killed hiphop actually saved hiphop and but out more legendary classic albums than any other label in the world. He blames defjam because ppl actually spent money to purchase albums that were coming out on defjam? Stop fuckin hatin krs def jams good far outweighs it’s bad. Can someone run a list startin wit jayz, scarface, nas, dmx, redman, meth, ghostface, Erick sermon, foxy, def jam practicly made hiphop worldwide and if defjam didn’t do it some other wack label like death row, or cash money wouldve.
Does he ever mention anything he likes about hiphop always hating never praising

  15. roman540 Says:

    #12…. you’s a stupid mofo… ROFLMAO!!!!

  16. pastor Says:

    i cosign times 3.

  17. pastor Says:

the def jam building is beautiful

  18. richgm Says:

Why would you guys even dispute KRS-1, He’s been in the game for such a long time. He knows things that none us know, he gave Def-Jam all the props in the world. It is what it is, I’m sure he cannot say everything in that short interview but like he said he must speak the truth. Just take it as it is, he said let DefJam be so let it be but dont be upset and disrespect because KRS-1 spoke his truth. Its all hip hop, lets just be fans!!!!

  19. young Says:

think on this more.. destroy hiphop? LMFAO!

  20. name Says:

the reality is that krs-one knows more about contracts, deals and labels than any of you bloggers. thats not a diss, but you clowns don’t have to say “jay isn’t on defjam” like krs doesn’t know that shit. try to listen more closely so you might learn next time

  21. DIRT ANGELS Says:

IF TROUT MOUTH WERE IN ANY OTHER SPOT, ON A PRESENT ROTATION, HE WOULDNT SAY THIS SHIT. ITS BAD WHEN OLD MEN CANT SMELL THEIR OWN FARTS.

  22. Mic Sorc Says:

    Agree with Rick and Name.

What you also gotta realize is when you’re number 1 in the game like Def Jam has been, you also set the standard for others to follow and you set the tone for the sound of music, period. At one point, Def Jam had Jay, LL Cool, DMX, Onyx, Def Squad, Foxy Brown, EPMD, Red and Mef. I’m talking about late 90’s, early 2000s. No other garbage was getting airplay and getting in. Hiphop was in a good spot. We had lyrical rappers being played. Hype Williams was directing creative and innovative videos for these artists. All rappers were trying to be lyrical to compete. Fast foward, to where they have Rick Ross and Young Jeezy up front and the rest playing the background, now everybody wanna spit coke raps, be hustlers, flash money. And Def Jam financially backs up that image thru marketing, videos, radio spins, shipping the music out to every DJ in America.

This video aint about KRS, Jay-Z or Def Jam really. Its about money and power. Cause when you have both, you really can control everything for everyone. KRS aint hating on Def Jams success. He’s just saying, the rest cant get heard cause Def Jam is pumping their message thru a very expensive and loud megaphone. Its not gonna stop and its an almost immovable object.

  23. shine95 Says:

he going off that view where “hip hop honors” is honoring a record label period. Once again the culture was not about money, but later on it’s was for the better cause people ate off this hip hop. Def Jam destroyed it but Sugar hill records started it(Rappers Delight).
I knew VH1 and seein it when they honored missy elliot and still ain’t honor KOOL G RAP. the fuck is wrong with these people. I stopped watchin that shit.

  24. ScrewHeads.Com Says:

KRS just says outlandish stuff to start convo. He does this every time a mic is in his face, he knows what he’s doin.

    http://screwheadsonly.blogspot.com

  25. L.O.V.E. Says:

OK But who destroyed his grill?ewwww.he complains about the radio, proving that he’s a dinosaur.I don’t know the stats, but I guarntee 50% of all music is heard on the internet,35% on TV and maybe 15% on the radio. So who cares?Just as many ppl get to see Kid Cudi and Wale as they do Jeezy.Jeezy didn’t even get that much burn on the radio this time, his shit was simply hot and right on time with the Recession concept.Streets did it..Otherwise we would’ve heard the 2nd album, which was not hot.I hate complainin ass has-beens.He didn’t hesitate to mention his project, either I noticed.I promise if he had the same marketing budget as whoever he wants to name,he would end up in some serious DEBT.He would not do BP3 numbers. He can’t even do Man on the Moon numbers.Slaughterhouse hot,but whr are the songs?SONGS,not random verses put to the one beat.Give this dude a retirement package, including dental care, and maybe he’ll sit his ass down.

  26. allnightALLDAY Says:

    TRUTH
yes the white zionists controlled def jam ruined hiphop. (white men in suits run def jam not rus lol)

but it wasnt only them, krs didnt mention the white satanic zionist controlled vivendi, universal, columbia, & of course white mafia controlled sony. these monopoly men own the radios, distribution corp., & labels.

KRS ALWAYS SPEAKS TOO RESPECTFULLY WHICH PREVENTS HIM FROM TELLING THE WHOLE TRUTH BECUZ IT IS OBVIOUS HE IS TRYING NOT TO OFFEND THE WRONG PPL & BURN BRIDGES……..

rich satanic white men in suits destroyed hiphop bottomline

  27. Doc Says:

    2 words : FUCK KRS!!!Get a life stupid, you ain’t no teacher!!!

  28. yessir Says:

he said the truthfully true ish !!!
    nothing but truth

defjam built a great chance for all these rappers
MTV, BIG PROMO… defjam makin’ stars
but the egemony has his bad side too

    hell yeah
    of course it’s real
    KRS THE TEACHA

  29. TYBO2020 Says:

YOU AINT NO DOCTER EITHER, BUT I SAY 2 WORDS; NICE TITLE. RESPECT THE TEACHA, HE FOR NIGGAS LIKE YOU THAT PRETEND TO BE WHAT THEY NOT, BUT AT LEAST HE IS AN HONORARY PROFESSOR IN ALL TOP COLLEGES…WHERE YOU PRATICE? YA MOMS KITCHEN? OR BATHROOM??

  30. DIDDYGYNA Says:

YES!!!! it SHOULD BE ON ITS WAY GUYS!! lmao!! krs fav of all time by the way….. in the kitchen at the top floor of my apartment in miami :)

  31. the real gangster Says:

krs-1 is right defjam did fuck the shit up.

  32. d Says:

Here we go again, everyone is gonna follow him because he sounds like he knows what he`s talking about.
Any ways i think someones a lil pissed because their album only sold 2000 copies.

It was all cool when def jam spoiled us with countless fire albums now everyone gonna be on some fuck def jam shit

  33. Corey Says:

If Def Jam has that much control, why did LL stop selling records? And NOBODY in the history of rap has had the ladies lovin them like LL.

At some point rappers are gonna have to start taking a hard look at the work they put out.

How can you put out music that isnt as good as the music you put out 10, 15 years ago?

Compare the songs KRS got going at Nelly with the joints he got going at MC Shan. In terms of quality its not even close.

  34. Can IT! Says:

“RTNY does the same shit that radios do. so whata fuck they doing asking that dumb question. Watch them delete my post, no worries is not the first time that i touch a nerve.”
    ———————————————————-

Thats what I was going to say. I blame blogs like this along with the radio for any issues with hip hop today- Banks said it best “the media caiters to pop, not violent hits / THE UNIT AIN’T FALL OFF IT’S ALL POLITICS”

  35. Can IT! Says:

I disagree with krs though. Def Jam has done wonders for the hip hop game none the less just about every artist with def jam first singles are always a hit. Rick Ross – Hustlin = hit / Luda – souther hospitality = hit / Bow wow – Bow wow wow = hit / LL’s first joint = hit and so on…..

  36. Real Nigga Says:

I agree, cosign to the 100th^power. Damn KRS-one teeth are yellow!,same color as the bottom of my columbia jordan 11’s…=/

  37. Kalagenesis Says:

KRS One is no teacher,he is a hypocritical double talking jealous, crazy loser. He on one hand says Def Jam destroyed hip hop then in the same paragraph he says Def Jam is the definition of hip hop.He talks out of both sides of his dumb mouth.Check this Kala Nation blog about the so called teacher.
    http://kalanation.blogspot.com/2009/03/why-hip-hop-lost-its-respectthe-rise.html

  38. fullclip Says:

fuck krs-one…wen i first got into rap (which ill admit took me awhile) i listened to all the thought provoking rappers–black star, tribe, roots, az, nas, gangstarr, etc etc but krs never did shit for me and real talk wen he said that shit after 9-11 i wanted to body that nigga..also if u saw him at rock the bells he probably preached religion on ur ass for a good 15+ minutes..krs need to shut the fuck up, quit crying, and start planning his retirement home

  39. Shwaba Says:

from what he was saying it sounded like he meant “defjam CHANGED hip hop”
u cant knock them for being a dominant label, thats just stupid
anyway krs isnt a relevant No.1 rapper now, so he’s just a lil bitter i guess

  40. allnightALLDAY Says:

hiphop is not dead its just not getting any airplay by the white corp. owned media. The mainstream media makes or breaks a artist by playing or not playing their shyt. support underground artist by buying their shyt, fck corp america

  41. allnightALLDAY Says:

its kinda sad that krs isnt a billionaire, for all hes done for hiphop, but he speaks double talk as if hes protecting the same ppl hes accusing. I always thought krs would have been the leader of some world changing political truth movement. but he speaks as if he is scared to tell the whole truth. fck it.

  42. E From BK Says:

It is truly apparent that some of you don’t even understand where he is coming from. First of all, to be on some “Fuck KRS” type talk is pretty ridiculous. If you don’t like duke’s music then so be it, but to try and discredit the dude’s legacy is silly. This guy hands down is one of THE very best to ever do it. Up ther with your precious little Biggie and Pac’s. As a matter of fact, Biggie or Pac, NEVER produced the music that KRS did. Pac had some of the content, but not the skill and BIG had a lot of the same skill, but not the content, however, I digress. It’s okay for him to criticize Def Jam and praise them in the same interview. Nobody TOTALLY agrees with what anyone else is doing. Its not possible and if you outwardly do it, then you are a yes man/woman.

  43. 50 "SNITCH" CENT Says:

yes you can blame def jam 100% for screwing up hiphop…………Def Jam went from the beastie boys and run dmc to………………..rocko, rick ross, and playaz circle. YEAH!!! Def Jam destroyed hip hop when they started signing garbage ass artists to their roster

  44. izreal Says:

Dr. Cornel West told Obama, Im gonna do my best to help you get in office, but understand, once you get there, I’m gonna criticize the heck out of you, because thats how you keep those in power accountable to those who put them there..

I can see what KRS-ONe is saying as very similar. Although DEF JAM helps make Hip-Hop music the force that it is today, it also proliferates much of the nonsense that is associated with Hip-Hop today.

  45. Mo Says:

THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH HIP HOP IS KRS-ONE.

  46. Jeff-X Says:

    I have that hoodie.

  47. 2cents Says:

Couldn’t see vid but that never stopped me before… lol
-Can you really blame Def Jam? Yup! but I’d rather blame the week minded fck ups that sold out and let the game get changed up like this!

likin the posts of Rick #9; Izreal # 44

@ allnightALLDAY… I sorta cosign but if you allow a man to do something the blame lies with you not him in my opinion!

  48. Dede bpt Says:

AYO I LOVE KRS ONE AND I FEEL WHAT HE SAYIN CAUSE ITS THE TRUTH DEF JAM IS FUCKIN UP RAP AND JAYZ HAS A HAND IN THAT TOO BUS KRS ONE HOME BRUSH YA FUCKIN TEETH BRO U MAKIN GOOD MONEY U BEEN IN THIS RAP SHIT 4 YERAS BRUSH YA TEETH DOG U ON CAMERA LOOKIN LIKE U JUS ATE A BAG OF CRUNCHY CHEESE DOODLES THIS NOT A DISS LOOK AT MY MAN TEETH SHITS DISGUSTING IM OUT I LOVE HIP HOP BRIDGEPORT CT ,I REP ALL DAY

  49. Dede bpt Says:

CAN SOMEONE HAND MY MAN A FUCKIN TOOTH BRUSH HE ON SOME FIRE MAN SHIT JUS JUMP OUTTA BED AND WALK PASS THE BATHROOM AND WENT TO THIS INTERVIEW

  50. J.R Says:

^^ OMG LMFAO thank you that made my morning lol

  51. czz upp Says:

im feelin this nigga man for real hes gota realllll good point straight up and down hah fuck def jame and most importanlty fuck that nigga jay-z

  52. bill buggs Says:

jay-z saved defjam, defjam was on it’s way out by the early 90’s when dre began to dominate the sales, that’s when rush tried to get hardcore with acts like onyx and redman, defjam was already loosing sales to interscope and westcoast emcees in general LL Cool J and PE, epmd, had really become none factors in the scheme of things by then, everyone was booging to hardcore and claiming they were keepin it real, representin, I remeber when rush was even told to sign dre to save defjam, then came jay-z, foxy brown, dmx, etc… a new generation of defjam was born harder edged, but still it kept defjam going and gave them their cred back, then came 99 and rush cashes out, many will say genius move, but is it genius to sell ur masters too? and still call yourself a mogul? Rush has always been about the money, folks those of us old enough and from nyc that knew rush back in the days before defjam will tell you that straight up.

  53. S_Dot Says:

KRS wasn’t saying that Def Jam has made Jay Z’s album dominate, he said that the fact that Jay Z’s album is dominating is a result of the climate that Def Jam has helped to create, or rather has created.
