Kid Cudi Is Expected To Sell Around 120k

Available on Amazon for $3.99
Muse’s “The Resistance” and Kid Cudi’s debut album “Man on the Moon: The End of Day” are both looking to sell around 120,000 copies each, according to industry prognosticators.
Why aren’t more albums on sale for $4? Itwill definitely boost billboard numbers and I’m assuming they are still making money of the mp3 sales, but I don’t know the numbers. Does an artist having their album for sale for so cheap discredit their billboard numbers?

It absolutely does. But when those sales drop 75% next week, Cudi’s gonna be on the losing end. I respect Raekwon’s numbers more for full price than Cudi’s for a third of the price.

120K thats great. but he’ll be stuck @ 200K at the end.
if your name aint Eminem, 50 cent, Jay-Z, Wayne, T.I or Kanye…you’ll flop

I don’t understand why albums are so damn expensive anyway…. $4 sounds great to me- same price as a mixtape @ the corner store. That’s why I haven’t bought a CD in over 3 years… the damn prices… I don’t care who it is- or how good the material is. I have other shit to spend my $$$$$ on…

I think billboard numbers went out the door a long time ago. I don’t think artists even care it seems. They have some many ways to make money..although, it would be nice to sell a million copies or be number one

of course that is not going to discredit the artist album sales. Album sales are Suppose to calculate the amount of fans with the album. if all albums were just free that still dosent mean that the same amount of people who have a copy of rakwon will have a copy of jay z… free or not its only to determine the amount of ppl who wanted the album

Why are first week sales in hip hop so important? That’s the problem, people judge their opinions on how good an album does the first week.
Look at taylor swift, her first week sells for her first album were below 40,000 and she went on to sell, i think it was, 4 million+. It’s word of mouth people. If you like an album, put your friends on to it. And if they don’t buy it and they just download it or rip yours, but they still end up liking it, they’ll most likely support the artist on their next album.

Im just happy my dude Songz had a good first week, like 136K. Trey been puttin it down and is bringing that real R&B shit

thats about 2 pounds in english money lol.. Its a loss, because i think he would of done those numbers at the normal retail price.

@ comment #6 sales are important the 1st week because thats when sales are big when weeks past they slow down dramatically

Cudis for his fans. Who cares if he sells cheaper its means he makes less while u walk away with a $4 cd. I respect the method because this cd should be worth more than jays bp3 anyday
September 19th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
how bout they start making music actually worth buying
September 19th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
I BOUGHT THE ALBUM….and been listenin to it everyday
artists make most of their money in shows anyway i think
There’s a deluxe edition of the album that’s around $18…has a DVD wit video and concert tour. That should be the regular price($10)….make the album worth the buy….instead u gotta pay an extra $8.
Albums are typically $10 nowadays….but they should include some extra stuff like a dvd or sumthin

that’s some dumb shit selling an album for 4 dollars and raising you billboard chart numbers. Where the braging rights if lets say he sell a million copies in 1 week, that album was sold at 4 dollars who the hell would be surprised. Still sad that at 4 dollar albums it’s only predicted to sell 120K. Normally true fans buy albums…this thing of selling 4 dollar album is a good approach in the sense that now your not only gonna have true fans buying the CD but you have people who just wanna check it out (even though u can download it) people are gonna be like “hey is only 4 dollars”. Then for the true fans you’ll have that deluxe edition that 10+. Every label should start taking this approach and try get everyone in on buying albums.

The worst part is if he dont even do the projected numbers at reduced price, what will the label do?? I hope he can but it looks a set-up for a flop!
September 20th, 2009 at 12:06 am
i got his shit for $12
September 20th, 2009 at 4:31 am
its funny how people are talkin bad on him for wanting to help people in these tough times by lowering the cost of his tunes. his album is worth way more than any album ive bought in the last couple years.whether it sells big or not its a classic if you know what hes talkin bout
September 20th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
why how many ppl would pay four dollars for mp3!?!?!?! id rather pay 13 bucks for the hardcopy(which i did) than 4 dollars for a bunch of “music files”!!!!

Kid Cudi selling his album for $4 is sayin how much he loves his fans… cuz that album is beyond great… I bought the deluxe album even after i had downloaded the album online weeks prior to it comining out
September 20th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
Kid cudi album is a absolute classic. Its worth more than what this says for sales. He has a great team behind him and I believe he’ll do just fine with sales. 120k 1st week is good for new artists. Mind u asher roth album has like 157k in total and its been out since april. Cudi is doing just fine plus he has a independent deal and they do get most money from shows and he’s a touring maniac with kanye.

September 21st, 2009 at 6:16 am
it was only 4 dollars for the mp3 from amazon… everywhere else it was “regular” price.. that’s like saying outlets that offer dvd’s and other bonus material are jerkin’ numbers… GTFOH

There are tons of albums for $4 on the new music download store http://us.7digital.com but I think the sale ends December 1st. Go there now!
