Higher or lower than your expectations? Jay-Z’s last album, “American Gangster,” sold 425,861 copies in its debut week, so in these turbulent times Jay-Z stays consistent. In other news Raekwon’s, “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Pt. 2,” debuts with 68,000 records sold.

I gave the album a 8.75/10, based on the production of some the tracks (Timbo’s tracks) but Hov’s overall lyrical flow from start to finish was 10 which made a few of those “ok” produced tracks by Timbo better…

Hater!!!….. That was considered a flop from 50 because he went from selling 12 mil, to 6 mil to 2 mil, Eminem has done the same thing. The game 5 Mil, to 2 Mil to selling oranges on the freeway.
Jay always sells around the same amount… that’s not flopping it’s called consistency. This is why is 11 number one albums. This is why you can argue his success. Jay has had some ups and downs but when it’s all said and done like Jordan no matter what you think of him he is the best.

I was expecting more. This Album is a classic to me. IT’s right below the first Blueprint, & about the same level as Vol 2, & the Black Album, to me when Jay was/is at his best.
This album is the best album of 09′. It’s just like Paper Trail from last year in alotta ways. The best rap album of the year with crazy callabos & superb prodution from the top MC’s.
(((((((((((((Callabo with Rihanna on each, production from Kanye, & a monster Swizz Beats Callabo, the fact that you can do a video/release about ever song of the album. AND THE FACT THAT BOTH ARE CLEARLY WORTH BUYING & THE PRICE, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. they are so similiar. ))))))))))
Jay always does these numbers. & goes on to Multi-Platinum Success each time. Not to mention it’s on his own label through livenation, so he is getting alot of that paper, as opposed to others.

The best thing on the BP3 was the Cover Art. Other then that zzz. I just want the real music to come back. The real videos with talent. Were are all the talented ppl. Not talent by a put on. In this industry you dont get put on until someone is ready to put you on there are alot of ppl who can rap thats not on. Just like its alot of ppl who can BALL and not in NBA/NFL. Thats just how things go. Far as sells, no one sells that much anymore everyone downloads 476k is close to GOLD (500k) I dont even know what EM sold. But at the end of the day who cares what it sold it couldn’t of sold a damn thing but look how many ppl hurd it and pralee got it. Point is album sells don’t matter. What matters is who hears the music. Its plenty of ways to hear music without buying it. Hints Myspace, Soundclick, Youtube, ETC none of those sites cost a dime and you still hear music correct. 8mill in NY alone. If you go plat thats good for your pockets but the Jay is already paid. You get money from shows and etc. This music biz is really diff and shady you just gotta watch it. Best way to do anything is the INDY way. Why are we comparing 50’s numbers to Jay-Z’s numbers?
Jay-Z is consistent, 50 is not.Period.
Jay-Z has to be the most consistent artist in hip hop from a sales stand point….
He nearly went gold in a week..the album by October or end of Nov is 1.5 or if not double play already..which is right up his alley…3X or 4Xs at best..
50 12X, 8X, 2X…not so much although they are nice numbers…..
but if you ask 50 him self he’d rather do 3X all the time..then 12 once and then 8 and then 2…god knows how much his next album is going to sell…then he dropped that G-unit album not too long ago..and that shit sold like 120K or so…so u do that math…anyone with common sense will know Jay-Z doesn’t take many Ls….

I expected Jay to do those numbers because that’s what he does with every album.
As far as 50 Cent goes.the reason his last album was considered a flop is because he went from selling a million copies the first week with The massacre to around 600k with Curtis.
The same logic goes for Jay-z,in fact he did better numbers the first week with this album than he did with the previous one.
And furthermore 50 Cent himself will tell you that a number 1 album is not a flop.

The other fact is 50 sells, popularity, and hits have fell off tremendously and thats FACT! He doesn’t make music for the masses but yet he manages to have mass appeal because he’s just that dude. Jay-Z honestly should be doing numbers like Little Brother and Talib Kweli because that’s really his lane.
He will never make “Ayo Technology” or “We Made You” to attract pop fans. He makes what he wants to make and forces pop to adjust. It’s a shame that people even care about sales, but since they do, it’s a shame people don’t understand what “flop” means. When you take your fat ass to Bear Mountain to go swimming and you get up real high on that diving board and your fat ass jumps off that diving board, when you finally hit the water, you probably “flop”. You can’t “flop” when you do the same numbers year after year. That’s called “consistency”. What it also means is that he KEEPS his core audience. When you sell 6 million one year then sell 2 million the next then THAT is considered a “flop”. You actually LOST 4 million fans. If another 4 million fans are lost then the numbers will be -2 million.

It’s simple mathamatics. Jay-z’s last album sold 425k in the first week this one sold 476k in the fist week thats a 51k increase in sales. An increase can never be a flop. If you made 900 bucks last week and this week you made 600 then your losing money, but if I made 400 last week and this week I made 500 Im gaining more money. A lot of you guys are misled about about a few things:
1) Although a “flop” is really a subjective thing, you have to understand that you can’t compare one album from one artist to another album by another artist and say the other “flopped.” It doesn’t work like that. Flopping is when your previous album does well and then you do don’t do well the following time. The keyword is YOUR. You can’t compare random albums by random artists, especially since they all have varying audiences.
2) ON WHAT PLANET IS 476,000 IN THE FIRST WEEK MEDIOCRE, LET ALONE A FLOP?! People who are saying this clearly don’t know about record sales and the state of the industry today.
3) Piggy Ross, you don’t know what you’re talking about. BP3 was NOT available to download on iTunes until 9/11. I should know because I pre-ordered it week before and it WAS NOT available for download until 9/11. When it was pushed up to 9/8, I searched all over iTunes for 3 DAYS and all I could find was BP3 pre-orders. That Busta & Raekwon Youtube clip made me shake my head because OB4CL2 was available on 9/8 but not BP3. CLEARLY, iTunes were counting pre-orders. If BP3 was, in fact, available on iTunes before 9/11 and and ended up 3rd place in comparison to OB4CL2, then how did BP3 sell 7 times more? That CEARLY doesn’t add up.

anything above 250k can NOT be called a flop from any hiphop-artist in 2009.
and of course, fifty’s 690k of “curtis” were not a flop in 2007. but the album itself was not up to fiddy’s standards. that’s why everybody calls it a flop today. the sales of “curtis” were alright. he sold more than 2.5 million units worldwide of that album.
btw i doubt that fifty will move large numbers in november with bisd (maybe 400k, not more).

why are we comparing bp3 sales to curtis??? curtis didn’t outsell the same weeks hip hop releases the way bp3 did. jay sold nearly 8x more than the other hip hop releases in a SHORT week. i’m not saying sales are the number one deeming factor in hip hop greatness but y’all acting like just last month curtis came out. that was a minute ago, and was it number 1?

Jay-Z is overrated beyond belief. He is consistent. But we are not dealing with averages here.
And how have Eminem’s sales dropped? He has sold MORE than double the number of albums that Jay-Z has with less than HALF the number of albums Jay-Z has released in FEWER time (em appeared 3 years after Jay-Z and then retired for 5 years, compared to Jay’s 3 years off). That’s a 5 year gap.
All you see on the internet is terms like “hot shit”, “fiyah”, “dope”, “classic” thrown around with gleeful abandon by the Hills generation. Truth be told, Jay-Z hasn’t made a “dope” album since the Black Album.
In al honesty, there hasn’t been a good rap album released since Kanye’s 2007 Graduation, and to find the last ‘near-classic’ one would have to go back to 2004 to College Dropout, although Food & Liquor was very good as well.
Everything released thereafter by Jay-Z, Eminem, 50, Nas, Method, has been MEDIOCRE.
So are we celebrating Jay-Z because is the least medicore in the last 5 years? If you are then by all means go ahead. It’s just that other people have higher standards and are waiting for the next Pac, Nas, Big, Em and even Jigga.

U seem not to realize is that each year Artist are selling less and less albums. So when you go back to Curtis there was not as many people getting music how they get it. Hmm come to think this is a recession year, meaning people are spending less (see you probally this a recession is when you NOT supposed to sped money, but you wrong, you SUPPOSED to spend money in a recession to help recover, but thats a different lesson)so instead of buying the album for lets just say $10, they put $10 in the gas tank and download the album for free. Damn you so busy trying to compare numbers between 2 years of bootlegging, people being laid off, gas prices ouncing up and down, that you don’t understand the CORE facts. Yes on the surface you are stating FACTS, but when we look at the cause of your facts, you look dumb cause there is more to it than what you type. No this is NOT the same internet that existed when Curtis came out, there was barely anybody on Twitter and Facebook was just kicking off. But you like tehy, them, he, or she and not giving any details. It’s funny how everyone compares a rappers 4th or 5th album to a veteran’s 11th. For an 11th album to sell over 400k in it’s first week is a HUGE accomplishment.
You cant compare 50’s 3rd album to Jay-Z’s 11th. lol thats the dumbest thing that I’ve ever heard. Mostly all new rappers will sell big with their first 4 or 5 albums (if they make it that far).
50 Cent’s record sales are going down with each album being put out, which means that he’s becoming less and less relevant. Jay Z hasnt gone done in sales over 11 albums. 50 Cent cant stay consistent with only 4!!!
So yea 50 flopped with Curtis because his sales were lower than Massacre, Jay Z’s Blueprint 3 didnt flop, because it stood consistent with his previous album.
And the whole thing of Lil Wayne selling 1 million is the same as Nelly selling over 1 million. The dude is just a commercial rapper with tons of fans. It doesnt make him a good rap artist. Just like Cuban Linx 2 didnt even sell 100k, yet it was one of the best albums in 2009.
Show me another rapper who has more than 10 albums all selling over 400k, and going platinum. When 50 puts out 11 albums all selling over 400k, then he’ll be on Jays level.
The problem is all you dumb, young, faggots who like these new rappers with catchy hooks and shit. Thats not real hiphop, your little nursery ryhming Lil Wayne isnt real hiphop. Lyrically, and production – wise, the Blueprint 3 is an amazing album. Almost every track is great.

we are forgetting a few points with the release of jays bp3. first it was slated for a friday release. which is a very short week and in a effort to combat the heavy bootlegging, roc nation puch the release up that monday before at the last minute. i mean like the day before. and it was not availble on itunes ountil the end of the week. after battling all of these obstacles jay secound week sales held him strong at the number 1 spot with an additional 280k in sale and came a third week with 180k sales. jay then went on to stay in billboards top 10 for 11weeks.
em first week did really well but afterwards he has since disappeared. none of his music could carry the albums sale after its release .
weather you like jay or not you must give props where they are due. Big homie is very consistant. go view all of his sales history . all of his albums has all sold about the same in their first week give or take 100k. expect for kingdom which did over 800k because he had been away for three years. like jay said la la la la hey hey good bye. no one can stand the test of time like him.

Check this out 50 cent’s Before I Self Destruct projected to sell 150000copies week 1 making it number 3/4 on the Billboards.Sorry,like I said before He is done.Even Rick Ross did better in his first week.pls don’t ever compare that crap to Jayz.
