yeah i am a jay fan but this is 3/5. gave it a few listens so it is not first reaction. I’ll cop to complete the trilogy. There are definitely some stand-outs like empire state and the intro track, real as it gets, thank you. For the first time though I actually fast forwarded through Jay’s tracks on his new album. I’m just not excited about it. It lacks cohesiveness. They tried to match the melodies but i’m just not 100% feelin it like bp1 or bp2. Sure this is something new the past in the past but it just doesn’t do it for me. Lupe Fiasco The Cool is still “Cooler” than this (that was lame). I thought for sure this album would replace Lupe or Coldplay but I guess not.

This album is wack. The only good songs on here are “Run This Town” and “So Ambitios” feat. Pharrell. The Pharrell joint goes in!

I LISTENED TO THE WHOLE ALBUM…..and I still have every intention on buying it.

ITS A CLASSIC!!!! CERTIFIED CLASSIC!!!

I’m the biggest Jay fan there is and he even had ME scared with the 5 tracks that leaked. All of those were Timbo songs…he should left that BS off and let Kanye finish the album.

I think he will finally shut Jimmy, Juelz, and Game up w/THIS one!

the first couple of songs i was not feeling, but the backend leeked tracks are HEAT. they made me go relisten to the first couple of songs i didn’t like and now i like them. if u just want to get hit over the head with great tracks this isn’t going to be an album u like. if, like 808’s, u want something to grow on you then this album is FIRE. i will def be buying this album. shout out to albums that actually grow on you and get better with each listen as opposed to a hot song when u first hear it that flames out on the 4th listen.

Listened to the whole album. Not really feeling it, so won’t buy it. Got like four songs I dig on there, the one with Cudi and the intro to be specific, but other than that, it sound like charline born teacher, especially Timbaland’s shit. Yuck

As expected So Ambitious, Neptunes came with that heat, beat/song/lyrics/menaing/hook everything go hard. This song is the sh*t. Wish I had a better car to bump it in LOL…but man I just love it.

That Empire Stateof Mind is ILL, at verse i didn’t like it(i heard it through some crappy laptop speakers) when I got my headphones on…IT WAS FLAMES.

In all honesty this is a damn good album…dudes critique every aspect of each of Hov’s songs ..This album is 1 of the best albums thats gonna come up …Every song offers something different…He cant sound the same on every single track….After a few listens ..this album… grew on me and fuck i think its BANANAZ !!!….and its like someone either hates 1 of his songs…or really likes it…

*********** Classic Album?? Absolutely Not but the Album is Very Good *****************

(to my surprise), its all over Demonoid. it is true growth for Jay and a very different Jay. This is Jay’s version of “The Love Below” or “808’s and Heartbreaks” not that the album sounds like either of those albums but just a different artist as Andre 3000 became and Kanye did on his last album.

Timb’s tracks make a lot more sense when listening to the album as a whole. Again if you are expecting to hear a Jay-Z that you have heard in the past, then forget about it. His wordplay is absolutely ridiculous on this album in almost every song, there are a 3.5 wacks songs on the album w/o question but this is still a good album (again to my surprise)

This album is solid i really dig it its like mature rap, smooth music…its in my opinion very similar to Ye’s Graduation, ive realized after I heard “thank you” that hov was gon let the music be the deal on this album, and his lyrics play second fiddle…he aint spittin top notch bars but who is these days?? He shines on sum songs and on others the music gets it done…the album sounds crazy in the whip…Im giving this a 4/5….this is in my opinion in the middle of his albums far as ranking…anywhere from 5th to 7th…I think its better or equal to Vol. 3

Solid album. Not a classic in my mind, yet – shit hasn’t even it the stores yet and people are already saying it aint a classic… relax! Take it from a guy who grew up with early 90’s hiphop(the best era in my opinion), this is real hip hop. Listen to Venus vs Mars, Young Forever, Brooklyn We Go hard…real lyrics minus gimmicks. Granted this album isn’t timeless but it’s better than anything out right now. Jay’s worst is better that any other MC’s best with the exception of maybe Nas or Eminem. He doesn’t make music for kids under 25 and I appreciate that. He isn’t dumbing down lyrics at all, he’s growing like your ears should.

I gave it 5 good listens and one while sippin on yak so I could zone out. Overall I think Hov concentrated too much on responding to the critics. 1 song to address those things or maybe 2 max would have been fine. Still has enough heat to compare to the rest of artists who have 4 hot songs max. He easily has 6 solid songs. I hit the rewind 3 times on Venus vs Mars. If you get a chance zone out 2 it.

Honestly I Think this Album is a more mature sound for Jay, I Mean ya’ll got to Remember this man is almost 40 he cannot be doing those records he did on the first Blueprint Record. I think this Album is Genious. Is It my favorite Jay Record no. but is it a good album yes. I think its better than Kingdom Come. but as for the sound is something new. I Think Jay has grown so much as an artist and lyricist. there is not any 40 year old rappers that get the respect Hov gets. this was a goood album! those of u who didn’t think so were probly expectin part of the original BP

a few things tho:

1. As Real As It Gets: jus your typical Jeezy record, it’s just on Hov’s album! that’s it, nothin more. he coulda threw Jockin Jay-Z on the album even we’ve all heard it a million times

2. Off That was really all about Jay and Timbo. no need for anotha Lil Wayne copy-cat. Tim put his foot so deep into that beat I couldn’t even hear Drake! which suited me jus fine.

3. A Star is Born: good honest concept. I jus didn’t like the beat. not the pace I’m used to hearin Jay spit

4. Swizzy’s played out. all his records are too clubby and sound the same. Tim’s kinda clubby too but his drums go waaaaaaaay harder

5. Reminder: those creepy-sounding chords, that annoying hook! how fast was Hov tryin to put this out?? this was one o those “fuck it” tracks

Pretty solid album. Some people who’re being excessively critical are probably doing so because this is Jay-Z who is said to be #1 aka who they expect ALOT from because of that. Anyway my top 2 tracks are : Empire State of Mind & D.O.A.

Just watched the concert on Fuse and copped the album today…. BANANAS!!! Lyrically, he’s sick… He goes in on most of the songs… Here’s what I think–people expect to hear that microwave BS that’s on radio right now… Hot beat, catchy chorus, terrible lyrical content. My guess is haters don’t understand his word play… (The ponzi scheme line, the Adrian/Rocky reference, HOV lane, white keys as in kilos, eight balls in corners, I could go on…) I think a lot of younger hip hop fans will miss these kinds of references because they don’t know what he’s talking about. He SMASHED the album… Production was decent–he’s evolving from a rapper into an artist…. He’s not just trying for street anthems–he wants to create work that will stand the test of time… Every time I listen, I catch something new… I love that… The key is to actually listen and to be intelligent enough to understand the references… Poor haters… Get your books up…

This album is not as good as BP1 but you cannot deny that it is one this is good work. A few of the songs should be on everyones play list.

But I watched the concert and I was rocking to some songs, and I realized those hot joints were from BP3, so I had to give the album another listen lol. After hearing it a few more times its definitely a solid album. It’s obvious that Jay is moving in another direction with his music and subject matter. The album is pretty well put together in my opinion and there are a lot of good songs on it. I suggest giving the album a few more listens before coming up with a final opinion on it.

Empire State OF mind When ITs all said and done goes down as one if not the greatest songs jay has ever droped.Nobody in this game has a track reppin there city with that type of emiotion and we talkin about the birthplace of hip hop. oh and this album is crack jay-z has evolved into the greatest rapper of my generation on this one and dont get me wrong some niggas is still getting it in but its crazy how this nigga stays relevant as a fan of his i keep waiting for him 2 get wack just like all my other fav rappers (well not wack but out of style) and he keeps killin it. I luv cuban linx 2 and think its good 4 hip hop but 68,000 ist week shows me that these young kids cant relate. now 476,000 is not amili like wayne but compared 2 the niggas jay came up wit his peers(wu-tang,nas,mobb deep,outkast,redman,etc…90’s era)he can still pack a punch EMINEM is the only one who has achace of keeping up.

well i think his street singles were way better then the whole ablum but it wasnt a complete failure it reminds me of carter 3 hyped to be a classic but we know the artist could do better.

BP3 is hip-hop at its best. I love his flow, the art of his storytelling, and his passion for REAL hip-hop. Empire State of Mind is a classic. Hate him or love him, Jay-Z is that dude.
