# 1: What do features have to do with Jay Z’s lyrics. Looking at these features, it looks like most of them will be for his hooks only. Which is a good thing.

Agreed. LOL. I think Kingdom Come was way better than BP2. And Hov gets shuned for all the guest features. But people say that he should be putting these guys on. Makes no sense to me. Hov is in the position now more than ever where he can help make he next superstars in hip hop. Maybe people just cant stand that Hov has reached where their favorite artist probably never will reach… aka Game. LOL. But is funny how now that Hov done put the Drakes and Kudis on his album it makes him seem “desperate” or “trying to stay relevent”. Niggaz dont get it. Hov is timeless. All the other guest features are from talented artists; something Pharell is not.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big N*E*R*D* fan but, let’s face it, Pharell should stay behind the boards at all times; dude can’t sing OR rap. I don’t know why Jay insists on using him so often.
I’m also a bit disappointed we have no Just Blaze tracks on here. I can do without Dr. Dre (after all, the only album Jay used a lot of Dre beats was Kingdom come and we all know how that one turned out; they just don’t have great chemistry in my opinion) but Blaze has produced some of Jay’s best tracks so it’s surprising not to see him hear.
I look forward to hearing what Timbo has to offer as well. Hopefully we’ll be hearing the next “Big Pimpin’”
P.S. BP II wasn’t so terrible. It’s one of Jay’s weaker album, granted, but, on anyone elses catalog, it’s a pretty decent entry; the title track, “Guns N Roses”, “U Don’t Know II”, “A Dream”, “Watcher II”, “Bonnie & Clyde” and “Diamond are Forever” are all bangers.
Pharrell is probably only gonna be on the hook. You can’t deny he makes good hooks. Don’t worry, that track is gonna be fire.
Ummmmmmm, this tracklist is iffy my nig. Jay-Z said it himself on “Addicted To The Game”, “Sort of like a Rubik’s Cube is, every album’s a color, but, I fuck up the other … color”. Yes, like B-Work (NOTE: Excuse the cocaine reference … lol), Jay-Z basically has a 1-to-1 ratio for strong albums. I liked “American Gangster”, so I’m hoping that he breaks the trend here and delivers a strong record this time out yo.
With regard to the homie Young Vito putting on new artists, I understand knocking out the obligatory record with his artist J. Cole (although I aint trying to hear that this nigga is the “future” … when did mediocre become the new good and good become the new great?), but, Kid Cudi? Cut it out. What is this, a duet album?
I realize what son is trying to do – he’s expanding the boundaries of Hip Hop and that’s what’s needed. However, you don’t do that by putting every current “flavor of the month” rapper all over your new record. This line up is too predictable. Where’s the MGMT record? You wanna fuck the game up? Do a record with DJ Premier. Nah, even better, take it all the way back and a track from my nigga DJ Clark Kent OR Ski!
Look, I’m an O.G. to this NYC Hip Hop shit and I expect alot from Jay-Z … there aint too many solid artists left @ the mainstream level of this culture that we love and I just want to hear his best work.
