A Rapper Gets Sentenced To 2 Years For Song Entitled, “Kill Me A Cop”
Florida rapper Antavio Johnson has been sentenced to two years in prison for his song “Kill Me a Cop”, which he produced as a teenager.
Johnson wrote the song in response to harassment he received from two Florida police officers. In the song, Johnson specifically mentions the two officers – one male and one female – by name, saying they would be shot with a “glock” in the “dome” if they “get my timing wrong.”
Naming two officers specifically guaranteed him some jail time, but damn 2 years? Do you think the punishment fits the crime?

All he had to do was not mention names, before that it would have been freedom of speech, but after he said names it became a threat and that’s how he got jail time. I agree with post #30. (sipdown)….Had he just made a song about killing white folk, then it’d be equivalent to the white supremacist music…meaning they are both free speech.
When you mention killing anyone by name, then it becomes criminal threat and/or assault (different in different states). Now if he had a clean record or a bunch of misdemeanors, then ya I’d say give him a few months. But if he already had a record, and then you threaten a cop by name, you’re gonna get time. Like it or not, you get more time when you direct your actions at cops. Cops are supposed to have thicker skin, but its why they have laws like Battery vs. Battery on an LEO. Because if the law were to let you threaten cops outright by name, then no one would take that cop seriously. It just escalates from there then….

Don’t take any action at all-whether it’s filing a police report or making sure to have your own heat? Is that just word play then?
