Should People Cry Over The Death Of A Celebrity They Don’t Know?
I hear what the guy is saying, I do find it weird how people cry over the deaths of people they never knew or met. In the case of Michael Jackson, a lot of people had an emotional connection to his music and grew up inspired by him. So I can understand people crying over his death. To say they need to,”Get A Life,” is harsh but the man is entitled to his opinion.
What are your thoughts on what he had to say and did you shed a tear over Michael Jackon’s passing?

July 8th, 2009 at 11:08 am
i definitely shed a tear over his death b/c he did more than sing and dance. TRUE his music helped make up the soundtrack to my life. BUT he also helped me understand much more through his philanthropic practices.
especially when he helped shed light on HIV/AIDS during the Ryan White situation. B/c growing up in the 80’s HIV/AIDS was so far removed and scary and when MJ brought Ryan White to the forefront and still embraced him, i couldn’t help but grow up w/o having some sort of negative view on “those people” that contracted the disease. HIV/AIDS was around my whole life but for my parents generation, they were just under the perception it was a homosexual disease and for Michael to show a kid about 10-15 yrs older than me being discriminated against, it really made me have a softer view.
July 8th, 2009 at 11:09 am
i agree.
July 8th, 2009 at 11:17 am
I didnt even view the clip but I dont agree with what this ignoramis, but emotions make you react how you react,I think the black community all felt connected to M J and he inspired the whole music industry.
July 8th, 2009 at 11:19 am
A lot of people over here in England cried when Princess Diana died. If the celebrity touched or inspired you in some way you’re likely to cry when you hear about their death or watch their funeral live. It’s even worse when the celebrity didn’t die a natural death. In the case of Princess Diana, she was killed in a car crash when the driver was fleeing from paparazzi. Her death could have been easily avoided and she was a very good person. I didn’t cry, but a lot of people did and I can see why.
July 8th, 2009 at 11:22 am
I bawled like a dawg
July 8th, 2009 at 11:26 am
this guy is an idiot. MJ effected everyone with his music, he cant compare it to other people that have passed away that no one knows….. dont get me wrong i know some people care about them but, MJ effected millions, maybe even billions of people.
July 8th, 2009 at 11:29 am
Cry if u want… But to those that commited suicide over dude, yall buggn
July 8th, 2009 at 11:38 am
The problem is alot of people dont have meaning in their own life thats why they make comments like that. This guy is a jackass and if he can’t see that MJ brought the WORLD together with his music, then his ass is lost. But hey like you say, everyone is entitled to an opinion. Different people are affected in their own ways. Too bad he’s so closed off.
July 8th, 2009 at 11:48 am
LOLZ SHIT DON’T BLAME MICHAEL JACKSON FOR B’N A GOOD SINGER AND B’N A GOOD DANCER AND BEING SO FAMOUS AND DONE DIED
WITH A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOWING WHO HE WAZ AND EVEN THOUGH DEY NEVER MET HIM DEY FELT LIKE DEY HAD MET HIM CUZ HIS MUSIC AND SOUL DONE TOUCH A LOT OF PEOPLE ALL AROUND THA WORLD AND DAT IS WHY DEY R CRYING OVER HIS DEATH AND THAT’S JUST COMMON SENSE!!!
July 8th, 2009 at 12:15 pm
LOL @ #2 Tango; you are more of an “ignoramis” (which you spelled wrong, it is spelled ignoramus) for leaving a comment without viewing the clip….u must be 12 yrs old….
Donny makes sense in what he says……its the truth….
July 8th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
Obviously MILLIONS and MILLIONS of people from ALL OVER THE WORLD were interested and wanted to show their respects to Michael Jackson so the media had an obligation to cover it. No one has to explain or justify the universal love, and respect for Michael Jackson to this arrogant, low-life, envious asshole. He should compare his charity record to that of the late great Michael Jackson’s and see what the fuck he’s done for anyone other than himself!! Then maybe this asswipe will get a very clear understanding as to why people who had never met Michael Jackson felt so connected and overwhelmed with emotions that were in tears and mourned his death all over the world…. by the hundreds of millions. R.I.P. Michael
July 8th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
Its not only the person, whether you know them or not. It is about the way they died. Sudden death can and will bring you to tears.
July 8th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
AHA,ANOTHER WHITE MAN TRYING TO TALK SLICK ABOUT MICHAEL AND THE PEOPLE WHO SUPPORTED HIM?
IT FIGURES,THE ONLY IDOL THEY EVER HAD STUFFED HIS FACE WITH PORK CHOPS AND COCAINE UNTIL HE DIED.
July 8th, 2009 at 12:50 pm
Yeah I am beginning to sense a trend too… A lotta right wing white men just don’t get it and so for make disparaging remarks about the this great entertainer…the real G.O.A.T. he was a lot more than A singer and a Dancer…. he was a great singer, great dancer, great innovator, great humanitarian, great philanthropist…agent of change…This Dude should change his name to Donny Douche bag!!
July 8th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
People are different but in general I think it’s crazy when fans cry because a celeb is dead. We live in such a celeb obsessed world so I’m not surprised though, but it’s crazy to see so many everyday people crying everytime a celeb dies. Some even cries more over a celeb than if a family member dies.
Another thing that is crazy is when girls cry everytime they go to a concert and see their favorite artist. Why on earth are girls crying when they get to see someone on TV they like?
July 8th, 2009 at 1:06 pm
It’s funny how these fuckin cracker pigs are so annoyed wit all the love MJ is getting. When Heath legar, princess diana, Cobain, and Anna nicole smith passed people were allowed to mourn however they wanted without media scrutiny. Now that MJ has passed these pigs are all so disgusted with public’s reaction. WOW!!!
July 8th, 2009 at 1:08 pm
1st off this guy is full of BS! crying over someones passing is a normal human reaction, especially when its someone who has touched your heart or inspired you in some way. I would like to know what was HIS reaction when Princess Diana died? or when President Regan passed? These bootleg anal therapist and society analyst are dealing with everything that is learned in a book, when they need to find and research why society as a whole is heartless, with no human compassion or remorse! Next he’ll be saying you shouldn’t worship GOD because you can’t see him! His opinion does make points but he’s appealing to people like they don’t have common sense. Bottom line he needs to get a life instead of going on TV trying to get his 15 mins of celeb fame, he ain’t slick!
July 8th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
He didnt listen to MJ’s music. His wife left him over that, thats why he salty.
July 8th, 2009 at 1:20 pm
music touches our soul and becomes part of our life experience in profound ways. to listening to songs while in love or breaking up or on the radio coming home from work or whatever, it is ingrained in us…what does this guy do…advertise? spread greed an consumption? i think people cried because that spirit was gone that bought so much joy. i mean people cried over elvis and john lennon…why not mj? he is an entertainer that spanned generations and racial boundries. the white media picked this man apart while he was alive and i am not surprised that they are doing it now…he is gone let him rest in peace and leave his legacy alone.
July 8th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
I mean i didnt particarly care anymore than if it was a random person that i heard of on the news, may b thats what he trying to say, it is a lot of mourning going onto to one person, it was time to move on 4 days ago
July 8th, 2009 at 1:33 pm
its sad when ppl put more pressure & attention on a celebrity than focus on GOD… i hear ppl justify 4 their mistakes sayin he’s not wacko jacko but i remember wat was sd, or he sex bubbles or wateva thought popped up when suckaz thought he was a molester… its sad real sad.. why didnt u cry when he was breathing & goin thru motions of life. did u foolz cry when big got shot or pac for that matter.. at da end of da day its retarded 4 pplz point of views… read a book and expand ya mindz…
mike lived his life. err body dat passed on lived there life.. jus keep prayin 4 the ppl on earth cuz they made it where we tryin 2 go
July 8th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
i shed a tear, fukk it, it was MJ…people cried for MLK, JFK, Malcolm X, John Lennon, etc. and didn’t know them either, so I don’t wanna hear that shit. In Mike Jackson’s case, people of all nationalities and religions mourned him so in that light he is bigger then Christ {no blasphemy}
July 8th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
the “get a life” comment may be a bit harsh, but I completely agree nonetheless….
July 8th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
peopled cried 4 those mention but in a different light… careful wat u say youngin… u havent graduated 2 that level yet… mourning, u need 2 really study dolla, ya knowledge is the lack of americans err where. u prolly shed a tear when u fart… if u mourn where is that person? google.com can answer dat if u slow… back 2 bizzness… no one is bigger than CHRIST…. U R FULL OF COW SHIT CUZ THOSE WASNT STEAKS
July 8th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
He made your parents dance, love and cry tears of happiness. Anyone who can bring upon sincere emotion, someone that can make my mother cry, someone she has never met… that person deserves a send off greater than any fake world leader who at one point in his career had to probably put aside his own values to get there. The reason kids my age and younger, kids who didn’t even get to witness Mike as a black man cried tears was simply because that man touched the generations before us and are parents hearts were so impacted that it carried on threw us. What I would like people to look at is not how much attention we showed him when he died, but how much we showed him when he was alive. Ask yourself if “the world” the very people who he sang and urned for unity between, ask if this world treated him right? Imagine he was your child!(pause) Imagine he was your brother(pause) Imagine if he was your family(pause) MJ didnt even have to give us music, but he did in doing so we ended up taking his life.
The world will live on forever far past 2012, It is the behavior of ourselves that will wipe us from this planet. MJ will no longer need the moon to walk, earth will be Michael’s moon to walk on.
July 8th, 2009 at 1:58 pm
people don’t even cry that much for their own blood… yeah he inspired a lot of people, one can be sad about that but all of the attention from the media is just insane.. pay your respects to the man and let him rest.. you got your own life to live and just live it to the fullest
July 8th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
could not agree with donny anymore. rip mj. but come on people.. come on listen to what the man is saying he aint bad mouthing mj but hes making a real point about a real situation and it makes us look a little strange for how we all reacted to this whole situation.
July 8th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
this really gets me upset because here it is that the man is saying all he did was music, now I am a micheal Jackson fan, but I do not agree with the crazy things he have done in his life. But how many times in his music has he address world wide issuses how many times has he raise money for the not so fortunite. No matter how much people mad fun of him he was always micheal. for this guy to say get a life, why say that most people grew up with him on the tv, the first song any young child would memorize i put $100.00 is one of micheal jacksons or the jackson 5 song. I disagree with little momma but this man need to get a life.
July 8th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
I love how white boy keeps saying that he was just a good singer, dancer and entertainer. If we base this on sales than:
-He is the greatest recording artist ever
-He is the greatest entertainer ever (highest grossing tours)
Not one of the best but THE BEST. This is just like when people say tiger woods is one of the best golfers no he is THE BEST golfer.
Not to mention that MJ holds the record of most support gives to charitys by a entertainer.
But why do people keep ignoring that he was the first black artist on MTV, that alone made a huge impact.
July 8th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
ppl mad froggy now… did u open up 2 ya environment… its not hard 2 do a lil work… for ya community.. u play da hustler role jus put 2getha a picnic 2 raise money, help clean up ya town… theres many thangz u can do…. mike did his thing but sum1 wuz always there givin him a thumbs up or down… i.e an accountant or a business partner…
July 8th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
man i agree somewhat only beacuse i thought the family shoudl have kept the whoel affair private, first off mj has been the brunt of many ppl’s jokes, same ppl that now want to tattoo his pics to themselves or wear his shirts i think thats very hypocritical…yall need to chillax on the overdose of emotion , everyone has to die….be it now or later…nothing is permanent, he lefta legacy …that will live on forever …jus remember him for his music …no human shall be raised on pedestal, we are all on level ground….he fulfilled his destiny…more ppl need to fulfil theirs
July 8th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
THE PROPORTION OF MJ CELEBRATION WAS DETERMINED BY THE PEOPLE WHO LOVED HIM.
WHY EVEN DISCUSS HOW PEOPLE FEEL ABOUT LOSING SOMEONE.
IF HE DID NOT FEEL ANY CONNECTION WITH MJ THAT HIS BUSINESS.
I UNDERSTAND MEDIA IS A BUSINESS AND THEY TEND TO HYPE THINGS UP BUT IT IS THE POEPLE WHO WHO GAVE THE TONE.
MJ FOREVER

DAAM WHY PEOPLE ALWAYS HAVE TO SAY SMTH ABOUT THE NEXT PERSON’S WAY?
LIVE IT HOW U WANT IT BUT THEN LET OTHERS LIVE IT THEIR WAY!
TALKING “THE FAMILY SHOULD HAVE..” WHAT THE FUCK YOU KNOW WHAT THE FAMILY SHOULD OR SHOULD NOT HAVE DONE?…
ARE THE PEOPLE WHO CLOWNED MJ WHEN HE WAS ALIVE THE ONES WE SHOULD CARE ABOUT WHEN DEALING WITH HIS DEATH? OR SHOULD WE FOCUS MORE ON THE ONE WHO REALLY LOVED THE MAN AND HIS WORK?
A PUBLIC MEMORIAL WAS OBVIOUSLY A WAY TO SHARE THE LOSS WITH ALL THE PEOPLE WHO WERE TOUCHED IN THEIR LIVES BY MJ AND LOVED HIM.
SMH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate to be racial, BUT isnt it odd that the only ppl who have a problem with all this Love MJ’s been getting are White people in the media. This guy, Nancy Grace, Bill O’Riely etc…Hmm! I think its because, its showing that Internationally, Michael was THE MOST LOVED & MOST INFLUENTIAL/INSPIRING/RESPECTED ARTIST! Yes White folks, He’s a bigger INTERNATINAL STAR than Elvis & Britney Spears LOL! And he’s REALLY BLACK! We as African-Americans knew that for YEARS, White people tried to play him but when they saw him sell-out his London shows in a matter of minutes, they couldnt deny that he was still relevent, FUCK THAT, He was still a Living Legend!
YES, White people, Michael was not ONE OF THE BEST, HE WAS THEE BEST, HE WAS THE KING HE WAS THE GREATEST, AND YALL CANT DENY IT NO LONGER, THE PROOF IS RIGHT BEFORE YOUR EYES AND THEY CANT TAKE IT!!!
July 8th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
White people like to kiss their dogs in the mouth.
Why is that?

lol@ almost every comment in here being racist when the video has nothing to do with him being racist. more of him giving his opinion..unless i missed the part where he said “nobody should cry for this nigger” yall need to check yaselfs real quick.
it seems to be on the norm when someone dies you mourn a little. shows you have a heart..but its out of wack when your acting like you just lost ya best friend. i mean come on now people. nobody has talked about MJ for like the past 14 years. dont stunt like you just got off the phone with him and he died.
but its one mans opinion on something he cant relate to, so just leave him at that..if he started crying and was sad as hell and made a big deal about billy mays’s death i bet most of yall would be like “wtf? its billy mays..he did commercials and shit..
come on guys…he dont relate..so leave em…
July 8th, 2009 at 4:45 pm
i mean hey i didnt know the man but i liked his music and i cried from just watching the service i mean the music touched me and then seeing his lil girl i mean i cried i mean shit when something touches u it jus does u aint had to know the man but that memorial touched me …
July 8th, 2009 at 4:48 pm
How can you call out white people and then justify it by saying he was so loved internationally??? did you mean white americans? then please say so, coz this ish was ignorant!!!
by the way….. if you are a racist and think in colours…. MICHAEL JACKSON DID NOT LIKE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Actually he hated people like you… lol
July 8th, 2009 at 5:16 pm
I wonder when people judge and make comments about how someone should feel emotionally if it’s coming from a place of jealousy. People are so negative, just because you don’t feel connected in any way dosn’t mean everyone else should feel the way you do. R.I.P MJ i love u.
July 8th, 2009 at 5:21 pm
@MO #42
My bad, I was talking about people like Bill O’Reily & the typical White people in the media making him out to be a bad guy! Not all white ppl. I made myself more clear. My bad!
July 8th, 2009 at 5:45 pm
I think everyone got good points, but I’m have to agree wit #7 – “Cry if u want, but to those that committed suicide over dude, ya’ll buggin”
Granted M.J. was a legend in his own right, and true THE MEDIA, like anything, is gonna do whatever, but goddamn do you have to commit suicide tho? Do you have to take it that far? Shiyt, i’ll cry for them!!!
July 8th, 2009 at 6:17 pm
HOW COULD YOU POSSIBLY SAY MUSIC DOESNT CHANGE LIVES??? HE LOST ALL (IF ANY) CREDIBILITY HE COULD HAVE HAD ON THE SUBJECT THE SECOND THOSE WORDS CAME OUT OF HIS MOUTH.
July 8th, 2009 at 6:19 pm
I can’t see God but i talk to him and i love him, but most importantly i know he’s there because i feel his presence everyday. we all communicate and feel eachother in different ways.
July 8th, 2009 at 6:23 pm
I understand the part about the people who put their life on the line & save lifes! But Michael Jackson did that through his music! He was a Great singer & danncer but he didn’t just sing & dance he had a message in his music which helped people also! Some messages helped people change their lifes or the way they live their lifes! You know how many Racist groups problably wanted to kill him when he smashed the windows with their names & symbols on it! He also insprired people to be an entertainer like him! MUSIC IS INTERNATIONAL! He was popular he touched more then just people in 1 country! He touched people in many countries! People that save lives & put theirs on the line do deserve alot of credit, (BUT) how many of them are broadcatsed on tv & inspire people at a fast rate like music does? Plus michael was the most popular entertainer who put inspiring messages in his songs! THERE IS ONLY 1 MICHAEL JACKSON BUT MANY DOCTORS & WAR HEROS! He was 1 of a kind doctors & war heroes are 1 of many!
July 8th, 2009 at 6:32 pm
When some one is an inspiration in your life (no matter who it is) if they play a role in how you live your life or how you turn your life around you will have a connection with that person! Weather good or bad inspiration (IN THIS CASE GOOD)When that person passes you will feel like you lost some one clouse or a lil part of you! I don’t know what way he think we lost! Either deep down in side he doesn’t like Michael for some reason or deep down inside he’s racist or he never had an inspirational person in his life or he just never took the time to really analyze & try to understand why people might feel the way they do about him!

You don’t have to know some one to be touched by them! Plus people emotions are different! they cry from different things! Cause we all feel different ways! Most people cry when death strikes, some people don’t cry, & some just don’t care about it if they arent clouse to you! But his music united people & brought people closer to him by expressing his feelings cause alot of people felt some of the same feelings he felt! Somebody tell him that it’s Human Nature shyt! lol
July 8th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
i’d like to see how much money he’s given away to help important causes!!!!!!!!!
on a sidenote to single out M.J.’s death as “having too much coverage” is a bit harsh considering the man is already gone and his family is currently grieving. I dont think there can ever be enough celebration after a person such as that has passed away. What this idiot doesnt understand is that michael was more than just a singer and a dancer, he achieved alot of things that most people dont get to do their entire life. Deep down inside he wishes he could have an impact such as that on the entire world.
P.S. Dont’ get mad at the fans for celebrating! you can’t someone how they should feel!! thats just insane.
July 9th, 2009 at 9:46 am
I cried and I am STILL crying, MJ was a part of my life since I was four years old, I watched him grow into a man and become the biggest star the world has ever seen. Even though he acheived these goals, he was a troubled soul and he died tragically. It is sad and people had a connection with Mike. We have been seeing him most of our life and we never thought he would die so young. When I hear his songs, it takes me right back to the time the song was out and I heard it everywhere i went. I am a dancer and every time i watched this man dance it did something to me. He was so exciting! I am going to really miss him and I did not realize how much of an impact he had on me until he passed. He broke mad barriers and even white people talk about how they grew up on Mike. It’s the end of an era and I am just glad I was here to witness him go from a child superstar to the greatest of all time…..RIP MJ, you live on in my heart.
July 18th, 2009 at 6:28 pm
The man mad because aint nobody crying over his insecure ass! You get a life and get off michael dick!
