BET Bans Willy Northpole’s, “#1 Side Chick”

Northpole’s manager, Tiffany Johnson, says BET didn’t like how the video portrays a man in a relationship with two women. Johnson says there’s no anger in Northpole’s camp toward BET, but the channel’s decision “Kind of hurt, because they’ve shown a lot worse,” she says. “I don’t know how they can say we’re portraying something unwholesome, because the video ends with the man marrying one of the women. I feel our video is tasteful. We were kind of offended. My first thought was ‘Every Girl in the World’ can get played, and we can’t?”

First off I think that if BET showed a pig eating its own shit, it would be an upgrade from what they already show.
Despite if you disagree with what the song and video display, its a reality and he is telling a story, I don’t think there is a part in the song where he urges all black people to do what he does. You have to trust that your audience is mature enough to make that decision on their own, otherwise you are failing to acknowledge that black people are independent from their televisions.
As far as young audiences (under 18) thats the parents’ responsibility to restrict what they can and can’t watch, not the network’s.

I remember earlier in the year when Jadakiss’ album came out and Terrance and Rocsi were asking him and Nas what 106 & Park means to hip hop, and Nas started laughing, then ended up giving some bullshit answer, and Jada didn’t laugh, but he gave a bullshit answer as well. I cant take this seriously… this is the same station that instead of some type of educational leveling with the movies and music shown, in ignorant amounts, BET makes a mockery of what black america should represent…..

I agree with just about everything Napolean stated. The timing of the release of the video was off! Even though realistically the video dropped about a week prior to McNair’s slaying. Debra Lee should step down because it’s true she is out of touch. BET needs to hire a bunch of young college educated minds (22-30) lock them in a room and come up with some new shows. Because BET only has a few original shows. They keep repeating old sitcoms and movies, that’s not cutting it. BET needs to get some new cameras, they overall picture quality fails in comparison to MTV.
As for the question at hand that was a biased decision! And because this is America I would have my lawyers cook up a civil suit on the grounds that other similar videos are being played. Even though the video is as distasteful as some of the other foolery, but BET would take a major p.r. hit with a long dragged out trial and they may want to settle. Easy come up for Willy!
