Michael Jackson Breaks Billboard Charts Records

Based on preliminary sales numbers from Nielsen SoundScan, the entire top nine positions on Billboard’s Top Pop Catalog Albums chart will house Jackson-related titles when the tally is released in the early morning on Wednesday, July 1. Nielsen SoundScan’s sales tracking week ended at the close of business on Sunday (June 28) night.
The King of Pop’s “Number Ones” will fittingly lead the pack at No. 1 with 108,000 copies (an increase of 2,340%) while “The Essential Michael Jackson” and “Thriller” are in the Nos. 2 and 3 slots with 102,000 and 101,000, respectively. Last week, “Number Ones” was the only Jackson title on the chart, at No. 20 with 4,000 copies; both “Essential” and “Thriller” re-enter the tally this week.

Michael Jackson’s music is timeless, so I’m not surprised that he has took over the charts.

Oh that’s what’s up, I didn’t even think about copping his albums or that they would be selling, duh.
His fans are incredible, he is just the best

I also think it is great how the ticket promoters for the London tour opted to give full refunds, or have ticket holders keep the tickets as souvenirs

I never thought about it like that!

i wish I could remember the P quote where he said somethinbout dying and the radio playin his music like they loved him!!!
Mike is an incredible artist but his death generated billions… who’s cashin in!?
I got a new respect for the haters though I gotta give it to the people who maintained the same in his death as they did while he was alive!
July 1st, 2009 at 6:11 am
Lmao 2cents. People do seem to be milking his death huh? (BET for ratings) Lol. Just kidding
July 1st, 2009 at 6:15 am
His fans will remain loyal though, throughout it all. Can you believe it (Styles P ft. Akon) though?

Just sad.
July 1st, 2009 at 6:57 am
to be honest i thought he would sell alot more.
c’mon ppl we tryna make thriller go diamond again
July 1st, 2009 at 6:57 am
damn this means he is over 1 billion records is he the first person to ever sell a billion records cuz he will more than likely be the last person to do so
July 1st, 2009 at 8:55 am
more than likely be the last person to do so???
He is the ONLY!!! person that will achieve that. Meaning it can NEVER!!!!! be duplicated or done by another artist. Eminem, Elvis, and the Rollingstones record sales look double aluminum compared to what Mike Jackson has sold over his lifetime.

i feel bad for anyone releasing an album this month
July 1st, 2009 at 11:31 am
I didn’t need to rush out and buy an album or a dvd b/c i’ve always had them and there was NOOO shame.. i knew MJ was gangsta when I could blast his CD and EVERYONE would start piling in my dorm room dancing!! I had the Jackson 5 anthology and that box set is tough. My mom used to clean the house on the weekends bumping Motown so I just grew up appreciating real talent.
The one thing I realized is that there are few artist that make a total album you wanna listen to, they may have a few hot records but the total package has escaped them. I bet if artist focused more on the whole album and less on the hot ringtone or single, they’d have more longevity in their career and more total album sales. They definitely have more concert dates and larger venues b/c no one wants to go to your concert if you have one hot song.

co-sign #12….anybody who drops an album now will flop.
MJ still killing it! MJ already sold 750 MILLIONS!! Imagine if he sells another 250 millions, that would make A FUCKING BILLION ALBUMS SOLD!!! THAT WOULD BE CRAZY LOL
R.I.P To The King

Everytime an artist dies he’ll sell a lot of records. MJ is a legend though and has made timeless music so obviously he’s going to sell even more than the average artist. He was anamazing artist but unfortunately he was a very lonely and sad individual with identity issues.
July 1st, 2009 at 12:26 pm
When legends dies they sell albums like a mothafucka. Elvis sold like a mothafucka. I think Michael is going to do similar numbers.
July 1st, 2009 at 12:38 pm
He’s definitely gonna sell a billion b/c the beatles still sell and i think last year had a number one album… he’s gonna be selling records ’til the end of time. His stuff is timeless, it’s something that’s only relevant for the moment. I’m not naming artists but we know who they are.. you will not be bumping [fill in the blank here] twenty years from now.
July 1st, 2009 at 12:39 pm
*i meant it’s NOT something that’s only relevant for the moment
July 1st, 2009 at 1:04 pm
@ for real-I’m with u, i did not have to buy anything either, i already had it. He was the greatest that’s it and that’s all I am gonna really miss him.

I think it is sad that it takes his death for some people to realize how great of a singer/dancer/performer this guy was. His death and all this media attention will spark new interest in his music from younger kids who never had the chance to witness his greatness.
I am 20… MJ has been my favorite singer for as far back as I can remember. Even got the vinyl records.
July 1st, 2009 at 10:08 pm
I was 10 years old when his Off The Wall album came out. I remember my brother listening to that album over and over. That has to be my favorite album to be honest. I came from a family of 6 and I was the youngest and I would pretend that we were like the Jackson Five. Truthfully I have to admit that after the 80’s (and those were my teenage years) I really didn’t pay too much attention to Michael and his music. I don’t know why either. Maybe it was just having a family and growing older that my life took on a different precedence. Now that I’m forty and listening to his music play on all the tv shows and on the news it has really brought me back. It is truly very sad knowing that we won’t hear his voice singing new songs ever again. Unless of course they release any singles that he was working on. I will always wonder now, what he would’ve looked like or been like twenty years from now. RIP Michael, you put your soul in your music and for this you will always live on forever.

The KING!!!
July 3rd, 2009 at 3:20 am
Heh, MJ will be back every two years with new albums, just like Tupac.
July 3rd, 2009 at 3:22 am
And you know what, it will definitely happen. He left over 200 songs for his kids to make sure they’ll be taken care of the rest of their lives. 200 songs. That’s 10 albums right there.
1billion copies? Pfft, Make it 2 billion!
July 4th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
Michael Jackson was one of the greatest artists of all time, no doubt, but he is nowhere close to selling a billion records, or even 500 million records. Wikipedia says 750 million, but its only sources are interviews with Jackson. It’s not possible. His biggest record, Thriller, sold 28 million in the US, according the RIAA. There is no way to track what it has sold overseas, but it would be very surprising if it sold more than 2x the US number, which would put it at about 100 million. Even if you applied the same standard to all his other albums, and assumed the 20 top singles from those albums sold 5 million each (which they didn’t) that’s only about 300 million, still a long way to go to one billion.

I’m so in love with MJ! I just lov’em, lov’em, lov’em!!! My biggest dream was for MJ to cum all over my face. Does anyone want to fill in for him???
