In principle college is a great thing but in reality its all about money in this society and if you can make a few hundred grand without going into debt (student loans/interest) then its a good move! @ the end of the day whether you go to college or jus go to the library you have to make sure you have the info you need to suceed though!

  2. left Says:

    i agree

  3. Glitterati_Duane Says:

A degree isn’t a guarantee of success. After you get your education you still have to hustle. A degree is just a way to open doors for POTENTIAL success. The rest is hard work and luck. Like Russell said… Not everyone can be Irv Gotti.

  4. Mo Says:

How many Irv Gottis, Jay-Z’s, Puff’s are there…lol that should answer irvs question.

  5. 2Words, Swallow it Says:

    #1 is right.

  6. noelle Says:

Right on 2cents. College is just a very good base, but not all people need it. Especially guys

  7. Mo Says:

#1 is right to a degree. If you have a degree is easier to get a job, if you’re prepared to get a job. Some people go to college and are under the impression that because of that degree, that guarantees them a decent job. EHH! WRONG!.lol. Nothing is guaranteed. Is alot harder to make money without a degree, the ratio of the amount of chances you take vs the result you’re getting – - are very slim as oppose you go to college select a major, like your major, and interview and articulate your self in an interview well enough to get the decent paying job and then hustle within the politics of corporate America to move up to a 6 figure salary.
To me that’s easier than having no degree and trying to hustle something. The only way that works is if you’re a talented artist, musician or tech guru and how many of us are that? Not many. Bottom line is, there are alot more doctors, attorneys, IT specialists, nurses, police officers, admin, secretaries, sport medicine folks, firemen, mail people etc…than there are music moguls, and athletes.

To go into one of those avenues is like trying to squeeze pancake batter into a thin straw, a massive amount of people trying to be Jay-Zs, Puffs, Irvs, JDs, 50s, Ems, Dres, not many of them out there. In fact since puff or Jay – I have not seen anyone who’s reached their amount of success…maybe Kanye…he put in work…but these are all exceptions to the rule – not saying it can’t be done, because everything can be done. Anything, and the harder you work the better your chances are.

  8. Nuttyboy Says:

Irv thinks everybody else is like Puffy, 50 or Jay?
College especially in tough economic times is a good foundation when it comes employments.
If you have at least a college degree especially for young black males it’s an assurance in the future compare to hustling in the street. As a young black male who’s currently pursuing a degree I feel like we as the black community would have less people in jail or dead if they pursued higher education.

  10. Lynsi Says:

Way to sound like an idiot ass clown telling your children not to go to college. Pretty soon your going to need a degree to even work at a Mccdonalds; but then again Kanye west has just penned the great American novel…what a joke

  11. theboyillinois Says:

college all depends on what u need to do with our life..its better to pick up a trade than to go to college and struggle to get a job with a non paying degree

  12. theboyillinois Says:

    and oh yea..lynsi u sound angry…u mad?

  13. theboyillinois Says:

and MO..u dont have to go to college to become a secretary, fireman, police officer, mail person..

  14. Lynsi Says:

Haha yea I’m angry bc I’ll be in school till I’m dead…. but that is true, college isn’t for everyone and learning a trade is a good alternative.. I’m frustrated with the example beingI set by gotti’s initial reaction to college as if it was an insane idea and by Kanye admitting he doesn’t like books and is a proud non reader(all while trying to get people to buy the book he just “wrote”). I lost both my parents very young so in a way what I saw celebrities doing was my example of how to act etc. etc….I realize having your life under a microscope for everyone to see a judge would be god awful and they never signed up to be role models, but they are and need to start acting like it…

  15. bensonhurst goon Says:

people who didnt go to college have 99 million bad things to say about college nd what not but the fact is people who go to college have the advantage.. hands down and on top of that they are generally smarter people.. Yeah of course you have a handful of people who go to college and do nothing and are morons but anyone against college is a fool. knowledge is power – thats it you dickwads..

  16. donblaq Says:

@theboyillinois….you are right but a college degree, as russ said, shows the ability to learn and succeed at whatever task your job requires. So even though they are not requirements, not only do they effect your likelihood of being being hired but it also effects your starting salary and adjusted pay scale, even as a police man, a firefighter, etc. It also puts you on a different track to management positions than other people who may start the same job without a degree.

  17. dave Says:

    its true

  18. frank white Says:

Damn i had this convo with my ex today. College aint for everyone ….kanye, jay, bill gates,…….and the list goes on. but one needs to ask themsleves what seperates these guys from ones self. the answer is TALENT!!! if u can run play ball or simply just gifted in a field that can make u sustain the lifestyle u want then fukk college. But if not…join the train its a worthwhile experience that teaches you mor than just academics…….you will understand society better and developed better understanding of different cultures class race and elasticities……… plus the usual ….party drink sex!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. newjerseygiant Says:

Having a college degree/job corps training opens up more doors and makes life a little easier to get a job than the average Joe. Whenever you go to apply for a job after dropping off your resume, they will look at the person with the Degree/training first and the person with only a diploma/GED last. Its like you went from the back of the line to the very front. You still have to bust your ass even with a degree because nothing in life is handed to you, so don’t believe a bachelors, associates, or masters degree gives you special status because you can still be over qualified for a simple minimum wage 9-5 job.

watch “JOHN Q” by Denzel Washington and you will see exactly what i’m talking about. Has a degree and couldn’t get a simple $8 job.

  20. 2cents Says:

Oh and I forgot to mention the BLACK INFRASTRUCTURE!!! We need people in places to be hiring (not jus managers but owners) instead of being @ the mercy of the business world.

and why do people feel in general so many people are unqualified… we have a huge untapped talent base cause were too busy leadin people to the regular music, ent, etc…

Based on the Title alone, COLLEGE VS. GETTIN MONEY… if you go to college to get money, and can get it without college… whats the purpose?

And better yet why does it cost so much!?!?! If the 1st 13yrs are free why are the last 4-8 so damn expensive?

  21. 2cents Says:

@ the end of the day jus get your information game str8, whether formal or informal!!!

  22. PMURDA Says:

AND THIS IS EXACTLY WHY SOME NIGGAS WILL ALWAYS BE EXACTLY WHERE THEY ARE… BECAUSE OF STUPID ASS QUESTIONS LIKE THIS…EDUCATION IS THE FUNDAMENTAL BUILDING BLOCK TO LIFE AS A WHOLE, LET ALONE TO GETTING MONEY. IT SHOULDN’T EVEN BE A QUESTION OF WHETHER OR NOT YOU SHOULD GET A HIGHER EDUCATION IF IT IS REASONABLY POSSIBLE.

I CAN UNDERSTAND A KID WHO GOT PLUCKED FROM H.S TO GO TO THE NBA, AND THEN LATER GETS HIS DEGREE OR SOMETHING ALONG THOSE LINES…BUT IF YOU HAVE TO MAKE A DECISION BETWEEN SLANGIN ROCKS AND GOING TO COLLEGE, THEN NIGGA JUST TAKE YO ASS TO SCHOOL (IF POSSIBLE)…YOU AINT BMF, YOU AINT NICKY BARNES, SCARFACE, OR NONE OF THEM NIGGAS…U JUST ANOTHER NIGGA THATS GONE GET CAUGHT UP IN THE SYSTEM OVER BULLSHIT.

STOP HUSTLING BACKWARDS…MONEY BEGETS BITCHES…BUT EDUCATION BEGETS MONEY!!!!!

  23. noelle Says:

Well, my mom said the economy is very bad. She said you can always do public relations, but wnt want to do something that is in demand. I might do social work or speech pathology. She said if I change my major, all I have to do is pay my cellphone bill. :)

  24. noelle Says:

    you*

  25. noelle Says:

PR as a minor is cool..I guess. Need a new major :-/
