As someone who grew up (from Day One) listening to te Jackson 5 and subsequently, Michael Jackson as a solo at, let me say this: a lot of these young people don’t realize how important Soul Train was to black artists at a time when it was not easy getting television time. Soul Train was a great show and Don Cornelius was the host of that show.

First, I felt that Mr. Cornelius should have been given a microphone appropirate for his height so that he did not have to bend over when speaking. Second, while he have have talked too long (which, I do not think he did), this man is a legend in terms of black music for well over 40 years. I watched Soul Train every Saturday! It was a great venue.

The young people need to show respect to people who fought to maintain a venue and public space for black entertainers. This was long before MTV and BET and other entertainment television stations.

Don Corneilus was also well dressed and elegant. This is something that these thugs need to understand. Maxwell also had on a beautiful suit and shirt.

The elegance has been taken out of show business–and, at the end, of the day, entertainers need to understand this.

Other observations:

Beyonce, for example, is still learning. Her dress was inappropriate for the venue. That swinsuit outfit.

Ving Rhames needs help. Fast.

Drake, Lil Wayne, and others should be facing child pornography charges. (Since there are no real standards left in the rap game, how was Wayne to know that this rap he was performing was out of place? Insanity has becom the norm.)

Alicia Keyes was the best dressed woman there, although I think she is a little heavy on the makeup and false eyelashes. She is a natural beauty and really does not need any of that.

And those Mary Mary sisters are about to bust out of that skirt and leather pants.

worst awards show to date i only watched it because i thought appropriate ppl wouldve been there to tribute MJ. No chris brown usher or ginuwine? I mean what the fuck they were the only ones that had there moves down pact. Jays performance was not all that for jamie to make such a big deal outta it like that i mean i was waiting for somethin magical to happen and they brought out jay to do his usual lackluster perfomance. Beyonce this bitch must be on some type of drugs or pills she looked high throughout the entire show what the fuck was up wit her wearing a bathing suit with a lamp shade around it she aint look like a angel she looked like a ghost or witch wit that scare crow wig and veil. They shoulda had mariah come shut the shit down! Ciara was cool i dont know why ppl bashed her vocally she chose a song well within her range. Neyo was cool he had the best performance by far. Lil wayne NO COMMENT!

The show was aiight….nothing special.

Someone needs to do T-Pain a favor and jack him for that silly ass chain, and sell it on ebay…cause he looks like a DAMN fool with it on.

The Baby Boy skit was pretty funny. The Ojays performance was straight, the neyo/jamie foxx duet was good.

And agree with everyone on here…the Young Money performance was beyond horrible…who’s idea was that?
