*whishel* That’s all, I thought he was going to slam him. He’s absolutely right, Sylvia Rhone has spent money on “Best I Ever Had” and the record is receiving cross over success. What record exec doesn’t though ? I use to work in radio, it’s pay to play. Don’t let the station program directors fool you, that’s how it has been. Only now a days it’s a little more extreme.

Why do you think you hear the same 10 records on the radio?

Now a days it’s like this, corporate execs from Clear Channel Radio One etc….pass down play list to every station that’s under them. It’s no more middle man anymore now a days it’s very blatant. Their play list come from record companies etc and it’s passed down to the stations.

That’s why you hear southern radio in all markets including LOS ANGELOS and NEW YORK CITY more than you will hear a NEW YORK rapper. In example you will hear a “Main O” maybe only in the tri state and he may trickle down to smaller radio markets like Baltimore or Philadelphia but rarely reach across the country like a Houston or Nashville. In other cases, someone like a “Gucci Mane” will reach all the way to Los Angelos major spins in Chicago and stay in constant rotation in New York while dominating airwaves throughout the east coast and southern markets.

to tell you the truth i live in los angeles and Maino was just on Big Boys SPEAKING on the radio in an interview TODAY lol, and they play his songs every once in a while.

I moved here from NC and they hardly play any southern rap unless it is REALLY mainstream, which i am glad they dont because most of it is inexcusably bad and I dont miss hearing it on the radio at all.

But I do agree radio is about corporate money and if you like good or underground music then you shouldve gave up on radio a long time ago.

Drake was hot before the radio. His music and flow is on point. Once people heard the shit, they wanted more. Even If what fif say is correct, the record labels or whoever kickin out the money had to believe he was hot before they start payin out. Yeah every man is entitle to his opinion and when asked a question you answer it to the best of your knowledge. 50 says his music was organic, boy quit lying. Before you got hot, when you was potentially signing with Em and Dre, you was one of the weakest rappers ever when you kept gettin dropped from label after label. They put the money behind you, they got you your riches to start G-Unit. Just give the dude his props. 50 Cent is 100% correct and is simply expressing what I’ve been feeling. It does not appear to me that this dude Drake put in the work necessary to generate this much “buzz” and recognition. It seems to me that he just appeared out of nowhere and has materialized into this artist that labels are bidding over, but the hype is manufactured. You have to throw money at songs to get them on the radio and Drake’s prospective label is doing so to verify that he is worth the investment. They rather spend a drop in the bucket to get his songs played then commit to contract that depreciates upon signing.

Drake’s buzz IS bigger than 50’s; at this same point in their careers. Both went in the major label “circus” from the mixtape game. Drake has officially dropped 3 mixtapes (research). At the point 50 dropped his 1st official mixtape he had been recovering from being shot. Two totally different kinds of energy, but buzz the nonetheless. Drake’s gravity is based on high facial recognition with kids, young women, young men and their parents; along with the fact the guy can really rap and produce hits! 50’s lyrical legitimacy came from Lloyd Banks. Although being a lyricist doesn’t exclude you from being a great rapper (50 included), it does give more substance for the highly critical Hip Hop fans to feed off. 50 got co-signed by the hottest rapper at that time(EM). Drake got co-signed the same way(Lil’ Wayne). The way that Drake’s buzz is proving to be bigger is that “Wanksta” was attached to a highly publicized beef with a major artist and a movie(8 mile). “Best I ever had” is attached to anything yet but the mixtape! When you go to Drake’s shows everyone knows the words to his rhymes and melodies. He’s already boosted Jamie Foxx’ new single and Mary’s as well! Do I need to go on? This is was buzz is and everybody buying into it. the more you think about and discuss drake, the more popular the becomes. if he didnt have great, we wouldnt be discussin this. but with facts and figures Drake’s SO Far Gone has 3 million plus downloads. how is Drake not drumming up hype comparable to 50. Drake has great management with Kanye’s and Wayne’s manager which means he has the formula for success. 50 was right in a sense but his motivation may have been misplaced the way drake has created all of this hype in a few months time, which i think is almost exactly how 50 rose to power…

Drake has had a followin’ for a nice lil’ minute now and has a GREAT mixtape 2 boot, but when u get co-signed and have association by the likes of Weezy, Mary J., and Jay-Z, a label will do anything, especially in this climate, to get dat next big thing. People request songs on the radio after they’ve already started hearing the song on the radio, in which those songs have already been paid 2 be put in rotation. Try requesting a NEW song you jus heard off a mixtape or off the internet by a NEW and UNSIGNED ARTIST and see if that sh!t gets played, LOL. Usually DJ’s have a big influence on what radio plays, but they gettin’ paid 2 so it all comes full circle. All dude is sayin’ is he has A LOT OF MAJOR co-signs and he’s being helped more than a usual up and comin’ rapper so that’s why he said it’s not as “organic”. I don’t remember hearing Fif on the RADIO, until after he actually signed wit Sha/After/Inter, maybe in New York, but definitely not down here. And it’s not that hard 2 get on Atlanta radio, i.e. Franchise Boyz, D4L, and all dem type groups were forkin’ ova that dough 2 get on.

Drake had a nice buzz for a solid 6 or so months now, but I’ve honestly neva heard anyone compare hiss to Fif’s. I guess b/c it’s not really a comparison. Fif had BEEHIVE buzz to the 9th power.
