If any of u really believe 50’s time in the sun is up, u need a serious reality check. In 6 years dude as established himself as one of rap music’s premiere artist and business minds. This means that for as long as he chooses to fuck with this music shit he, like Diddy and Jay, will receive top billing and top dollar for everything he does. You’re talking about a man thats worth several hundred million dollars, and before anyone of u post “he’s paid but he’s not hot/relevant/poppin anymore”, use your fuckin common sense. When you’re that paid you never become irrelevant, because you’re financially secure enough to withstand whatever passing season/trend/phase/critism/public disapproval that comes your way. I distinctively remember the “flop” and “irrelevance” talk both Puff and Jay received after dropping Forever and Kingdom Come, respectively. The thing is their money was so strong and they were so established as artist that they could afford to take whatever critical L they received and keep it pushing for the next go round. Em took a 5 year hiatus and bounced back with nearly 1 million sold his first week like nuttin happened cuz…well, he can do that. A relatively new, “hot”, and unestablished artist like Drake and Gucci cant afford to lose momentum (look at G dep, Black Rob….shit every damn near Eastcoast artist except for Jay, Fif, and Puff lol). A rapper’s PROFITABLE shelf life is shorter than a muhfucker, unless of course they already have profit. Rick Ross may have won that battle with 50, if for no other reason than the fact that he was able to survive it, but if the fanfare the south has generated in hip-hop should for whatever reason fade (God forbid, cuz Im from the A, zone 4 stand up!!), and move back to the east, west, or mid-west…will we be talkin about him, or half the artists that are “relevant” today? Prolly not.

Point well taken, but u gotta remember that Master P also filed for bankruptcy (due to various unprofitable financial risks and failed investments), and if u remember there was a direct correlation between his loss of wealth and his dominance in the music industry. Had No Limit been able to whether the storm financially (like a…uh, Cash Money), he could have still been here, continuing to ride that New Orleans wave (like a…uh, Cash Money), possibly reclaiming his spot or reinventing the entire label (like a…uh, Cash Money). All Im saying is, when your money is straight you can literally afford to stay around. If 50 continues to remain a powerhouse money maker, the G-Unit banner will fly high for as long as he wants it to, and no one necessarily has to sell either (look at Bad Boy, that label has been completely defunct for nearly 10 years, but that show’s not over until Puffy says so).
Percy Miller, Suge Knight, and Damon Dash are classic examples of hip hop heavy weights that lost their footing financially, and then their empires as a result. Call me crazy…but I dont see 50 going broke, and I dont see G-Unit going anywhere (unless they choose to), my nigg they’re damn near 10yrs in.

The Freeway issue was interesting alot of the ROC rappers didnt take advantage of the opportunity they had. Kanye was laughed at and told he cant rapper and has been the most successfull rapper to come out of Rocafella that isnt by luck and its not by Hov holding his hand its through hard work alot of the rappers on Rocafella thought they had it easy because they working with the best rapper but as Kanye proved you can make it through hard work and making GOOD music.

I am a “real mafucka” that really listens “to hip hop (not rap)” and btw the distinction niggas try to make between “hip hop” and “rap” is bullshit, rap is merely the musical component of hip-hop culture. The whole argument that one artist is more “hip-hop” than another is very subjective and actually quite ignorant. Boosie, Huey, and Bow Wow (not that Im particularly a fan of their music, no disrespect to them) are not less apart of the hip-hop culture than Nas, Rakim, or Black Thought; just like “Rapper’s Delight” or the “Humpty Hump” isnt any less apart of the hip hop tradition than “The Message” or “Me Against the World”. Whenever young black (or any race for that matter) men (or any gender for that matter) embrace the art rhyme and used it establish careers for themselves…that is HIP HOP, plain and simple.
I think far too often “hip hop heads” get way too fuckin self righteous, and play judge and jury to whats considered “real hip hop music”. Just because you dont fuckin like it, SO THE FUCK WHAT?! There is nothing cornier that hearing a blogger or rapper rant about what is considered legit or not. While I agreed with D.O.A, I didnt necessarily feel it was Jay’s place to do it (when the masses decide auto is done, they’ll stop requesting it…and btw Jay is my favorite rapper of all time)
