50 Cent Feels Artists Worrying About Sales Is Hindering Creativity In Hip Hop
What I fell in love with and inspired me to get into hip-hop is dwindling away. I’d like to be a representation of that, because there isn’t much of that left. I think people are so conscious of the numbers they’re not being creative anymore.

50cent used to go on camera and talk about record sales almost every day and now he saying this shit? Why is he worried about peoples record sales anyways. People make music to eat period. Record sales just means that you touched alot more people. 50cent cd got pushed back for alot of reasons. they waiting on the movie to be released to get some free promo and get the album out then to get some sales because of the damage that rick ross did and his fan base who love to download free shit.

Dude said every one in the unit going wood. Banks sold more then Ross,Buck sold more then your favorite rappers and when Game was with the unit he sold mad records. Every one is worried about album sells in America I rather make a Million Euro’s and Yen then a million dollars. America don’t like real hip hop international is the way.

what 50 is doing after seeing that eminem has comeback to sales of 600k (95% are a white fanbase) it equates that when he releases his next album he will sell nothing near that so he is starting the damage control early

Few mainstream rappers are creative nowadays. It’s been like this for quite some time now. That’s because record labels only want the same thing over and over again – some garbage lyrics about hoes cars and jewelry and then a catchy hook. It’s all about money. If something sells a lot they ain’t going to change.
You have to be on an independent label to be able to be very creative, cause then you can do pretty much whatever you want and nobody is going to tell you to change to fit a certain mainstream sound.

I guess its never to early to start damage control. 50 knows his next album is gonna flop so he is just trying to cushion his fall. He was the main person talking about record sales, and plus he ended peoples careers off talking about record sales. He went from using it as his primary weapon and now he’s using it as his primary defense.

I think you guys are missing the point. Record sales are only part of what make you a great rapper. At some point or another Records sales were the gauge for popularity and fan following. If you sold a mill you hot. But you had to make good music to do it. If you had a hot single we wasn’t buying the album. We was buying the single.
Now things have changed. People don’t buy cds no more so it no longer gauges whether or not your hot anymore. When you sellout and you go autotune or you make a dance song then your not trying to sell records because your proud of the music you made and everyone can appreciate it. Your just trying to get a quick buck.
All 50 is saying is “Stop with the one-hit wonders” and “Come on with the quality music”. I agree.

I think what 50cent is trying to say is lately rappers are so focuses on saleing their not putting out quality music which i can agree because music is garbage today eveybody is doing the same thing. 50cent has sold records over the years because of the quality music he has been putting out. I dont think it is about him flopping i just think that hip hop has changed period. Hip Hop has made a 160 turn to the worst in the last 4-6 years BAD.
I remember in like 1998 about 14 hip hop albums went platinum (I was subscribed to The Source @ the time lol)
and know its getting more and more difficult to hit that mark (blame some of that to downloading for free 99) for these artists.
Niggaz starting following trends & styles n shit that they weren’t dropping good,original music anymore.
I’m 25 and I don’t even listen to a lot of these new niggas, cause the sound is repetitive.
The only time I actually copp an album now a days is if it’s something that makes me wanna listen to it with out having to press skip 2-3 times (I went to buy Relapse).
If Faboulous dropped an album with Premo,Alchemist,Nottz,Lord Finesse,Charlemagne type beats I’d copp that shit with out blinking.But Fab keeps making albums with a certain sound to get some of that radio play.
If niggaz didn’t worry about getting radio/video play and just make good sounding shit, it would all be better.
I got love for this nigga Fif, but I didn’t even bother copping Curtis.
Waiting on LupEND,Till The Casket Drops,BP3,the new Outkast and if this nigga Earl Simmons ever calms down and hits the studio (some new artists too if they stay in their lane with their albums).
Other than that, aint no other artists getting $$ support from me.

50 is right. everyone is always worried about i need to push these many units instead of focusing on what type of quality music is being put out. The rappers who aren’t worried about sales( Jay-Z, Lil’ Wayne, Kanye and Em) always seem to do the big numbers because they worry about the music and not the money and once you make the good music they know the money will follow. 50 used to be that way and kind of got away from it but seeing how g-unit has been on the decline he sees the formula again and will hopefullly bring g-unit back to glory.
