Vibe’s list are laughable, worst yet is the top 50 rap blogs(Some how I couldn’t even make the top 50 rap blogs when there is no way I’m not top 5 IMO).
My Thoughts on the list:
Honestly when I first heard the list was even created I knew I wasn’t going to be on it. RealTalkNY is some how always left out of, “top blog,” talk despite over 50 million hits and actually CREATING ORIGINAL CONTENT. I think no one should issue any site the top rap blog because different sites have their own lane and audience they cater too. Congrats to anyone that can create a site and build up a following through hard work. With that said no matter what success you have no one should feel they run the net. Also no top Hip Hop blog list is credible without mentioning RealTalkNY. But if you want to compare blogs I would think the criteria would be consistency, originality and success. I feel this site scores high in each category, but disagree if you want(feel free to explain why you disagree).
I had a few comments on Twitter about the list because I’m entitled to my opinion. I have no reason to hate on anyone because I’m doing good and have no reason to be jealous. I know I put in work that most people don’t so when I don’t get acknowledged for it I will let it be known like it or not. At the end of the day you got to respect the site even if you don’t like it and the Vibe list is clearly not legit, REAL TALK.

RTNY regarding what you’ve mentioned, which is that blogs should be rated on consistency, originality and success, I think that you’re site is not really all that different now if u compare with other blogs
i dont know who is original and started this hip hop blog trend, however, if u look around, there are other blogs thats doin exactly what you doin, and havin the same contents as you. most of your posts can be found in hiphopgame, allhiphop and youtube, but u put them together and made them easier to access, which i find your site convenient for me to get updated on the current events
consistency wise and the success aspect of the blog i give it to you, since you put most of all the important events thats goin on in the hip hop world, but i think it would be better for you to comment on more things and give more of your personal input instead of just puttin videos and pics together

Agree with number 12. RealTalkNY looks like it’s owned by certain artists. At one point it was JD, then Joe Budden, a bunch of other people and recently Fabolous. Every site has their favorites but this one is clearly biased and ignores a lot of people. I’ve personally emailed original content on several dope well known artists and got no response.
With that said, I’d still say this is in the Top 10 Hip Hop SItes/Blogs.

This brings up an important question in the “Greatest Rappers” question. Budden said he believed this list to be just about rap skills – pick up the mic and go.
For VIBE to maintain any sort of credibility, I hope thats not the case.
This list must also include popularity, record sales, longevity, influence, etc.

I agree and I disagree.
The problem is that the bracket is erroneously titled “Best Rapper Ever.”
With that being said, then you would have to look at:
total catalog
consistency
number of hits
overall sales
So you would say yeah Budden IS NOT a better rapper than i.e. Will Smith. But when was the last time you ever head a Budden song aside from his own mixtapes?! Yet, if you were listening to the radio, at a family gathering, or a movie soundtrack that threw on some old DJ Jazzy Jeff/Fresh Prince, you would probably let it ride cause it used to be the shit. No one from the current generation rocks Budden like that neither.
Now if you were go to “Best MC Ever”, which is just on lyrics, then yeah I would but Budden AHEAD of Will Smith.
Lastly, if you were to say “Most Influential Ever” then Budden again IS NOT more important than Will Smith, Chubb Rock, Method Man, or damn near anyone else on that list because you’re combining some factors of “best rapper ever” plus “best mc” but not MCing in the sense of straight lyrics but the influence the song had, the classic timeless appeal, and how it can and will stand the test of time. For example, Budden is a better MC than Will Smith, but Pump It Up is in no way touching Summertime or Kool Moe Dee’s “I Go To Work” or Chubb Rock’s “Treat Em Right”. The only thing Pump It Up is known for is that gay ass You Got Served movie with B2K and if it weren’t for that soundtrack it’ll probably be even more forgotten. Matter of fact, Pump It Up doesnt’ even get more love than Flipside by Peedi Crack and Freeway and that song is of the same mold and rhyme scheme.

I feel Joe on this. These lists are ALWAYS biased and have no sense of factual composition. Some clown arbitrarily creates a list and expects this type of debate. It works everytime!Another interesting point is that Joe Budden has entirely too much time on his hands to be an internet celebrity and a true Hip Hop artist. I’ll give it up to RealTalkNY, it’s a great site and 1 of 4 sites I check daily. I’ve been visiting this site 3 or 4 times a day for the last couple of years and it’s been great to see this Hip Hop site continue to grow. I thank you for keeping me informed on what going on in the industry.
With that being said, there is still room for improvement. Even when you’re at the top, there’s room for improvement – you can never get comfortable. One of the only few things I would say negative is the fact that there is a large bias towards some artists (i.e. Rick Ross) and obvious “hate” towards others (i.e. Aftermath Records). Now, there isa chance that you are promoting certain artists to purposely create buzz around the site knowing it pisses off a majority of the people when it says “What do you feel about Em’s accent?” – Not the greatest example but you catch my drift. Seeing Rick Ross at the top of the screen all day every day is extremely irritating. It would be irritating to see Eminem at the top as well all day – and I’m an Em fan. I just feel you should keep it consistant. Once you keep the love consistant and you don’t show so strong of a bias towards certain rappers you’re site will continue to grow into the level. I can, however, see something being at the top of the list if it’s breaking news (Rihana’s nekkid pics)!
Keep doing your thing and working hard. I’m excited to see where this site will be in a few years. And, VIBE not putting you guys in the top 15 is complete bullshit. But don’t let their hate get to you, there’s talk of them going bankrupt very soon.

Yo Real Talk this is one of the realest and most diverse and authentic blogs in the game and incorporates sports music and entertainment which is the best way to bridge the gap. They also have active readers who can ACTUALLY have a conversation about the song, rather than a million people talking about nothing to do with the subject. I search through all of the comments and can’t even find out if a song is worth listening to or not. The readers on RT engage and care about the hip hop and this website really cares about good hip hop, and I appreciate that and it’s something I’m trying to do. The videos they bring don’t compare as far as engaging interviews with artists that answer specific questions that the reader would like to know about and I credit you for taking the initiative to ask everyone for questions and use that as essential and crucial input. This site is the truth man so congrats and keep up the good work and I aspire to seamlessly transition from Sports and Rap mixed with entertainment. Sites like this one, illRoots, Hip Hop Update and Kevin Nottingham are constantly deliver quality that is original and insightful yet are left of a list that doesn’t pay close attention to the diversity that created with features and a fanbase that is loyal and informative. The list had the New Music Cartel covered which is well deserved but I give credit to sites that are discovering underground artists and contributing to the success of Artist development. These artists can be discovered, discussed and are given constructive feedback that is brutally honest while also being perceptive and helpful. That list was also created by people who didn’t know how to debate the order of new rap. The game has changed and they don’t dig deep enough to find the most consistent websites that they aren’t and should be paying attention to. They can overlook you but enough people know the real truth.

The list is insane! Still, I don’t imagine Joe B’s rendition of the list would be the truth either. He thinks he deserves to be higher in rank, based on a song he got out.
