marshall mathers lp – 1.7 million first week.

eminem show – 1.6 million in 10 days. (remember, that cd released on a sunday & did like 300,000 units in 2 days.

encore – 750,000. (he wasn’t really talking bout alot on that one.

Copped the album today, it’s way better than most critics are saying, but that’s irrelevant to the sales.

One thing to keep in mind is that The Re-Up went platinum (not first week, mind you, but still) and Em was only on like five tracks. People are hungry.

i think relapse was leaked too far ahead of time. it’s old to some people already.

c3 had a leak to deal with, but it was only a few days ahead, which probably worked in it’s favor.

and for the record: c3 wasn’t terrible, but it was a missed opportunity. overall, relapse is better, but also perhaps its own missed opportunity.

both emcees have history with me…. I was listening to both around the same time….1998, they were both in the game but Em was upper echelon/top ranked…. wayne was a (hot boy) doing the wobbity woppp wopp line in Juvenile’s hit single “drop like it’s hot”. He was a member of a group..nobody would of thought he would be a solo artist, one of the biggest names in music.

Em was in the mix when Jay and Nas were peaking and considered the #1 and #2 arguably… he was mentioned in the same breathe as them… wayne wasn’t.

I think eminem will get close to wayne or slightly pass him in first week sales. I can’t wait for them to do a record together.

no, he will not outsell lil wayne.

simple reason: there have not been enough cd’s shipped to retailers that he could sell more than wayne. he could only outsell him if he sold around 700k in downloads.

i think eminem will land a strong no. 1 around 500-700k.

but in total sales (worldwide) he will easily outsell lil wayne. i see eminems album going top 5 in japan and all over europe right now. he’s the elvis presley of modern times.

Encore is 4x platinum in the USA alone and sold 710k in its 3 day opening week (978k in the second week). The total sales of Encore is around 5 million units in the USA.

I don’t see a big buzz for “Relapse” but if he sells anything like Encore he will outsell Lil Wayne.

Eminem’s comeback “Relapse” (Interscope) is set to return the rapper to the top of the album charts in the U.K. with the biggest week one sale of the year so far.

Entertainment retailer HMV reports that the set has proved to be its biggest day one release of 2009. HMV is also predicting total market sales in excess of 175,000 for “Relapse,” which would make it the biggest opening week so far for an album in 2009.

U2’s “No Line On the Horizon” (Mercury) had first week sales of 168,000 in March.

Eminem’s set sold more than 64,000 on its day of release (May 18), although it’s not yet clear if it moved more than U2, whose album sold a similar amount (64,700) on its first day in stores.

The rapper is planning a free show at the 1,500-capacity MotorCity Casino Sound Board theater Detroit today (May 19) to coincide with the U.S. release.

He announced the show on his MySpace page and fans queued up for tickets on Monday morning at Record Time in the Detroit suburb of Roseville.
