Rick Ross’, “Deeper Than Rap,” First Week Sales Are In
Rick Ross debuts number 1 this week selling 158k copies of, “Deeper Than Rap.” His previous albums debuted at 187k(06) and 198k(08). So with the first week sales in, who won the battle, Rick Ross or 50 Cent? Did the beef hurt of help Rick Ross’ sales? Also how can some people call 158k a flop when Jadakiss sold 135k?
Also Asher Roth sold 65k with his debut album, “Asleep in the Bread Aisle.”

Ross it’s a flop compare to JADAs album but I honestly though the Beef would have hurt ross sale to the point that he would have just made maybe 60k..

When will 50 drop his next album. I’d like to see how many albums he’ll sell. Not that album sell is everything but it does say something about how loyal your fanbase is. Anyway 158 first week sales is pretty good so props to Rick Ross.
These numbers prove that Rick Ross benefited off this beef. BTW Asher Roth only did 67,449.

thats exactly why they can call it a flop, because jadakiss sold dat…jada had never been a marker for good album sales so if they do they same then enuff said. Then u can say hu won the battle either cuz both artists sales have gon up since the beef, 50s past 3 albums hav risen by 74% and ricky’s last 2 by 66%. You just have to wait for BISD to drop, if it sells less than 400,000 then Ricky won.

Looks like men lie, women lie…and numbers do too. For years, there has been speculation throughout the music industry that Def Jam Records purchases records to manipulate the Nielsen Soundscan Charts. Although it was never proven, a former employee at Def Jam thought so.
Back in 2004, the LA Times reported:
A former music executive is accusing a unit of Universal Music Group and a promotion company of distorting the pop charts by persuading independent retailers to falsify album sales.
Veteran sales executive Theressa Rossi said in a lawsuit that she was induced to become the “front man” for a company hired by Universal’s Def Jam label to inflate sales figures reported to the tracking firm Nielsen SoundScan, which compiles the industry’s influential sales charts.
Independent retail stores were provided with free CDs of Def Jam artists by Giaco Entertainment, a New York marketing firm retained by the label, the suit said.
Giaco enlisted the merchants to repeatedly swipe the CDs across scanning machines to boost sales figures, distorting Nielsen SoundScan’s computerized reports, according to the suit, which did not specify which albums were involved. Giaco threatened retailers with delays of regular album shipments if they did not falsify sales data, the suit said.
The complaint, filed Monday in New York state court, names Universal, Def Jam, Giaco President Joe Giaco and Def Jam executives Kevin Liles and Mignon Espy as defendants.
Universal Music, a unit of Vivendi Universal, said it hadn’t reviewed the lawsuit and declined to comment. Def Jam is one of the nation’s largest rap labels, with acts such as Ja Rule and DMX.
In the past, representatives of the five major record companies have denied knowledge of any attempt by their labels to manipulate the data.
Giaco’s attorney, Steven K. Meier, called the claims “patently untrue,” according to a report by Bloomberg News.
Nielsen SoundScan officials couldn’t be reached for comment. Previously, executives with the New York-based market research company have said they have installed safeguards to uncover and remove false CD sales reported by record stores.
According to the complaint, Universal had moved to sever ties with Giaco in 2001 after a Los Angeles Times article described potential inflation of music sales data by independent promoters.
The suit alleges that Liles and Giaco colluded to create a new marketing company — Entertainment Marketing Services, with Rossi as a principal — to conceal from Universal executives that Def Jam and Giaco had not severed their relationship.
Giaco refused to open his financial books to Rossi and later forced her out while withholding her share of the profits, according to the suit, which seeks $22 million in damages.
For the music industry, Rossi’s allegations could have a wide ripple effect. Nielsen SoundScan’s figures, used to compile Billboard magazine’s sales chart, are widely considered the most trustworthy measurement of consumer tastes.
Before SoundScan’s arrival in 1991, the industry’s charts were based on verbal reports made by retailers.

the only reason why ross had the number 1 album was because he went up against no one at all. Sure he beat hannah montana and roth, but that was the 2nd or 3rd week that her album has been out. That would have been embarrassing. Ross was really smart to have a release date when no one else was dropping anything.

You talk bad about 50 all the time, but you seem to know a shit load about him. That tells me one thing, either you are still a fan or you use to be one somewhere along the road. I couldn’t comment earlier, because I have a job. But I will say this, I could name 10 rappers 50 is better than, not 10 lyricisits. Because 50 is technically not a lyricist. I never said he was, I said that I think that you underestimate his ability. By the way, ‘I Get Money’ was hot period. Lyrically, beat wise, everything. To say its not is a lie and you know it. Don’t hate on ya boy so much, after all I know you use to be a fan. Try to judge music by the actual material and not by how much you dislike a person. If you’ve noticed, I haven’t said anything about Ross’s quality of material on this record because I haven’t heard it yet. All I said was I bet 50’s album will be better. And I’ll leave it at that. Also, I heard someone say “Animal” was better than Piggy Bank, Listen, to me “animal” was weak compared to what Jada could’ve did to 50. People try to front like “Piggy Bank” wasn’t hot, when we all know it was. I am not going to compare it lyrically because all 50 said was 1 line to Jada, that’s it. So that would be stupid. But if you want to compare impact, 50 won that hands down. By the way, I am a huge Jada fan. I didn’t like that 50 went at him but I can still judge material for what it is. I see other people can’t do that. So I guess that makes me special. Am I the only dude that knows the truth about things. Also ‘Granted’, Saying 50 is feminine for all those things seems like just a cop out. Just say that you don’t like what he did, don’t say it was feminine. Because I can’t see what’s so feminine about going at people or doing the whole Ja Rule thing. At some point U have to make music that has some harmony in it without using a million R&B artists to accomplish your goal. Some Rappers don’t care, they still just keep using R&B artists to finish their record. But 50’s overall material is very aggressive, too aggressive in my opinion. From now on ‘Granted’, since I know your a fan of 50 or at least use to be one, try to judge material without putting your personal feelings into it. That’s what I do. Judge material for what it is, just that. P.S. Don’t you think its funny how for the last 4 years people like you have been assasinating 50’s character and skills, yet 50 is still here and being talked about everyday by everyone even though 50 hasn’t did anything in about a month and hasn’t put out an album in a year. You would think that after all these years 50 would’ve fell off the planet (like Ja Rule did). The reason why is because all of 50’s haters or non-fans were all 50 fans at one point. I dont think Ross really had that song to help push his album. i mean Magnificent is a pretty dope song and Mafia Music is one of my favorite joints but he didnt have that Boss or Hustlin or Here I Am to help push the album. Either way I’d put Deep than Rap over both of 50’s last albums. If you wanna hear some really dope 50 go listen to Power of the Dollar…true classic. U can download it at datpiff too. And to say Jada is an underground artist is crazy, everyone knows Jada, everytime he comes out with a CD he gets a buzz, I think as a whole DTR is better than TLK but Jada’s definately got some dope songs on there.

The record label made way over 1,000,000… People on here and everywhere are dumb, thats why they arent working for any media companies. There was also a special eddition dvd/album cd… I remember the first day of actual sales, deeper than rap regular was #3 on amazon, and the special eddition was #23 on overall sales. Deeper than rap regular cd was number #1 on rap, and the special eddition was #5 this was after the 1rst day. Total budget was 1.5mil, thats already paid off, and now the rest is all smooth sailing for ross and the label. Needless to say from the eyes of someone who realizes everything you see and hear from the media is entertainment, Ross did exactly what the label expected and for a third time(in a horrible market for anything that could be considered entertainment or luxury)…. there is no way he is in the red.
And why does anyone care about the beef… I mean seriously why… but I guess thats how labels and media make money, off of dunces.
In the end 50 and Ross are both rich, both dont live anywhere near the hood, both got their own side hustles, and almost all the people to cop their shit will ever be anywhere near them or even make as much as they did in one decade in their entire lives.
