Jay-Z May Have His Own Record Label In The Works
Jay-Z may be a free agent for now, but he’s in talks to cut a deal with WMG/Atlantic that could make him one of the richest and most powerful men in music.
A well-placed industry source tells us that Jay – who recently left Def Jam as a recording artist (he served as its president from 2004-2007) – has been taking top-secret meetings with his old pals and former managers Lyor Cohen and Kevin Liles. Topics of the hush-hush conversations have included giving Jay his own record label at WMG, tentatively to be called the Carter Music Group.

Why do you think that Doug Morris let Jay walk away? Because he wanted more money while he was already a waste of money. Same thing with P Diddy, Doug let his ass go for the same reason.
As far as finding talent is concerned, Jay Z was basically the guy “on duty” when Rhianna walked through the door and NeYo was discovered by an A&R at Def Jam. Jay never “discovered” anyone. And, he is a complete failure when it comes to running a Hip-Hop label. Jay killed Hip-Hop while he was at IDJ.
Jay is a great rapper that knows how to pimp himself, that’s it. If he had no name and some money to invest he would lose it all.
Don’t forget what Jay himself admitted, “I’m NOT a business-man, I’m a Business. . . .man”
