Can Someone Explain How Chrisette Michele Outsold Ciara?
Chrisette Michele notches her first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 as her sophomore set “Epiphany” (Def Jam) debuts atop the list with 83,000. She edges out the arrival of Ciara’s third album “Fantasy Ride” (LaFace) at No. 3 with just under 81,000.

Am I the only one surprised by this? I didn’t expect Ciara to do too well but I didn’t even know Chrisette was dropping and she sold more. Ciara had a lot more press and singles with Justin Timberlake and T-Pain. So any one care to explain what happened?

She was just on the United Negro College Fund tribute to Patti LaBelle, which I’m sure opened up new doors for her, because my mom never heard of her till then, and I’m sure she would buy the album if she knew it was out, just based on that performance.

it was only a 2,000 unit difference. not like it was 250,000.

Its only 2000 more – not that big of difference. Also, Ciara has one primary market and that it. Chrisette has her own primary market plus some of Ciara’s market. When your music hits a broader audience it’ll translate into more sales.
Like Eminem going diamond (10x platinum) all the time – he got respect from all races and age groups, underground and mainstream, Hip Hop heads and a strong fanbase overseas.

believe it or not. chrisette michele has a growin a fanbase. her 1st album was dope and was compared to being the second coming of jill scott. so i can see 80K buyin it. dats not a whole lot of copies. just like when jaheim did 170K da 1st week his album dropped and anthony hamilton did 135K. the promotion dont have to be heavy if ur fans. keyword: UR. fans knw u comin. ciara on the other note i have no explanation for her. i knw dat none of her singles really took off. 3 singles to be exact featuring t-pain, young jeezy, and justin timberlake. i knew her relyin on features was goin to come back and haunt her one day because if u look at her career dats all she does really. she’s a collabo artist more than anything. i wish her the best of luck but i dnt see her career goin any further than it has as far as music go anyway. chrisette michele is still growing. she been on albums by the game, ghostface, nas and jay-z. so she will get her just due in the long run. shout me out nigel d. that was the best explanation u gon get. lol

The music industry is changing for the better. Good music/talent is becoming more important than gimmicks/appearance AGAIN. The listeners no longer respect the opinion of radio anymore. They’ve been fooled over the past couple of years into buying poor quality albums because of catchy one-hit wonders grabbing radio rotation while the artists making substantial music weren’t recognized. I’m happy that this is happening…i.e Jadakiss outselling all of those ringtone rappers without a hit single.

Chrisette is doing classic soul music like Jill Scott Maxwell D’angelo Rashaan Paterson…etc. unfortanely for the last decade it’s only the R&B who’s a mixed of pop and hiphop that are commercial. Chrisette brings back true soul music to the mainstream and that’s a good thing. Chrisette is probably the best young singer out there today. When R. Kelly is at his best he’ll do beautiful music like this. “If I could turn back the hands of time” “Looking for love” “when a womans fed up”…etc.
BTW…Nigel she performed on Letterman two days ago and she put on a great performance. Post that video and show her some love. Ciara wish she could sing like that lol

Simply put Chrisette had the better album of the two. Despite Ciara being on America’s Top Model, Letterman and SNL, the material was still weak at best. There were so many false starts with CiCi’s project; the dreadful first single with T-Pain and the lukewarm second single, “Never Ever”. Had the Justin Timberlake -assisted track been released first. She may have done better. And most of her cd had already been leaked and most of it wasn’t great. Hands down Chrissette had the better disc and she was doing shows promoting her new project. Whether its a margin of difference of 2,000 or 20, 000 cd’s, she still bested a top RnB act who had far more exposure than she. And for that she deserves the to be congratulated and to have the top spot!

its a damn shame for people wishing ciara fail in her career. this comparison shit is what immature people do pointing out nagative things and how happy you feeling inside cause ciara in your opinions career is over. the girl has alright to try something new and expand. every artists will have diversity. what 50 cent has to do with this vivica career is not over and nor is ciara the hell with what rick ross say. hate on her all you like love conquer hate ciara has lots of peoples who respect her supporting her and love her as a artist.
