Ok, I understand that whole “creating new art” things. I even understand that everything is a sample to an extent (everyone samples everyone) but let’s be real.

If rock music or folk music sampled anything from hip-hop/rap, People would want royalties. It’s all about intellectual property and not JUST money. If a rapper/singer didn’t come up with the original beat, melody, words, or whatever, then give credit where credit is due b/c the record wouldn’t have even happened. Sampling music is like buying a knock-off (sometimes). No matter how good you make the carbon copy, it still hijacks the original. I do appreciate sampling b/c I am an old-school fan and have found many gems in rap/hip-hop that GIVES CREDIT. However, if you take it, you take it. With the way folks demand respect and credit, its a shame to think that you can take someone’s original work, claim it as your own, and not break off a piece for the person you “stole” from.

    Just sayin….
