I’ve heard Deeper Than Rap last night and musically, the album is in tune with how music sounds like today in the music industry. Overall, there is an improvement in the production from Ross’ last album. However, because of the unveiling of his true character in the recent back-in-forth jabs with 50 Cent, there seems to be a sense of urgency to redeem credibility through constant, repetitive, and unoriginal subject matter. Therefore, his lyrics take away from the solid respect the instrumentals deserve. Do I recommend others to listen to it? I wouldn’t know since everyone has different tastes in music. I will say that it is worth it to get it through your favorite p2p file sharing program, but not worth spending money over it.

As per my opinion on the Rick Ross controversy: I think it is (was) wise for Rick Ross to intentionally start a jab contest (if you will) with 50 Cent since it helped him build a slight buzz, however, I cannot predict how this will carry over to his album sales wise, whether it be positive or negative. I do say this: being amidst the unfavorable side(s) of 50 and G-Unit Company is one thing, but being amidst the the unfavorable side(s) of Eminem/Dr. Dre and company is a WHOLE DIFFERENT thing. Had he introduced his remix of “Crack A Bottle” much earlier (where Aftermath and company could respond), he would not be coming out tomorrow. Having said this, credit must be given to Rick Ross for not having done so, since any response now from any artist from Aftermath will have mediocre to minimal affect on Deeper Than Rap’s sales. However, in the long run, if Rick Ross does pursue to jab in the direction of the Aftermath label, his career could be in jeopardy. Rick Ross, just do your own thing and stay in Miami for your and all our sakes!

Deeper Than Rap?….not so deep after all, but a few clicks for two or three songs on the album is worth it.
