Asher Roth Speaks On Black Rappers Showing Off & Neglecting Africa
“When I dropped that … (I thought) ‘You guys are always going off about how much money you have. Do you realize what’s going on in this world right now?’ All these black rappers ? African rappers ? talking about how much money they have. ‘Do you realize what’s going on in Africa right now?’” Roth says.
“It’s just like, ‘You guys are disgusting. Talking about billions and billions of dollars you have. And spending it frivolously, when you know, the Motherland is suffering beyond belief right now.’”

Asher Roth got into some trouble earlier this week for making a joke about, “Nappy Headed Hoes,” on twitter while at Rutgers. He at first apologized and then deleted the joke, apology and said his account was hacked. I know Asher isn’t racist but he has to be careful with the jokes he makes in public.
I also don’t like that he mentions, “Black Rappers,” when it should just be rappers period.

lol he may have some points…but honestly, the topic of Africa’s state of well being really isnt a subject Asher Roth should be trying to address. Thats a whole different issue that has to do with AFRICA’s politics, AFRICA’s poverty, AFRICA’s military, and AFRICA’s society among other things. Not sayin it shouldnt be pointed out…but REALISTICALLY, all the rappers in AMERICA couldnt just change all the bad thats goin on in Africa with all theyre money put together, it takes more than that. First and foremost, Mr. Roth, there are black rappers and entertainers who have done and given a lot to Africa. Just because you dont hear about it does not mean its not being done, some people actually give from there heart because its the right thing to do or because they feel passionate about it, not for publicity. He’s saying the right stuff but at the same time hiphop has never really embraced african roots/pride in their lyrics. Africa is a subject many black americans know nothing about and aren’t really interested in.
Reggae music on the other hand is completely different where africa has always been a hot topic. From Bob Marley to Buju Banton to Sizzla and tons and tons of other reggae artists. Their conscious and knowledge lyrics about the african continent have always been a big part of their music culture.

What will more money do? The United States spends billions in aid every year trying to help Africa out, while the governments their steal the money and food, and sell the food to their people while keeping the money for themselves.
