HIV/AIDS Rate in D.C., “Higher Than West Africa”
Nearly 3,000 of every 100,000 people living in the nation’s capital have HIV or AIDS, according to a report that will be released by D.C. health officials Monday. “Our rates are higher than West Africa,” Shannon L. Hader, director of the District’s HIV/AIDS Administration, told The Washington Post. “They’re on par with Uganda and some parts of Kenya.”
That’s a little more than 15,000 people with the disease — a total that well exceeds the 1 percent threshold for what makes up a “generalized and severe epidemic,” according to the 2008 epidemiology report.

it sounds wrong how they worded this issue…so if i understand correctly hiv/aids issue is now a problem because it’s higher than africa??? so it’s krazy for anywhere else to have it higher than africa?? lets get something clear, hiv/aids is not an african disease, it wasn’t created by africa it’s a global issue affecting many parts of the world, africa is obviously extremely poor(america corrupted african governments and stole everything from them) so they obviously have a hard time dealing with this issue, but it’s not an african disease and yes it’s possible for some parts of the world to have a higher hiv/aids rate..

it’s not an african disease but that doesnt change the face that statiscally the top percentage of infected people are those from african states, that’s why they drew a reference to africa. and it’s sad because with all the education and resources this country has to offer, esp it’s capital there should be no rate like period.

im not blaming anyone but honestly when i think about it hiv/aids is mostly trasmitted by women… cuz when wer’re born pl dont have aids and we grown up and get to teenage years and noone is supposed to have but then women tend to have sex with older guys so they get aids from ppl from a different generation and then later they have sex with ppl their age so that screws up the new generation…young men dont tend to have sex with older women….if the generation of ppl witrh hiv died then new generations wouldnt have it unless like i said someone fucks with the generation that has it to mess a clean young neneration…. all this is not facts or an insult or a strong opinion..its just something to think about..maybe women need specialized sex education or something

and ii really think theres more we can do to teasch ppl about this….like schools for eg need to a have a mandatory coure not just a one hour speech…like a full course about this atleast in seventh grade …kids already know what sex is when they’re young …so it’s better to teach them when they’re young so it stays in..in highschools again it needs to be mandatory in the first yr and first semester of high school for pppl to do a full course on this ..Thye have to make it a law for schools to impose a mandatory sex education course
