Rupert Murdoch Apologizes For The Controversial NY Post Cartoon Depicting A Dead Monkey
As the Chairman of the New York Post, I am ultimately responsible for what is printed in its pages. The buck stops with me.
Last week, we made a mistake. We ran a cartoon that offended many people. Today I want to personally apologize to any reader who felt offended, and even insulted.
Over the past couple of days, I have spoken to a number of people and I now better understand the hurt this cartoon has caused. At the same time, I have had conversations with Post editors about the situation and I can assure you – without a doubt – that the only intent of that cartoon was to mock a badly written piece of legislation. It was not meant to be racist, but unfortunately, it was interpreted by many as such.
We all hold the readers of the New York Post in high regard and I promise you that we will seek to be more attuned to the sensitivities of our community.

so whos lost their job?? In this situation someone has to be made an example of , in this case the editor who okayed that cartoon.
Otherwise its just another statement were those who have taken great offense have been fobbed off..

let’s recap
the chimp in the cartoon was clearly the crazed chimp that had to have been shot by police from the day b4 that made headlines across the country.
the cartoon says “they’ll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill”. obama had nothing to do with writing the bill, thatd be Pelosi and other members of Congress.
this was clearly comparing the stimulus to an out of control animal.
wtf i thought old stereotypes lke that were done with, i really dont think there was any racist intent to this cartoon. the fact that the first thing everyone thinks of when they see this monkey is obama shows that we have not come very far after all.

# 3, are you getting paid for damage control? That was the most idiotic statement I’ve read on this website, No Offense Realtalk but you know how ignorant commentors can get so I mean that. Anyways, the Post, Murdoch, & all other Fox related companies have specialize in Subliminal messeging for years so this is nothing new. Unfortunately for them it was picked up across the radar and highly publicized, in most cases, the Fox-Loving (main Republicans, racists, & war-mongers) tend to just enjoy the subliminal hate that empowers them and goes un-noticed.

The apology was bullshit and everyone knows it. Obama did not write the stimulus bill but he is the one most associated with it. Obama’s name and face is what will be brought up if this thing works out or fails. Point 2….Chimps, monkeys, gorillas, etc. have been synonomous with black people for decades..I know a lot of us have heard the term “porch monkey”. Point 3. We have seen countless news stories of the police pumping 20-30-40 bullets into black men who are usually unarmed and of no threat. With all those points….how is it a stretch to make a connection that this cartoon was directed at Obama in a racist way?
If the Post wanted to make a connection to the chimp shooting in Connecticut…why not draw something in the picture that depicts CT…How about having one of the cars in the backgroud have a CT license plate or something like that?
The Post wanted to attract attention to themselves and they succeeded 10 fold. They knew exactly what they were doing. but they just didn’t expect such a negative reaction. The second they hear that people were no longer going to buy their newspapers THAT’S when they saw the error of their ways?….Get the fuck outta here!
