A Concise History of Black-White Race Relations in the U.S.
Thoughts on this illustration? Interesting that people get mad about poor black people receiving welfare but what about rich companies that got greedy and needed to be bailed out?

Great question!? Also where did all this money come from seein we don’t have money to invest in the inner city ever!
the illustration is crazy too… I wish the guy woulda knocked the azz down with the ball and chain!
but its true and I “love” the term reverse racism…lol people use it like its such a hit!
Ummm for those who don’t know reverse means in opposition to its true path meaning only dark people should be victims of racism!!!

Too real, very accurate.
There is no better blaitant way to put it other than that illustration.
RealTalk what do you think?
February 24th, 2009 at 4:23 am
and how does this illustration help the black-white relations?
February 24th, 2009 at 5:52 am
lol @ #4 Who said it was suppose to? The caption says its a “Concise history of Black-White relations…”! Meaning its what is documented!
The caption isn’t a “consice way to improve black white relations”
February 24th, 2009 at 7:27 am
^^^^^^^^you are right.. but the illustration is very true!

February 24th, 2009 at 9:00 am
“and how does this illustration help the black-white relations?”
IT HELPS SHOW THE TRUE NATURE OF THE CRACKER.
February 24th, 2009 at 9:13 am
umm realtalk that argument doesnt make sense same people were against corporate bailouts who oppose welfare. cartoon is dumb, trying to stir up racist sentiment. all the race baiters are getting scared cuz obama is our pres they fear racism is close to being over so they pull out shit like this. i think this cartoon severely underestimates what whites did to help civil rights in general, (let alone everyone that fought and died in civil war). don’t think this cartoon helps anything or anyone.
February 24th, 2009 at 9:31 am
i’d like think of the illustrations that came after these. the ones that show the black man’s creative genius and struggle of eventually ascending on the platform. and afterward showing an illustration as well, of him helping the next one up from a long line of others wait to come up.
February 24th, 2009 at 9:32 am
…. so wheres the part where the black man pictured gets up and triumphs over antiquated notions and becomes the first black leader of the free world? oh wait that wouldn’t fit the antiquated view of the writer in this case. Please people. Think.
February 24th, 2009 at 10:07 am
There’s no need for this. I’m saying this as an African-American, I understand the illustration, but we’re supposed to be moving forward. And to me it seems racism is on the rise again.
In a way the illustration is wrong.
If you look at it as if the black guy in the picture being Barack Obama, then surely white people have given him a hand up.
Some people don’t realize for Obama to have won the presidential race, he got a LOT of white votes for it to be possible.
Racism will always exist, the same as sexism, it’s just the way life is. But Obama is hope for African-Americans, and we need to put all this racism aside, forget what has happen and start getting our own. We’ve been through some tough times and we have come as far as a black man being president, let’s continue making strides forward, all this is irrelevant.
REAL TALK!

this cartoon captures some very real feelings.
February 24th, 2009 at 1:02 pm
Black people vs rich companies? Why make this comparison? A corporation is not a person and therefore doesn’t have a race. Look at some of these companies getting bailout money… some of them have black CEOs.
February 24th, 2009 at 1:19 pm
which man can bloodclaat climb up pan my back and nuh get shat inna him bumboclaat?
February 24th, 2009 at 1:59 pm
The cartoon is old but its real talk. Sometimes white people forget about the wealth/opportunity that their forefathers had built up for them which was assisted by slavery.
Its like in late high school/early college when kids are complaining about having a job and being broke then there is that one kid who says people should be a hard worker like him. Its like no you arent a crazy hard worker your daddy hooked u up with a job that u get paid $4 over minimum wage and he gave u a car to drive to work.

SLAVERY BUILT AMERICA….HUNDREDS OF YEARS OF FREE LABOR
February 24th, 2009 at 2:29 pm
At least the site has a few more people with sense lately. Co-sign #18. I actually love this bailout stuff because I love to see old white men beg for money. The irony lies in the fact that Obama is black and has the most influence over who gets what when it comes to white welface aka bailout money.

@ 12
like most art, it’s left up to the VIEWER (not the writer or creator) to make his or her own interpretation of what they see.
February 24th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
For the last time….WHITE PEOPLE DID NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA BECAUSE HE WAS BLACK!!!
So this notion that his win means that the majority of whites were colorblind is crazy….
He won because….he was the most qualified candidate and the ECONOMY was fucked up and America was too fucked up aftet 8 years of Bush.
Trust me, no one would be voting for my dude Flava Flav for president.
February 24th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
this is a stupid ass cartoon. it doesnt depict anything other than someone’s thoughts and opinions. Dont blame someone else because you decide not to go to school or instead of getting that job at McDonald’s at 16 u decided to sell drugs. There are plenty of black people who do very well for themselves and they don’t make any excuses about life. The Africans did just as harsh things to the white people when they invaded Europe and slaughtered and raped their women but you have to leave things in the past and not make excuses any more its 2009, look out for yourself and stop making excuses, stop making it a battle between white and black, we are all built the same and have the same opportunity to go to school and get a good job.
February 24th, 2009 at 5:15 pm
damn black people got strong enough to break outta chains (with the help of white {what don’t kill ya make you stronger}) Now that we got the strength, thru the depression of muscle (slavery) that muscle just matured now there’s no stopping of how high we can jump.
Deep shity won’t expect ya’ll to get it
February 24th, 2009 at 5:38 pm
Are you saying that all poor people are black and all rich companies are comprised of white people? Because there are PLENTY of black people who are rich as well. I really dont think that comment was relevant to the picture and I can’t believe this was even posted.
By the way Isiah, I’m white and I voted for Obama because I think he can do some good for the country, so the notion that white people did not vote for Obama could not be farther from the truth. On the other hand, so many black people who had never even voted in their life made it out to the voting poles to vote for him this year without even knowing what he stood for, but simply because he is black (halfway anyway). I see that as racist. Racism comes from both ends, and will only end when you allow it to.
Jones009, we need more people like you in this world.
February 24th, 2009 at 6:15 pm
@ 21 # Isiah Bradley
Read again. I didn’t say white people voted for him because he’s black. But it’s the fact, WHITE PEOPLE VOTED FOR A BLACK MAN.
Think about it, read between the lines. If they didn’t want to help up a black man, like the illustration suggest, why the hell would they vote a black man into the most powerful position in the world?
So those white people who voted, clearly don’t have any issues regarding race, right?
@ #24 I co sign what you say, about racism coming from both ends. And I’m just speaking truthfully, with common sense. A lot of people just post random shit on the site anyway.
February 24th, 2009 at 6:48 pm
@#24
“By the way Isiah, I’m white and I voted for Obama because I think he can do some good for the country, so the notion that white people did not vote for Obama could not be farther from the truth. ”
Please re-read my post, I said that whites voted for Obama.
“On the other hand, so many black people who had never even voted in their life made it out to the voting poles to vote for him this year without even knowing what he stood for, but simply because he is black (halfway anyway). I see that as racist. Racism comes from both ends, and will only end when you allow it to”
This statement provides a hint to the problem between whites and black relation… it’s called perspective.
So you voted for Obama because you thought he was the qualified candidate. But for some reason, you deduce that there are black people who voted for him just because he’s black, ok. I think we could agree that there are some whites who voted against him because he was black. fine.
No one knows the exact amount of black voters who voted for him because he was black and no one knows the exact amount of whites who voted against him because he was black.
But you and the media make reference to the notion that blacks voted for him because he was black and not because he was the qualified candidate. I guess the notion of a person inspiring others to vote for him do not apply to the majority of blacks.
Remember, Hillary Clinton had the majority of Blacks votes in the beginning of the primaries.
And when asked about that, he said that, Obama said that he has not given them any reason to support him, and he’ll work on that. This is not verbatum statement from Obama, but you get his point.
February 24th, 2009 at 6:51 pm
@ 10 You’re ignorant if that’s your viewpoint on race relations in America…for one, whites fighting for civil rights and what not have never been said to be false…however the fact they were the ones that took our rights aways should not be ignored either and that is the main issue this illustration is presenting.
@22 you’re even more ignorant because you fail to see that not all blacks who wanted that McDonald’s job could get it…you fail to see that most of the people who got that McDonald’s job were also at a disadvantage because that money was instanteneously spent on helping out their family. The white person more than likely got a better job than at a McDonald’s…and even if they worked at McDonald’s they were able to use their money for their own needs and not on the family because more likely than not the his family was well off more than the black McDonald’s worker’s…thanks to this same illustration so yes this illustration is relevant. Even if the black person had a job better than McDonald’s, in the corporate world he’d still be at a disadvantage because most corporations are not colorblind.
Civil rights have gon a long way, as evidenced by our current president…at the same time you still have incidents and videos of black people being shot while handcuffed, black girls being punched in the face while handcuffed and whatnot…how many of these incidents do you see taking place with white people? Like none so yes this illustration is necessary.
February 24th, 2009 at 6:55 pm
@25
My point is that too much credit is given for things you are suppose to do.
Like Chris Rock said, a man requesting props for not going to jail is dumb, because that’s what you’re suppose to do.
A father asking for props because he takes care of his kids is dumb because that’s what you’re suppose to do.
whites voting for the qualified candidate, who happens to be black, is dumb because that’s what you’re suppose to do.
Like I said earlier, my man Flavor Flav would not be president, though he’s black.
February 24th, 2009 at 6:58 pm
error: I meant to say given whites props voting for the qualified candidate, who happens to be black, is dumb because that’s what you’re suppose to do.
February 24th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
@28
If that was the case Isiah, why was there loads of hype about him being the first black president? Your examples can’t be applied in the real world. I wish it could because then racism wouldn’t exist.
“whites voting for the qualified candidate, who happens to be black, is dumb because that’s what you’re suppose to do.”
Your post proves by point.
If whites are “supposed” to vote for a qualified candidate, regardless of race, then they are therefore not racist and whether they intentionally mean to give a black man a hand up or not, the fact still remains they are. Which disproves the illustration.
If Obama was just another qualified candiate, then none of us or any rappers would give a shit, because its just another politician.
But Obama ain’t just politician, he’s the FIRST BLACK QUALIFIED CANDIDATE.
In the perfect world, race wouldn’t matter. But we all know it does.
I said about 70% of African-Americans voted for Obama because he was black.
Why?
Because it’s a huge step forward for all black people worldwide. It’s a historical moment.
I hope ya get my point. The fact white people voted for him, shows they don’t care about race. Props or no props.
February 24th, 2009 at 7:34 pm
@29
There not “supposed” to though, if they’re racist like this illustration suggests.
They’re not “supposed” to, if they don’t want to give the black man a lift up onto the ledge, like the illustration suggests.
February 24th, 2009 at 8:31 pm
i think this cartoons missing a frame… the part where the oppressed black mail, who after all those years of hard work is able to just jump right up on to the top.
February 24th, 2009 at 8:33 pm
Fck you if you don’t get it… Sh!ts real and accurate and if you can’t understand you’re either here to trick folks or you’re jus a f’n prick!
February 24th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
i would like to have and frame that photo and put it on my bathroom wall so i can look at it every morning b4 i head off to work. thats thug motivation for dat ass
February 25th, 2009 at 1:15 am
And thats why this world will continue with racism. I honestly see people who are willing to not partake in racism as a sign of maturity and something people who like to hate, are lacking. People who aren’t willing to take steps forward and only want to bask in the hardships of the past, despite the steps forward we’ve taken, will be part of the reason for racism always existing.
#27Likeabite: your generalizations are too broad. Ive seen plenty of white women and men abused by police who are white as well. Why must everything be a racial issue? And maybe the man who punched the black woman in the face WAS racist but does that generalize the whole population? Not really, because it doesnt generalize me..
Isiah: I read your post, several times. What I take from it is that you’re saying that white people who voted for Obama because he was the most qualified person for the job, and NOT simply because he was black, makes them racist. And if so, that’s a completely asinine statement to make. Not asking for props for voting for Obama on my end by the way, I simply did what I felt was right.
You said I deduce people who voted for Obama soley because he was black, and that would be correct. That’s not a good reason to vote someone into office. Although it’s completely acceptable to be proud of voting for him because he is a black man, (why can’t I call him white by the way? His mother was a white woman, so it shouldn’t be a black/white issue with him.) your sole reason for voting for this man should not be according to the color of his skin.
You also mentioned you think I believe black people voted for Obama because he is black as well and not because he was the qualified candidate. This is true. I am generalizing the people who have actually TOLD me this was the reason they voted for him. Not because of what I hear through the grapevine.
As a white individual, I believe every black person should feel they have the same opportunity for advancement and equality in this country/world as anyone. I, myself am not racist, but I find it hard when I hear comments like some of the ones I’ve heard. But then I think “If I hate them, that only makes me as good as they are and that’s taking a step backward”. And that’s what what keeps me the way I am. To all of the people who think we are all just racist crackers: Do you want people like me to remain colorblind, or is hate what you prefer?
