Is College A Rip Off?
It seems like you at least need a four year degree to have a shot at a job. It may not be worth it to go away to a $30k a year college if your not doing a major that will be your career. I think people need to realize just getting a degree isn’t enough, you have to network, do internships and get on your grind. Also people need to realize some degrees are pretty much worthless in the real world. Honestly I have never used my four year degree, but it may come in handy in the future.
Edit: I have a CIS(Computer Information Systems) degree.

For the most part it is cause we don’t own businesses therefore we aren’t the one’s hiring people! 2 yr community college and a dedicated 2 yrs towards your major could save you a few dollars and the networkin is IMPERATIVE! But @ the end of the day whole owns the majority of businesses and why would they hire you!?! College degree or not…

i dont think its a ripoff, its important social wise and growing up away from home. i’ve always heard or experienced from women they was usually on smash until they got away to college they learned who they were, for some it turns out they were whores. that degree matters on that paycheck and thats enough of a reason for most to go and get it

*sighs* its a scam because your donkies. at the end of the day you dumb over grown bitch life isnt as easy as going to college and coming out and getting that great job. i never thought of it that way i knew whatever i wanted to do i had to hustle still wtf do you take this shit for? with the world becoming so technological my feild makes the most sense to me. everything around me requires a program your car, fridge, everything. why the fuck would i splurg 30k a year to be a fuckin meteorologist? can you imagine how incredible hard it would be to market myself when job employment is down? at the end of the day you still have to use your brain college fees cant buy you that. their using education as a path to success rather than a tool.

Well I cant cosign for ^ but I know going into college you have to actually know your sallary ranges for your major, and your minor it’s up to the person really, if you have a love and a passion, you will most likely be successful. Even though the skeptics throw doubt and fear u shouldn’t let that stop you from doing what you love. Because you can have a high paying job and be miserable in your own S@#t.

January 21st, 2009 at 2:06 am
lol @ the guy in the video ” a degree is a hunting license…
I co-sign that. I just graduated in Dec. and I am currently unemployed. But I do think that I
would do the college thing again even though my situation is not ideal. I learned a lot my four
years in college and the networking I have been able to do is a big plus. Will go ahead and
say that college is not for everyone… I recommend knowing what you want to do as a career.

cant cosign this video.. if a college degree is a rip off then where would your life be with a high school diploma. A BA is a BA no matter where you get it from where people fuck up is going to 30k 40k a year schools getting the same education you can get from a state school. you go to a state school you come out owing maybe 19,000 in loans you go to a private college you come out owing like 80k in loans.
If you pick a major in college you have to be smart when people pick majors in dance with no minor or backup then you fucked up if you cant make it as a dancer. you pick some dumb shit like zoology cause you like animals and you cant get a job doing that, then you stuck doing some other shit. you need to be smart education is the key to getting ahead but dont throw your money away on some dumb ass major and if you go to college get a fucking intership while you there that the best way to get a job once you leave college.

Honestly I believe that going to college is a necessity and can be very useful if you retain the knowledge and skills. The problem with colleges is that many of them are only theoretical, which is important to know, but I believe what is even more important is to have practical studies. You may have acquired all the knowledge possible to succeed, but if you have never applied that in real life, then you won’t know how to properly complete that task. Therefore practical learning is just as important if not more, and internships are an excellent way to apply your theoretical skills, while simultaneously learning and enhacing the proper practical skills. Many students also stay more focused, show more interest, or learn better with practical based learning, and this is the case for me. This is why I chose my college, because it offers courses with 50% theoretical, 50% practical studies, and internships in those studied fields must be completed after each semester. I believe this is the way to go, if not college can often result in just being a piece of paper that will hopefully get you a job.

Whoever says college is a waste needs to specify.
I agree certain majors just dont make money, but there are a lot that serve as a prerequisite to even be considered for a job. I know some people get hype off pursuit of happiness type stories but not everyone can “grind” and make miracles happen.

COLLEGE IS A RIP OFF IN SOME WAYS.. BUT EDUCATION ISNT..college is a rip off in a way that ”THEY” don’t teach the ##HOW TO BE RICH” but they teach you so that you can get a degree and be like the regular worker.. let’s face it, if everyone was their own boss and make money, who would be the workers? who would take care of kids and elderly and so much…
i make more than $600k a year off ”CLEAN” hustle and none of what they taught me in school, i just got smart but IM GLAD IM EDUCATED because IT HELPS ME TO APPROACH CERTAIN SITUATION IN LIFE A BETTER WAY.. and also my granny always said.. U CAN HIDE MONEY FROM A BLACK MAN BY PUTTING IT IN A BOOK..
FIRST READ….FROM NIGGAS TO GODS. PT1

College degrees are overrated. Yes it is good to have that knowledge and it probably gets you a better paycheck, but they are not a necessity to be succesful. If you are on your grind ou can be succesful regardless.

education matters, if you disagree you need education in your life.
Education doesnt always = $$$$$$$
$$$$$$ doesnt always = happiness
January 21st, 2009 at 7:18 am
Frontail I cosign that I believe we are in the same fields. LOL
The problem is people are just going to college for the sake of going to college so that they can brag that they have a degree. Then on top of that the degree is not enough it has to have a fancy name and come from a fancy college WTF. Figure out what you want to do in life. Get an education that you can afford. And Go hard. College is certainly not a rip off you dumb fuck have been bamboozled by fairy tails.
January 21st, 2009 at 7:21 am
I would also like to add. for those who think college should be effortless stay the fuck home if you are going to be paying 30000 a year for college you better come out at the tip top of your fucking class and hit it big . The the people who just try to get by that have it hard in the end. Do not hang your hat where your hands cant reach.

I believe that this segment is one-sided and not universal enough for it apply to apply to everyone. Not to say that the opinions of the people featured on the segment aren’t vaild, but I can’t help but notice that 1.They came from the Midwest, far from big, metropolis cities(such as NYC,LA,Atlanta, etc.) and 2. They are white. The segment doesn’t look at both sides of the arguement and doesn’t factor in expriences and opinions of people from other races.

I went to school out of state and I’m gonna keep it real for everyone who reads this.
1. Going to school out of state was a blessing. Everybody I knew who stayed home is either locked up, got kids, works at the mall, or went to school and never left the city or state. My city isn’t pretty and the opportunities are scarce. GET UP GET OUT AND GET SOMETHING!
2. I went to a school where 75% had bullsh*t majors. You know, communications, english, dance, etc. I majored in mechanical engineering. When I was in school I didn’t have a lot of time to socialize, which I kinda regret. Some shorties even used to think I was wack b/c of my major (don’t ask me how/why, they just did). They was too busy partying. It’s funny though b/c those same people who had those bs majors, after graduation they didn’t have jobs and some still don’t. While I have a steady job with good pay. Some of those girls who used to play me about my major, I still see them when I go out now..except they standing at the bar and me and my peoples are in VIP buying bottles of rosé. BWAHAHAHA!!!!
3. If you’re paying private school prices for school, don’t pick some major like public relations or dance or basketweaving. Get your money’s worth. Please.
4. School is a big game. Gotta learn how to play it.
5. I can’t stress this enough, INTERN INTERN INTERN! It’s the gateway to a lot of opportunities. You NEED one before you graduate. Nobody told me and I didn’t have one so I learned the hard way. Granted, it was easier to find work with my degree than some other majors but don’t sleep, it can be rough.
